Llambias: Foamin' ower Keegan! In the latest salvo of the war of words between Newcastle United’s Managing Director, Derek Llambias, and former player and manager, Kevin Keegan, Llambias has responded to Keegan’s comments on the current regime at St James’s Park. Llambias launched a blistering attack, or, if you will, a ‘llambasting’ of the Mighty Mouse.
He was responding to comments from Keegan in which he suggested that current manager, Alan Pardew, wouldn’t see any of the £30-£35 million raised by the club from the sale of striker, Andy Carroll, to Liverpool.
Speaking in an intererview with the BBC’s “Radio Five Live”, Keegan remarked:
“I saw an interview with Alan Pardew where he said he hoped to get some of the £35m and I thought ‘Alan, you ain’t going to get any of that’.”
In the interview Keegan was referring to, Pardew said:
“The one thing I said to Mike yesterday was, ‘Look, if this boy [Carroll] is going to go, this money has to be reinvested in the team, all of it’, and he has assured me of that.
“For the Newcastle fan, that is the most important message I can give today, that all that money will be used.”
Getting back to Keegan though, on the logic of the Carroll sale, he then added: (more…)
The realities hit homeAlan Pardew appears to accept that Newcastle United are a selling club at the moment and could struggle to hold on to the likes of Cheik Tiote if a good bid came in.
After insisting that Andy Carroll will not be sold and then having subsequently seen that happen anyway, Alan Pardew appears to have accepted the realities of Newcastle United a bit more now.
Speaking about his hopes to hang on to Cheik Tiote if a big bid should come in, he said:
“I am hoping there are no bids, otherwise we will have a problem.
“Tiote is a very important player, very talented and someone we want to be a big part of our future.”
Pardew then goes on to reveal more about the club philosopy as he understands it:
“When I became manager, Ashley and Llambias made me aware that they wanted to get the club on a financial footing, which gives them a chance to build it.(more…)
Do I care what Shearer says?Derek Llambias engages in a war of words with Alan Shearer.
Alan Shearer has been critical of Newcastle United’s sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool, particularly following assurances that he wouldn’t be sold and given that no replacement was made in the transfer window. Shearer said:
“I’m staggered just like the rest of Newcastle fans. I am surprised at how quickly it came along and it’s an astonishing amount for a young guy with huge potential.
“It’s all right selling your best player, but not getting anyone in to replace him is staggering.
“People are saying that Liverpool have sold Torres, but they have got two guys in for over £50million to replace him. I just hope Newcastle invest some of the £35million in new players at the end of the season.
“I am disappointed as he is Newcastle’s best player and their best hope of being successful this season and getting a Europe League place.
“They would have just been happy to avoid relegation at the start of the season but, mainly because of him, they had a chance of a Europa spot.” (more…)
Pardew told Ashley to reinvestAllegedly, Alan Pardew will get all the money made from the Andy Carroll sale to spend on rebuilding the team in the summer
I’ve had enough of the whole Andy Carroll debacle now to be honest. If truth be told, I have no idea whether he was pushed or not, whether Ashley had always planned to sell him or not, or – when Pardew insisted that Carroll was not for sale – whether he was lying or not.
Either way, he’s gone to Liverpool and we simply have to get on with things.
The good news is that, according to Pardew, Ashley isn’t planning a £35m casino blow out but will reinvest the lot of it in the team during the summer. Pardew said:
“One thing I said to Mike (Ashley) on Monday is that if this boy (Carroll) is going to go, this money has to be reinvested – all of it.
“He assured me of that, and so for the Newcastle fans that is the most important message I can give to them. All that money will be used.
“Could it have been used on Monday? We made a couple of bids late in the night but were getting extortionate figures thrown at us – it was ridiculous.(more…)
HooliganNewcastle United have sold Andy Carroll to Liverpool but questions remain as to exactly what happened.
So what do we actually know about the Andy Carroll situation?
We know that Alan Pardew repeatedly said that Carroll was not for sale. We also know that Mike Ashley turned down at least two offers from Liverpool for the striker and possibly offers from Spurs too.
We know that, finally, Andy Carroll handed in a transfer request, reported thusly on the Newcastle United site:
A transfer request from striker Andy Carroll has been accepted by Newcastle United.
The 22-year-old England international has this afternoon handed in a transfer request, which has reluctantly been accepted by the club, and Carroll is currently in talks with Liverpool over a move to Anfield.(more…)
