Newcastle United Change Kit 2011-2012

For medical reasons, Michael Richardson is not allowed to wear this jersey.
The future is bright.
The baffling delay regarding our change kit has finally been ended today with this leaked photo of a particularly bright kit, likely inspired by the skill and ability of Toon starlet Michael Richardson.

I don’t think this comes as a surprise as we all heard the rumours of it being orange and leave it to the ingenuity of Puma to use the exact same design for the change and third kit as well as the majority of the teams they have ever provided football kits for.

I’d imagine the shorts and socks will follow the same style as the home and third kit albeit in a delightful orange colour.

Overall I won’t say it’s that bad. It doesn’t look half as offensive as I initially thought it would have been although I probably wouldn’t like to be enjoying a nice picnic with my girlfriend in Leazes park while wearing this. I’m almost positive I’ll be pollinated by an evil horde of killer Geordie bees. (Unfortunately the council don’t believe me when I complain about them.)

The official announcement can’t be too far off as this photo was allegedly taken in Chester Le Street at no other than Sports Direct which seems like a bit of a blunder on Mike Ashley’s Durham store and no doubt somebody with the misfortune to work there will probably lose all working privileges that come with working at Sports Direct. I don’t know what they might be but if somebody can confirm I will be appreciative.

Joking aside, it’s not that bad. I really was expecting to see something akin to the yellow atrocity we wore during our stint in the Championship but after that you could throw anything out and I would probably prefer it over that vile curdled lemon mixed with vomit and urine design. A parting blow from Adidas to Mike Ashley, perhaps?

This will also be the last shirt of Puma’s current contract, with the club having only signed an initial 2 year deal with the manufacturer. I expect there will be an extension on that although I wouldn’t feel particularly bad if we were to go with a new provider as Puma have left me particularly underwhelmed with our past kits with a noticeable exception to our current home get up.

    Worse than the daffodill kit by a country mile.
    Puma kits are so cheaply made the fabric and badges on the new one are plop just like the puma kits last season.
    Got 4 adidas kits and they are still mint…best was the skyblue away top with dark trim down the sides proper sleek looking shirt.

  7. dissapointing shirts for this upcoming season. puma havent done a very good job in my opinion although the home shirts feels much better quality than the shirt from the season just gone, by the way just seen that abidal has rejected a new contract offer from barcelona maybe enrique could get that move to barcelona after all.

  9. Having seen the top on Saturday in Chester Le Street it’s actually quite nice but the material is appalling again. So for the 2nd straight season I will not be buying a strip top as Puma have proved to be the worst kit supplier we have ever had !!

    The new puma kits are awful, cheap sticker badges. The last top I got was the last one we had in the premier league before we got relegated and looking at it now, it actually looks like time and effort was put into it, it looks smart. These puma kits are typical, sports direct style w**k.

    And they want 50 quid for them! F**k right off!

    A bland color, lacking any sense of either design or fashion.
    It’s easy to see why Puma are not leaders when it comes to Sports kits.
    Any teenage fashion student could do a better job, just where Puma gets it’s designers from, unbelievable really.

    Have to disagree with you there. The badges have held up quite well, although I will admit the badge on my shorts seems to have taken a bit of a crinkled turn regardless of how often I iron it.

    @chuck: I didn’t say “it isn’t bad” I said “it isn’t that bad”. Given that I was expecting Blackpool on steroids, it can’t get much worse than that.

    Whatever happened to our old yellow and green change kits of the 70s and late 80s? I always had a soft spot for them.

    Pretty sure it was a 2 year deal but I can’t quite remember and Google isn’t being friendly today.

    However, there’s more money in selling three versions than one or two and thats what it’s about init ?
    Remember the Freddy Shepheard conversation concerning Geordie lassas and how much profit there was in selling shirts.

  16. I bought the 1st puma home shirt for our little lad it went back as the fabric bobbled after 1 wash,exhanged it for the blue away top and same happened again.
    My adidas toon shirts look mint still.

  17. Chuck your anger astounds. I’d hardly call bright orange bland. Bland would be a beige strip with grey stripes or something.

    Anyway, everyone knows the best home strip we’ve ever had was the late 90’s “grandad collar” one with the newkie brown label on it. It’s a quality garment.
    The best away strip we’ve ever had was the 80’s silver one as worn by Gazza and co.

  18. Forgot to say, I wonder if we would ever get a Slazenger strip? I’m surprised Ashley hasn’t gone down that route seeing as he owns the brand.

  20. Best one was the late 1990’s, all my Newcastle shirts from then with ntl, golden northen rock, blue norther rock etc all look much better than the recent efforts.

    The badges are stitched for a start, I even have that 97-98 one with the awful shield on the back!

    The worst away kit is also from that year though, the blue one with a green and orange stripe down the side, we wore that when leeds smashed us 4-1 at elland road, which began are decent when Dalglish was in charge.

    Im not a fan of the shield on the back of the shirt.

    Chelsea used to design there ‘keeper tops with loud colours, like that first link you posted. It’s a psychological thing, to try and make the ‘keeper look bigger for one-on-ones etc.

    Aye but we had Pav between the sticks – he could have been wearing a bikini and still would have been amazing. Plus we had a certain Mr. Hislop backing him up.

    No Micky, more of a case of disgust than anger and if you describe whats pictured as bright orange, then it’s time you hit Spec-Savers.
    Its in fact a quite dull oranglike color and the actual design lacks any imagination, sorry !

  34. Well just read that Chris. Hughton has got the Birmingham managers job, bit of a poison pill i reccon, but it’s a gig and will be interesting to see how he makes out.
    A much tougher job than the one he had here, with less talent and everyone wanting your best players.
    And apparntly the owner is a bit of a jerk.
    Well i for one wish him nothing but the best, a decent guy and an appropriate choice for the job IMO.

  37. Yup I wish CH Well,I think it will be a tuff ask getting Blues promoted with the players they have got or who they will attract-I still think CH had it easy with our squad in the championship but I am not knocking him.

    I think Nolan is going to run the roost in next years championship……Funky Chicken Styleeee :lol:

  39. Chuck I am easily astounded, it’s my sheltered upbringing.
    I was brought up on a desert island with only a library of old books to read and a decent gym.
    This made me physically perfect and a brain to match.
    However, I am very uneducated in “the ways of the world”. It wasn’t until I went to America and met up with my older brother that I started to come out of my shell. I thought you could learn to drive by looking at the owners manual for a car. Ha ha.
    I still get excited whenever I see a neon sign or a “Tee Vee” It’s like watching a moving picture book!
    My small and fat brother says we are twins, but I can’t see the resemblence myself. :)

    For the record: I was talking about the second link with the image of the Tyne skyline in the background. Remember wanting one with Shaka’s name on the back but instead got the home shirt.

  49. Shirt looks good. Everyone saying orange isn’t a good colour probably has some issues about wearing anything slightly bright in public. It sh*ts all over the apricot sponge deck chair kit, think it looks pretty good. I’ll be getting it, and some superglue to stick the badges back on when they fall off after a couple of months!
