Carroll hit for £5k....
Carroll hit for £5k....
Well it looks like those expecting a protracted trial for Andy Carroll this week will have to be left disappointed.

The verdict has been given by Newcastle Crown Court after the striker pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of common assault whilst claiming that his glass “accidentally slipped out of his hand and caused a cut to Mr Cook’s (the prosecution) eyebrow”.

Carroll will now have to pay a £1,000 fine, £1,500 in court costs plus £2,500 in compensation to the victim, but the plus point from the Newcastle perspective is that the trial has been sorted out quickly and the verdict has been given prompt enough to avoid another week of the good name of Newcastle United being dragged through the press again.

No doubt there will be disgruntled voices emanating from Wearside after this decision as I have no doubt that those of the red and white persuasion will have been frothing at the mouth and willing for Carroll to be sent down. Well unfortunately, fizzers, it’s bad news for you! (more…)

This week is a massive week for Carroll and Newcastle.

Court case looms....
Court case looms....
This week signals one of the most important weeks so far for both Newcastle United and Andy Carroll.

Carroll’s court case starts today and although it is only scheduled for three days initially there is a possibility it could roll on for longer than that, with the worst case scenario being that the Geordie hitman will have to spend some time at her majesty’s pleasure.

If that happened it would be disastrous for Newcastle, who are back in action against Arsenal on Wednesday night before hosting the first Tyne/Wear derby of the season next Sunday.

Now obviously I’m not going to make wild assupmtions of what went on and what is going to happen, as quite frankly I wasn’t there and I’m not a lawyer so wouldn’t be qualified to make an assumption, but if he is found guilty I would hope he is subjected to the extent of the law, much like you or I would be. On the flipside, if he is found not-guilty then I would hope that people will stop using it as a stick to beat the lad with.

I am sure that the details will be revealed soon enough, but assault occasioning actual bodily harm can be a very serious offence. Carroll will plead not-guilty to the charges that are laid out in front of him. (more…)

Hughton on Carroll: “With everything, you have to learn by your mistakes”.

Hughton: Support for Carroll.
Hughton: Support for Carroll.
Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton today came out in support of his troubled striker, Andy Carroll, who has been becoming something of a regular in the local courts recently, facing allegations of an attack in a Newcastle night club and most recently, the assault of a former girlfriend. To add to the striker’s problems, he also had his recently purchased Range Rover, purchased in celebration of signing a new contract at the club, vandalised outside the home of teammate, Kevin Nolan, with whom Carroll has to live as part of his current bail conditions. Speaking in an interview, Hughton said of the Carroll crisis:

“With everything, you have to learn by your mistakes. All individuals are different but these are issues we have to deal with.

“The most important thing is to give him the support and the guidance he needs and that he continues to keep doing what he does right on the training pitch and in matches. (more…)

More trouble for Andy Carroll?

Oh dear.....
Oh dear.....
It looks like Andy Carroll and trouble have found themselves thrust together again.

Hot on the heels of the weekend escapades that resulted in Carroll having to face court on Monday morning comes another spot of bother for the Gateshead lad.

It appears that Carroll’s new chrome-plated, all singning, all blinging, Range Rover has been torched whilst parked on the driveway of team-mate, club captain, and current landlord, Kevin Nolan’s family home. Nolan’s garage door was also daubed with graffiti relating to the lanky striker in the process according to the police and fire services who attended the scene, and Nolan’s house is now sporting a 24/7 security presence as a result of these events.

Now I may just be getting paranoid about the whole thing, but trouble seems to be starting to follow bigger lad around somewhat. This latest event comes smack bang inbetween the court case on Monday and his, arguably bigger, court case due to start next Monday. (more…)

Carroll bailed until January.

Yo..... Roomie!
Yo..... Roomie!
More details are beginning to emerge regarding the latest controversy to surround Andy Carroll.

Earlier today it was reported that Carroll would have to appear in front of Tynedale Magistrates Court to answer a charge of assault.

The verdict of the hearing is that Carroll has been bailed, with the rather strange condition that he must stay at captain Kevin Nolan’s house attached to the bail order.

The usual clauses of not being able to contact prosecution witnesses in the meantime will also apply, and Carroll will have to tread carefully for the forseeable future. Unfortunately it means Carroll must face another day in court which is scheduled for the 10th of January.

According to The Sheilds Gazette, Carroll was charged with assaulting an ex-girlfriend in Ponteland some time after 4:30am yesterday morning. I’m not going to guess what was going on, but Carroll needs to learn to stay away from situations like that in my opinion. (more…)
