Newcastle United Change Kit 2011-2012

June 21st, 2011 | 49 Comments |

For medical reasons, Michael Richardson is not allowed to wear this jersey.
The future is bright.
The baffling delay regarding our change kit has finally been ended today with this leaked photo of a particularly bright kit, likely inspired by the skill and ability of Toon starlet Michael Richardson.

I don’t think this comes as a surprise as we all heard the rumours of it being orange and leave it to the ingenuity of Puma to use the exact same design for the change and third kit as well as the majority of the teams they have ever provided football kits for.

I’d imagine the shorts and socks will follow the same style as the home and third kit albeit in a delightful orange colour.

Overall I won’t say it’s that bad. It doesn’t look half as offensive as I initially thought it would have been although I probably wouldn’t like to be enjoying a nice picnic with my girlfriend in Leazes park while wearing this. I’m almost positive I’ll be pollinated by an evil horde of killer Geordie bees. (Unfortunately the council don’t believe me when I complain about them.)

The official announcement can’t be too far off as this photo was allegedly taken in Chester Le Street at no other than Sports Direct which seems like a bit of a blunder on Mike Ashley’s Durham store and no doubt somebody with the misfortune to work there will probably lose all working privileges that come with working at Sports Direct. I don’t know what they might be but if somebody can confirm I will be appreciative. (more…)

Joey Barton: “I love this club and everyone knows that.”

June 15th, 2011 | 60 Comments |

Wants the gold logo to mean something more than a colour.
Joey Barton wants to bring silverware to NUFC.
Danny Simpson once talked Joey Barton into joining Twitter, a place to express your daily life in 140 characters or less and has lived up to his outspoken personality in such a public domain, speaking about his frustrations at Newcastle with the hierarchy and, of course, the wonderful fans.

Today after talks of Kevin Nolan being at West Ham for a medical, Joey Barton responded in typical Joey Barton style, mentioning their friendship and stating in (hopefully) tongue and cheek fashion that he was to be sold along with José Enrique and Jonas Gutierrez. Of course, Enrique was punished for stating he would not make the team due to an injury so if there’s truth to what he said, he could end up being in big trouble with the club.

Talking to Sky Sports earlier, Joey reiterated his passion for the club and his desire to stay:

“I love the football club, without a shadow of a doubt, and I think everyone knows that, I have a great working relationship with the manager and a lot of the other players, obviously the other senior players who have been through the ups and downs – the likes of myself, Kevin Nolan, Stevie Harper and Smudger.” (more…)

Newcastle United in the transfer market

June 15th, 2011 | 28 Comments |

Mike Ashley's piggy bank.
Not only does it save money, but it's also French!
Mike Ashley bought Newcastle United to much fanfare in 2007 via St. James Holdings. Opting against doing the sensible thing and lodging a formal bid, he just went out and bought the stocks, forcing the then hospitalised Freddy Shepherd into advising shareholders to sell, sell, sell!

Thus came an end to Shepherd’s reign of terror over our club. He inherited a wonderful thing from Sir John Hall and promptly ran it, head first, into the ground. That was to end with our new chairman. A young man, famed throughout the great maze of Eldon Square for his cheap sportswear and throughout the business world as being reckless in his deals.

It was all roses for a while as Mike Ashley enjoyed a [many] pint [pints] with the fans in the Strawberry and even snubbed the directors box in favour of the Leazes End. Had Freddy Shepherd had done that, he’d have been hog tied, placed on a spit and spun over an open flame in the centre circle with his, rather ample, meat donated to third world areas of our great Earth such as Sunderland and Liverpool.

Kevin Nolan off to West Ham?

June 15th, 2011 | 121 Comments |

Hammers want this chicken.
Has the funky chicken danced his last dance for us?
Kevin Nolan has done a lot for this club since arriving here in January 2009 and, with Chris Hughton, managed to build the best team spirit this club has seen since the days of Sir Bobby but it looks as though this transfer window is to be the end of his captaincy.

Sky Sports, Twitter and countless other websites are reporting that Kevin Nolan is currently in London having a medical for the Hammers and that is dire, dire news if true. My usual optimism has been completely depleted as I’ve watched the betting odds being slashed over the past hour to a mind boggling 1/4 at my last check. Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, José Enrique – where is it going to end? Jonas, Coloccini – how many other first team players can we sell?

The irony is that Pardew has been talking about Champions League football and that is where our ambitions should lie. His reasoning for European competition? Keeping our best players.

Howay Cabaye – New signing gives his first interview to NUFC

June 11th, 2011 | 48 Comments |

Cabaye demonstrated his abilities and ruined the turf.
Wor Cabaye
Yesterday Newcastle marked their first foray into the transfer martket with Frenchman Yohan Cabaye – a fully fledged French international who, in his spare time, completely strips football pitches of grass for no other reason than “because I can”. Even if he doesn’t work out, he’ll be keeping the groundsmen busy with that kind of superhero-esque power.

Today, the new signing gave his first interview to nufcTV and, as you might expect, answered questions put forth to him by an interviewer. Being the kind and generous soul that I am, I decided to transcribe all 5 minutes of it for you all! (Also in the event you, y’know, don’t have nufcTV or something.)

Anthony Marshall: Yohan, welcome to Newcastle. Are you pleased to be here?

Yohan Cabaye: Yes, I am very happy, I am really happy. We have just seen the facilities and the magnificent stadium. The people here are very welcoming, so it’s really great to be here.

AM: What were your first impressions of Newcastle and St. James Park?
