£20m available for players. Maybe.Press speculation suggests that Alan Pardew will be given £20m to spend on players at Newcastle United in the summer.
If Louise Taylor of the Guardian is to be believed, Alan Pardew will have £20m of the £35m we got for Andy Carroll to spend in the summer. Taylor doesn’t say how she knows that and merely states it as fact, so there may or may not be some truth in it.
Apparently the remaining £15m will go on players’ wages.
As part of the article, Alan Pardew reflects on the sale of Carroll:
“Selling Andy was a watershed moment. You couldn’t tell what would happen. It was a bit like Kenny Dalglish going back to Liverpool – that could have been a disaster but proved the opposite.
“Fortunately we stepped up to the challenge and it’s definitely been good for some of our players. Our fans might be looking at strikers like Shola and Peter in a different light now.” (more…)
They're out to get usAlan Pardew remonstrates against the media for trying to embarrass Newcastle United with Sunday’s live fixture.
Alan Pardew has been having a pop at TV broadcasters over what he sees as an attempt to embarrass the club at the hands of Liverpool after they secured the services of Andy Carroll.
Pardew said:
“You could argue this game was scheduled for live broadcast so that it would be an embarrassment for us, with Andy Carroll playing for Liverpool and us not being safe.
“We are safe, but having said that we are still as eager as ever to play the game.
“There is still a lot to play for in these last four games for us.” (more…)
Sigmund DalglishKenny Dalglish turns to psychiatry to tell Newcastle United fans what they think about Andy Carroll.
Apparently there’s a royal wedding today. When I heard about it I assumed Cheryl Tweedy was getting hitched again but apparently it’s to do with a couple called Kate and Will. Anyway, it seems my invite was lost in the post so I thought I’d write an article on here instead.
Kenny ‘Sourpuss’ Dalglish has been telling us Toon supporters what we think of Andy Carroll ahead of Sunday’s game, so we’d better jolly well listen.
Kenny instructs us thusly:
“They [that’s us] will do whatever they want, but it won’t take away from what he has done for their football club and it won’t take away what the football club meant to Andy.
“It is a compliment really, in a strange way, if you do get abuse because it means you must have been important to them.”
So any boos for Andy Carroll will actually be translated as “we love you” according to Kenny. I wonder from which Internet site Kenny got his degree in psychiatry. (more…)
Resuming the Chris Hughton’s interview with Richard Keys and Andy Grey on ‘Talk Sport’, this final section begins with more memories of Newcastle United, including what Hughton thinks of Colin Calderwood, did he realise how good Cheick Tiote when he signed him, working with Andy Carroll, did he always think that he was going to leave in January and more.
Richard Keys:“Here’s one from a Hibs fan, you’ve partially answered this. ‘Irish’ and Andy would just like to ask Chris what he thinks of Colin Calderwood?”
Chris Hughton:“Colin was very, very good for me, and I think that with all managers that you will speak to it’s so important that you have somebody alongside you not only that you trust and you like, but you know is very good at his job. he had a difficult start at Hibs but I was incredibly confident that what he would do is turn it around, and that’s what he has done. I think for any Hibs supporters that there is certainly bigger and better things from him. He’s not only a very, very good football man but a good person as well.”
Andy Gray:“Anthony asks did Chris realise just how good Cheick Tiote would be when he signed him?”(more…)
Well, whateverAndy Carroll thinks Liverpool is brilliant Then again he’s only been there 5 minutes..
This is short, simple and on topic.
Carrol said:
“It was great to get out there and the result made it even better.
“I was on the bench and itching to get on right from the kick-off really but I’ve started now and can’t wait for the next game.
“When I was running back (after being called for a substitution by Dalglish) all the fans were shouting and screaming and so I got a little bit excited.
“I was over the moon to get on there and get back playing.
“The support was unbelievable for me.
“The fans have been great since I signed and even when I was warming up, they were fantastic.
“It was an incredible atmosphere, definitely one of the best I’ve ever experienced.”
Like I give a sh.. , erm, hoot.
Go easy on me over the imflamatory headline. Just letting off steam.
