A big welcome to Blackburn Rovers!Newcastle welcome Blackburn Rovers and their travelling support to St James’ Park for this evenings 7:45pm kick-off.
I dare say that the same warm welcome won’t be extended to Blackburn’s current boss, Sam Allardyce, who returns to his former employers for the first time since Mike Ashley gave him the boot.
Newcastle are in a fine run of form at the moment and will be looking to build on three consecutive wins by grabbing all the points tonight as they set about ensuring that the club remains safe and benefits from another season of Premier League football next year. In contrast, Blackburn have been in poor form having not won a game in the month of October, but they managed to stop the rot last weekend when they beat Wigan in a 2-1 victory at Ewood Park. (more…)
Hughton will need to gets his troops mobilized again.Life is good for Newcastle fans right now. Winning our last three games on the bounce has ensured that we have been walking around with a spring in our step.
Newcastle must ensure that we are doing much the same tomorrow!
You see, I’ve been waiting for the inevitable kick in the teeth to come along, but it hasn’t. We won away at West Ham, so I expected us to slip up against Sunderland. We beat Sunderland, convincingly, so I was expecting us to get a hammering at Arsenal. We won that, and, well you get the point.
Newcastle now begin a run of two ‘winnable’ games, starting tonight when Sam Allardyce brings Blackburn to St James’ Park, followed by Fulham coming to town on Saturday, and the first match of those two is ideally placed to give us Newcastle fans a massive kick in the teeth. (more…)
Allardyce - Party pooper?Newcastle host Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night where they will be looking to improve on a run of form that has seen them win the last three games.
Wins away at West Ham and Arsenal sandwiched a 5-1 smashing of local rivals Sunderland to ensure that Newcastle go into this match sitting in a lofty fifth position in the Premier League table.
Of course, this match will also witness the return Sam Allardyce to St James’ Park, and he will be wanting to play the pantomime villain role and steer Blackburn to a fifth consecutive victory at the home of his old employers. I’m not sure, but I’m hearing unconfirmed reports that the Blackburn travelling contingent will be using three coaches to travel up from Lancashire. One for the away support, one for the players, and another, larger, coach for Big Sam’s ego. (more…)
Peter on his bike?Peter Lovenkrands has admitted that he may be forced to leave Newcastle in order to save his international career.
Lovenkrands hasn’t really had a look in this season and has only featured five times for the Newcastle first-team, with three of those appearances coming in the Carling Cup.
This has left the 30-year old forward having to admit that he could be forced to move back to Denmark to play his football as he looks to continue his international career. After all, it’s hard to get picked for your country if you aren’t playing for your club, or at leas it should be anyway. Whilst I personally would be sad see the Dane leave, I can understand his reasons for wanting to do so.
Lovenkrands was influential in last seasons promotion charge and bagged himself 16-goals as Newcastle romped away with The Championship. His pace and movement troubled defences last season, but my only issue with him is the fact that if he isn’t scoring then he isn’t doing much else and tends to disappear from matches. (more…)
Carroll is going nowhere!Speculation circulated over the weekend regarding the future of Andy Carroll amid reported interest that Chelsea were preparing a bid in the region of £20 million for the Gateshead-born striker.
With no quotes or sources to back it up, I pretty much disregarded as utter rubbish, but now Chris Hughton has had his say and put the rumour to bed for good.
Carroll’s stock on the football pitch is rising rapidly and it is expected that he will get a call-up to the next England squad when it is announced later on in the week. Whether it is too early or not for the player is a separate issue really, all he can do is try his best, but it does mean that his star will be burning that little bit brighter, which perhaps inevitably will draw some interest from some of the ‘big-boys’.
“He’s not for sale and we don’t worry about that,” Hughton told The Guardian. (more…)
