Home discomforts? Newcastle 0-0 Fulham.

Another impressive performance form Carroll.
Another impressive performance form Carroll.
Newcastle huffed and puffed their way to draw against Fulham this afternoon in a match that lacked that little bit of quality from both sides.

Both Newcastle and Fulham had chances to break the deadlock, but it wasn’t to be and Newcastle will have to settle for a point from the match which means we slip down to 7th in the table.

Chris Hughton made two enforced changes to the team, with Danny Guthrie coming in for the suspended Joey Barton, and Peter Lovenkrands partnering Andy Carroll up front due to the absence of Shola Ameobi, but neither player did enough to break down a stubborn and well organised Fulham side. On this evidence it is clear to see why Fulham have only lost three games so far this season.

Newcastle started off bright enough but were unable to capitalise during those early exchanges and Fulham clawed their way back into the game. (more…)

Newcastle v Fulham – Match banter!

No cottaging today please!
No cottaging today please!
Newcastle face Fulham this afternoon where they will be looking to bounce back from yet another home defeat.

Our home form is indeed worrying, and it is something that will need addressing sooner rather than later, much like Fulham’s away form, which in itself should have Newcastle worried.

You see, Fulham have not won an away game in the last 24 attempts, and it really wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was written in the stars for that run to end today. As I said in my match preview, whenever a team comes up against us carrying a run of form like Fulham are away from home, you can almost bet your bottom dollar that it is Newcastle that ends that run! Will Capello give Carroll the nod?

Psst... Carroll. He wants you!
Psst... Carroll. He wants you!
The man of the moment, for many reasons, seems to be Andy Carroll. For every negative headline that has circulated around the Gateshead lad, a positive one has closely followed.

And things could get even more positive for the seven-goal hitman later on today when the England squad for the friendly match against France is announced, as it is widely believed that Carroll will be called up to the senior squad for the first time in his fledgling career.

It’s been a meteoric rise to fame for the local lad as only twelve months ago he was struggling to find the net, and was looking rather ungainly in the process. The all-round improvement in his game since last Christmas has been truly staggering to be honest.

Carroll has been an absolute beast for us on the field so far this season and his contributions, both offensively and defensively, have been pretty staggering, and he is now our joint top-scorer to boot! (more…)

Check us out tomorrow!
Check us out tomorrow!
For those of you that are going to the match tomorrow, it may not be that useful for you to know this.

But for those who won’t be at St James’s Park tomorrow, and have access to radio, or the internet so you can listen online, or to Sky TV or any other number of ways of picking up a radio signal, then you could be in for a bit of a bonus tomorrow afternoon.

Nufcblog.org has been approached by Absolute Radio to form a part of their coverage of the Newcastle United v Fulham match tomorrow, and with a little bit of gentle persuasion, I got forced into representing us by Workyticket. He can be a mean gadgie when he wants to be! I hope he knows that I am the shy and retiring type! (more…)

Newcastle v Fulham – Match preview.

Coming home Newcastle.
Coming home Newcastle.
Newcastle will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Fulham to St James’ Park.

I would like to say that Newcastle will be looking for some more home comforts, but that hasn’t been the case this season and we appear to be, oddly for Newcastle, an away side.

That away form can’t go on forever though and Newcastle need to start picking up points at home, starting against Fulham, who haven’t won an away fixture in the Premier League for 24 matches now. That is an alarming stat, as whenever one of those kind of stats pops up it nearly always means that Newcastle will duly oblige and end that disappointing run for the opposition.

Joey ‘the one punch machine gun’ Barton starts his three-match ban and will miss the match. Shola Ameobi will face a late fitness test on a hamstring injury that he picked up against Blackburn, although given his past injury history I would be tempted to leave him out altogether, whilst James Perch and Leon Best are rated as doubtful for the match. Steve Harper, Dan Gosling and Hatem Ben Arfa are all still out with long-term injuries. (more…)
