Vurnon Anita: Personal terms still to be thrashed out.
Following on from my previous story, Ajax midfielder, Vurnon Anita, has confirmed that Ajax and Newcastle United have come to an agreement over a fee, but added that he would stay at his current club if good personal terms couldn’t be agreed.

Speaking in a post match interview after Ajax’s first game of the Eredivisie season (against AZ Alkmaar), Anita didn’t confirm if the fee was the alleged €8 million (around £6.3 million) figure being speculated by some quarters of the media, but he did confirm that he is yet to make contact with the Magpies to discuss personal terms, saying:

“Ajax and Newcastle have reached an agreement, but I have not spoken to Newcastle yet.”

He also sounded a note of caution though, adding:

“The complete picture must be good. If talks do not go well, I will stay at Ajax. But I think everything will be alright.”

To get things in context, this comes in the wake of Ajax making an improved contract offer to Anita, which led to the player’s representatives (which should be Mino Raiola if it is true that he has recently changed from Harry Luloffs) making a counter offer which the Amsterdam club turned down. So, it looks like Anita and Luloffs are looking to Mike Ashley to make a bumper offer in terms of wages, bonuses, commissions and such (Good luck with that one, Vurnon!). But anyway, in conclusion, here’s what the little pocket battleship had to say about that:

“We submitted a counter proposal and Ajax didn’t accept it. So we look elsewhere. Leaving Ajax will be strange. I’ve played here for 13 years. I’ve enjoyed some good times and learned a lot. I am grateful to Ajax. It’s a pity I have to leave but football is like that sometimes.”

So once again, this is indeed more encouraging news, however the fat lass isn’t quite warbling yet, so let’s wait and see and negotiations go between Anita’s representatives and old tightwad!

  2. My above formation, with Anita as squad DM or wing back…

Gives us a decent looking rotation of quailty, but really hope there’s talk soon of another striker (maybe Jordan Rhodes)..

  3. Hmmm so willing to allegedly front £6.3 mil for Anita but not for Debuchy anyone else slightly confused at the almighty fat ones thinking?

  4. Toonlife, with the emphasis very much on “allegedly.” Though Anita has obviously said that Newcastle and Ajax have agreed a price, there’s been nothing substantial whatsoever to back up the amount of the fee as yet.

What doesn’t sound right to me is that while Debuchy is undoubtedly worth even more than what Lille are asking for him, never mind what Ashley has bid, on the other hand, €8 million is actually not far from a realistic estimation of Anita’s worth at the moment. For Ashley to agree to pay something approching what a player is really worth just doesn’t sound right at all! :-) Having written that though, I’ve watched Anita properly in full Eredivisie games and he is indeed an excellent up and coming player who’s value is rising rapidly, and will continue to do so to the point where he’ll soon be worth far more.

Pardew himself said that he had to constantly assure the the slimmer of the year that he actually wasn’t paying too much for Cisse at £7.5 million (it was £7.5 million rising to £9 million, though they always say £9-10 million).

  5. does anyone know what his best foot is?

maybe we have thrown in the towel for debuchy because he might well fit into a defensive wingback role.

at the end of the day a player can play anywhere he is suitable for, doesnt matter if he is classed as a defender or midfielder.

he obviously has a defensive mind so why not take the chance and put him at right wingback?

“does anyone know what his best foot is?”

Mostly right from what I’ve seen, Stephen. However I believe that he can play as a left back at a push.

  7. Worky i think it would be very apt if you were to prepare a decent obituary to our good man that passed away today.

he was a prominent talking point over the last few months and sadly we have lost a great Northumbrian and Geordie.

i live only 1 mile from where he was brought up, although born in alnwick (the only infirmary in Northumberland at the time) he lived most of his life in Lynemouth. his father was a miner in the Big E.

  8. Worky,

If Ba’s insisting on sharing the action in a front 2’s up, then Benny’s got learn the wing play..

..i think he should develop his crossing/delivery this season, sharing the joy.

Funnily enough I was just thinking about that Stephen, but to be honest I just despair sometimes. All people seem to want is “Newcastle preparing daring swoop for Johnny Foreigner” type stories, but the fact that someone else has now actually mentioned it has given heart so thanks Stephen. I think I’ll be off to bed at something actually approaching a reasonable time tonight (ie any minute now).

    “Worky,

I’m not saying that Benny can’t play there, Milner, if you recall, I wrote in disgreement with our Silver Supremo when he said that Benny wasn’t a winger. But if Pardew’s going to play 4-4-2 under all circumstances just to keep Ba happy so he can score more goals personally (and for no other reason) that would just be absurd.

I bet that has left the fans of Atromitos puzzled.

  13. ‘….an excellent up and coming player who’s value is rising rapidly..’

Worky, that sums it up really. Could be the difference between the two players. One is established at his peak whose value will decline whilst the other has yet to reach his full potential and value.

  15. No but I am prone to speaking double dutch now and then :)

Kamar’s right wor Vurnon has a sell on value whereas Fatman thinks Debuchy, now he’s 27, has reached his peak in terms of resale potential.

And while on the subject of transfer inactivity, I never like to say I told you so but……………

“Some of United’s key senior figures have held a transfer strategy meeting in a bid to finally make a significant breakthrough in the market, and the long chase could well be concluded this week.

The Chronicle understands that senior United stars have also approached Toon chiefs for some clarity over why the squad hasn’t been bolstered so far this summer.

It is believed that the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse were mystified as to why Newcastle have been so far unable to land France international right-back Mathieu Debuchy of Lille, or Holland and Ajax midfielder Anita”

Senior squad players hmmmmm now why does that ring a bell ??? Remembering 2003, when we failed to strengthen and lost to Partizan in a CL qualifier, let’s not make the same mistakes again :(

  16. mini crisis on our hands??, when players start voicing concern over new faces not good thing to see. hopefully Newcastle dont shoot themselves in the foot by not replacing and strengthening areas which we need and breaking the harmony of the team.

  17. Anyone notice a certain Mr G van der Wiel scored for Ajax yesterday ? Looks like he’s off to Chelski though.

I’ve just been reading him Andy, won’t get out of bed for a club which isn’t in the Champions League.

Just reading about what Anita wants reassurances on in the Silver Supremo summit he is seeking. Wish I could speak cloggy, it was far easier for me when Carr was chasing Frogs.

Strangely enough Ajax are in the group stages of the CL this season (may not get past that though) so both v d W and Anita could play Champions League if they stayed put ! Anita seems to be happy to lose out as Cabaye did last year. Dunno if he’s mates with TK ?
