QPR v Newcastle United, September 2011.
Loftus Road beckons
Venue: Loftus Road, London
Date: Monday, Sept 12th, 2011
Kick-off: 8:00pm
Referee: Phil Dowd

Hello, good evening and welcome to NUFC Blog’s regular “match banter” feature, which this time sees Newcastle United facing West London club, Queen’s Park Rangers over at their place.

Of course, much of the pre-match gossip has centred around this being a reunion with old friend, Joey Barton, who was ejected from the club after creating something of a storm of his tweets on a certain microblogging site. Personally though, I think that it has been done to death now and I won’t dwell on it here. Suffice to say, we all know what he is capable of and he will be a big threat, along with others in a club which has been investing under it’s new owner, Tony Fernandes.

However, if you would like some more in depth reading in the run up to the game, please check out my esteemed colleague, Jimbob’s match preview if you haven’t already.

As usual, I shall endeavour to put up the teamsheets when they become available, and if you have any good links to the match, please feel free to post them!

Howay the Lads!

  1. Don’t know why, but I’m concerned we could get turned over tonight. Tarabat is due a good game, Barton adds steel and SWP running at “backing away” Danny Simmo are the main points.

Howay these are the games we need to at least nick a point from to finish mid tableish

  2. No what you mean mick however it doesn’t always work out when you throw in to many new players in the same game, fingers crossed. If Tiote has a good game we are in with a good chance and maybe Barton may just get a bit frusrated. HTL

    “Links for tonight any1 plz?”

I’ll get on to it eventually Dan if no-one else does, but I’ll have to get the teamsheets up soon!

  4. Santon on bench Shola starting, doesn’t look good lads but hope we win of course. Can i put a link up for streams?

  5. Well I am watching it on Sky Sports, predicting a Toon win. Can see Joey not gelling with Taraabt and also Cabaye + Tiote dominating midfield. HWTL!!

  6. I’d take a draw tonight tbh. And hope to see Santon in action, though I don’t want to start the simpson/raylor/santon debate at this point :)

    Howay the lads!

“Oh well, here goes … feels like we haven’t played since about 1792.”

Wish it was at home, so we could see THE SIGN.

  8. I’m liking Obertan tonight! Tracking back, winning tackles, challenging in the air and winning headers! Looks really up for it!

  9. Their dicking us… Maybe we should scrap the passing game and just punt the ball up top… Oh, wait a second…We are doing that.

  10. Tiote is having a nightmare. Can’t pass, can’t tackle, been megged twice, constantly giving away free kicks, it’s not pretty.

And it looks like Raylor’s run at LB is over, he is getting crucified by SWP every time

  11. Yup JB and SWP have swapped wings and Raylor needs some assistance. Someone must have snitched and told QPR that he’s an RB :)

  12. Someone please explain to me how shola is still at the club with a new contract, he is the pits, an embarresment

  13. Divven’t like the look of this so far. If I was a neutral, which I’m not, obviously, I’d start supporting QPR as they’re playing better football. :-(

  14. Midfield has been dreadful, saylor, colo, simpson, best and obertan are the only ones who are awake.

  15. Would love to be in the dressing room now, would give that lazy useless prick of a c forward a good hard slap

  16. Come on Worky, it’s QPR, we have been dreadful in the centre. QPR are playing alright, but they ain’t as good as we’ve made them look tonight.

  17. Jimbob don’t knock the Team or I will call you a mackem or cockney barrow boy.
Some right Kernts on the Pardew thread earlier almost as thought they wanted to mount his bumhole.

Looking good tonight lots of attacking football-dreamers.

“Would love to be in the dressing room now, would give that lazy useless prick of a c forward a good hard slap”

Not Shola by any chance shorty? :-)

  19. What the hell are we doing out there?
    Changes needed.

    Santon => R.Taylor
    Ameobi/Ba => Ameobi

i have a feeling however itll end up being

    Guthrie/Lovenkrands => Gutierrez

  20. You see Best scream at that useless shite up top with him? Best looks good, great turn and shot at the start. I better not be too critical of Strolla, otherwise someone will have a pop at me. :-)

  21. Jimbob says:
    September 12, 2011 at 8:52 pm

    “Come on Worky, it’s QPR”

QPR or not Jimbob, they’ve been good, though we have been poor generally.

  22. Yeah Worky, but it’s the same story again in the first-half. Who does Pardew’s scout reports on upcoming teams? QPR are not the ones making us punt the ball up top to nobody (again). We’re not even giving ourselves a chance.

Probably win the second half now :-)

  23. For the 2nd half we need to bring off Shola as he isn’t doing anything and has already been booked. Bring on Sammy. Also Jonas is struggling, so bring on Marveaux.

Best and Obertan have both been good. Something is wrong with Tiote. He looks out of sorts.

  24. Back Four with Santon and move Raylor to wide right and Sammy left and leave Jonas to support Best or Ba.

    Shola, Obertan off asap

  25. We are making him look like Ronaldo, because Jonas has not helped Raylor… Like I said, if he helps him, he’ll be quiet.

And Gary Neville said the same at half time… :-)

  26. Jimbob says:
    September 12, 2011 at 9:09 pm

“We are making him look like Ronaldo”

Howay Jimbob, give ‘little Arnold’ a break! :-)

    What chu talkin’ about Willis?

  27. Shocking performance, no real threat or invention but then the happy clappy brigade will tell me “We’re fourth” :(

  28. Tiote stunk the field up tonight.
What was he doing fiddling about on the 30 yard line, middle of the park. He’s put a couple of stinkers in so far. He can only get better, surely to f***?

    Andy’s right, zero urgency!

But, an away point is an away point. But we allowed them way too much ball.
    Tense f***ing viewing that.

May the 4th be with you!

  29. Wow that was really poor, i can honestly say i couldnt care if i never seen shola play in a black and white shirt again !!!!

  30. QPR deserved a win, if it wasn’t for our defence. Didn’t ever look like scoring did we. Agree with your subs comment AndyMac. Easily our worst performance, but a points a point I suppose.

  31. Clint, Tiote was shocking again. I’m not a fan of how we set up y’know. Someones going to give us a right pasting soon if we don’t buck up our ideas. Should have got smashed today in fairness.

  32. -Shocking Stat-

In terms of Successful Passing this season we are 2nd Bottom on 71.24%

    Top- Man Utd- 85.45%
    Bottom- Blackburn- 70.13%

    League Average- 76.96%

  33. So lucky to come away with a point there! But our defence can’t really take the credit, QPR missed a hatful of absolute sitters where our back four were all over the place. Pure luck we kept a clean sheet and nowt else

  34. And Tiote really needs dropped. He got absolutely nowt right tonight at all. Gosling can’t do any worse than that.

  35. Interesting stat Zimler. I thought Pardew said we are going to change our style… Early days yet of course.

  36. I think we will change it up a bit Jimbob, but I think it’ll be hard to do it with HBA out. Seems he’s gonna be pretty pivotal to the new style, so it’s tough without him there.

  37. Shoulda played 451 with Marveaux in for Shola, though Shola shoulda had a pen or 2.

Good shot bt Krul early on. :)

We were defo a man short in the middle of the pitch.

We played terrible but didn’t lose, is the best ya’ can say.

  38. well barton was running the ship for qpr today 38 passes, think tiote just needs a run of games did miss a chunk of pre season bu he has looked off paced. best showed some fight up front looked like our best (pardon the pun) chance of scoring winning headers and good touches blackburn next lets hope for a stuffing :)

  39. Simpson saved our ass on the line again.
    Colo & Saylor did ok.
    Cabaye did ok too.
Best needs a creative lad next to/just behind him.

  40. Agreed Clint. Shola was pedestrian, but had one or two moments when he did ok, but too few too far apart. And I think he really had some very good penalty shouts, especially the shirt pull, but hey ho, we certainly didn’t deserve to win.

I’d have prefered Marveaux on from the start as well, hopefully he will pick up a few starts shortly.

  41. We were lucky in the first half but we closed the game down in the second half.

Saylor and Colo were solid. Obertan and Best were good in the first half. Ba was good when he came on. Cabaye was good but Tiote doesn’t look right. Shola was terrible, as usual. Sampson was ok. Raylor was struggling and will be found out fairly soon by opponents.

I cannot understand why we play 4-4-2 with Shola and Best away from home. We only need Best upfront with an extra man in midfield. Sooner Ben Arfa and Vuckic are back the better.

  42. Scott,
    aye mate, agreed.

442 away to a club ‘up for it’.

Ba looked better & added a bit of urgency.
But he needs it over the top, playing on the shoulder of the defender.

  43. Utterly amazing not to mention a complete fcuking disgrace that a certain someone is supporting JB tonight…not a surprise from a thoroughly predictable turd. Some people showing their true colours tonight…treacherous judas pr1ck, go support another team a-hole ;-)

That said a poor performance so lucky to come away with a point & Tiote was especially disappointing.

  44. the game should have been done and dusted,in the first half,we should have been four down.
4th in the league and we get outplayed by everyone,it’s a crazy world.we cannot afford any more performances like we’ve had lately,or this start of the season will evaporate quickly.

  45. Play shite/don’t lose/clean sheet/away.

    We’ll have to take that.

Would like to see Santon soon.

  46. Witters… I’m lost on the first part of your comment…

Feckin Gary Neville makes sense don’t he? I really want to continue to hate him though. :-)

Still can’t stand Alan Parry though.

  47. What a bunch of whining negative tossers some of u are. All u do is complain and point out the bad about owner, manager, player etc etc. If u don’t like it then don’t watch n don’t support. Why bother? I bet now u will respond that you’re true fans bla bla. The club don’t owe u anything. U pay for the entertainment n if ur not entertained then piss off n whine at something else.

Ps- yes Worky this means u and also Andy Mac that buzzkill

  48. Clint, I think Raylor didn’t do too well tonight, so think we will see Santon next week. Not too confident about Villa away though, Bent scares me, especially if he gets any of the chances QPR had tonight.

We’ll be better next week I think.

    “-Shocking Stat-

In terms of Successful Passing this season we are 2nd Bottom on 71.24%”

    Perception is a funny thing.

People used to berate Hughton for playing a “long ball” game when statiscally, we were actually somewhere in the middle of the long passing stats.

Now with Pardew, some people who actually watch the games celebrate Pardew’s “passing football”. They have even commented that we could be a Barcelona on Tyne, when we’ve frequently make more long passes per game than we did under Pardew’s predecessor.

  50. jimbob,
    Raylor, another clean sheet.
    Managers are mighty supersticous like.
If those chances had fallen to Best tonight he woulda buried a couple.

  51. What are you talking about Worky???? Are u just googling stats and making comments to seem knowledgeable? Successful passing rate has Nothing to do with long ball or any other style of play. U could be playing long balls the entire game n still have a 100% passing rate if every ball reaches your own team. So why are u taking Zmilers state and then talking about some totally unrelated???

See how easy it is to criticize :-)

  52. That bad passing stat must be solely down to Tiote so far this season.
    :)

    He’ll come good though.
Needs to off the ball quicker in a tight spot though.

  53. Jimbob…I refer you to comment 50 but he knew who I was referring to.

The following words are taken from the thesaurus & most apply to AndyMac:

betraying, catchy, deceitful, deceptive, double-crossing, double-dealing, duplicitous, faithless, false, false-hearted, fly-by-night, insidious, misleading, perfidious, recreant, shifty, slick, slippery, snake in the grass, traitorous, treasonable, tricky, two-faced, two-timing, undependable, unfaithful, unloyal, unreliable, untrue, untrustworthy

He comes on here cos he knows he’s relatively safe from criticism, calls others blogs & bullies people for having different opinions to his small & narrow minded vision of the world.

    He’s a complete cnut…;-)

  54. I was impressed with Best tonight again Clint. Yeah, he’d have buried some of them QPR chances.

Shola was awful though, I hope he was only on the pitch because Ba is still not sharp enough yet. We can’t keep playing 4-4-2, I think Man Utd are the only team that plays that formation often, but they can because their team is immense!

5 in the mids probably best, reckon that’ll be HBA though who slots in for it to change. Hopefully HBA can stay fit and actually show us something this season, it’ll be hard though, he’s been out nearly a year!

  55. OK Witters, I get you mate… Wasn’t sure if you meant me because AndyMac calls me JB sometimes, so I think he was referring to me with his comment… Though I don’t know!

  56. jimbob,
aye mate, Best was good again.
    He’s defo a grower.
Looking forward to him & HBA too.
I think he’ll be ok mate, they’re probably just being super cautious with him, good.
At least his bad break will have had good healing time now.

“So why are u taking Zmilers state and then talking about some totally unrelated???”

That’s simple Joe. Because we are making quite a few unsucessful long passes in games.

I use lots of sources by the way, the one I used came from Match of the Day some time ago, not Google.

I don’t just say thiings off the top of my head, or be childish and abusive for no reason whatsoever for that matter. ;-)

  58. Shola – shite, Tiote surprisingly shite tonite.

Heroes Saylor Colo & Simmo. Best defensive move – Saylors yellow card, very smart.

Doncha just wish we had an attack, Sammeobi on a bit earlier please!!!

  59. Yeah Clint, cracking shot by Krul :-)

Worky, going to have to say I was very wrong about SWP in my preview… Though I still maintain that Jonas had a bit of a stinker tonight, so Raylor was left to be… In the Words of Alan Pardew… “Absolutely raped”. :-)

  60. Tiote’s yellow on barton was funny though moomoo, hey?
Good shout on Saylor though mate.
    ;)
Sammi’s getting worked into the team.

  61. Riding our luck at the moment – but that’s another point & 7 games without defeat! But this team is still far from the finished article – there’s players to come back & debuts to be made, plenty to look forward to.

As for tactics – one forward would have been better with a 5 man midfield.

Big disapointment – Nial Ranger would have made a good sub for the last half hour – what a waste of talent!

    4th ! – so high I’m getting a nose bleed.

Witters I’ve had about enough of all your nasty personal abuse of other site users which has nothing whatsoever to do with football.

    GROW UP.

  63. Probably Clint, he was good though, better than I thought he’d be, but a few players were a bit offish tonight. I think that’s where the formation problems lie.

Pards said ” we struggled to contain the midfield, so we swapped it with an extra midfielder, but maybe we did that a little late”

Well, he said something like that anyway!

Better off with Best up top and 5 mids, maybe see that against Villa, though I think they play a 4 man midfield…

  64. Howay lads,

    cool ya’ jets,
we can’t possibly all get along, all the time.

Take a step back, deep breath.

    Howay the Lads!

  65. Solid at the back with tiote misfiring has to be good. Credit to Cabaye, monster player.

Tiote looked better going forward tonight, a couple of slick moves. Jonas & obertan off it but not given a chance really – always going back.

Its probably worth giving Sammeobi & Gosling a chance but not away from home. Bring back en Arfa, and hope he gets an understanding with the forward line….

  66. Tbh i feel it was an extreamly lackluster point that we got tonight…. Yes it was a point which is good to cement our place in the table for now but i DO NOT in any way see how 4,4,2 is going to help us get anywhere from here on with the players we have i reckon a 4,3,1,2 would be far better we desperatly needed sumone in that CF,CAM position obertan in my opinion had a crackin game he looked lively and cud have played that position with Best and Sameobie in front of him with Jonas/Marveaux, Tiote, Cabaye dominatin midfield and Simpson, Raylor, Colo, Santon in defence and we NEED to stop just hitting it upfield nd hoping to get something on it and start taking our time and use the ability of the squad we have and pass it around and take some ballsey chances when we get them. Just something abit different.

“Tbh i feel it was an extreamly lackluster point that we got tonight”

    Of course it was Toonforlife.

Luckily for us though, Bothroyd let them down a bit finishing wise after they created lots of good chances, especially on the flanks with Wright Phillips and Taarabt.

  68. So, on to Villa and possibly 3 old faces = Given, Zog & Jenas. Of the 3 I only wish Zog was back.

Villa are there to be taken, but I think another 0-0 may be on the cards – but please not 4-4-2 and not Shameobi up front!

  70. Worky,
I agree we absolutly missed a LB in that match, it was rediculosly predictable what QPR were going to with SWP but we just didnt seem switched on at all, regardless of it being an away game we wernt good enuff, no determination and no real conviction.

I’m probably a voice in the wilderness here supermac but I don’t care.

I actually think that Lovenkrands may have been highly underrated during his time at Newcastle.

  72. Lovenkrands underated worky? I used to think that myself esp when we wer relegated, but now im not so sure i dont think he has what it takes tnm gt goals in th PL, maybe as a sub bt nt as a starter.
