Santon deal finally done, presentation picture revealed.

Davide Santon with Alan Pardew.
Santon deal complete? Looks like it!
Well it is according to this picture showing Santon being presented to the cameras at St James’ Park, complete with Newcastle United shirt and Alan Pardew anyway.

As I reported in my previous story, the player has been in Newcastle for a medical, though according to Italian media, there may have been a problem with his contract negotiations due the player allegedly being asked to take a small pay cut on his previous wages at Internazionale. However all of that seems to be history now

Though the speculation seems to be that the player has signed a five year contract with the Magpies, there was no official confirmation of this at the time of writing.

Welcome to Newcastle Davide!

Alan Pardew presents Davide Santon.
Finally, the official presentation picture!

  1. Great signing now hopefully we can try and get Kiko Macheda on loan. But right now a very positive signing

  2. Machaeda as interprater or does this lad speak fluent enough geordie to settle in without him?

  3. Great long term signing, if Mouriniho rates him it’s good enough for me. Jose who ? ……

  4. Very happy with this deal, lets hope we can get a striker or 2 through the door too.
With the obvious exceptions of Ranger and Smith I hope there’s no more outgoings before the window closes.

  5. Mourihno called him the child hope it wasn’t to do with his attitude. despite him being sent out on loan last year he does seems to have alot of potential and defo. ticks the cashley checklist of young cheap and potential resale value

hope he does well for us and we get a decent striker in ( not necessarily Macaeda )

  6. Great signing for the Toon, now if we can Macheda they will be great additions, also heard rumour of Darron Gibson

  7. great signing now go and get top class striker hope its not macheda 1 goal in 14 games for the mancs doesont say a lot still think we need another centre back as we have no cover

  8. santon playing behind ben arfa mmmmmmm or if bh goes 2nd striker then jonas in front of santon still sounds very attaking coz this lad like to drive with the ball too, quality signing

  9. FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
now a striker please and europe here we come

[Admin edit] Howay man, none of that page stretching shite! -Thump

  10. if he’s been bought as an additional defender great, but he is a right back, if he has been bought as enrique’s replacement it will be a total disaster

  11. This should quench the moaning about pace and creativity in our team now. We just need a quick and class forward to finish what we need.

So far so good. And with the international break it will give Santon time to adjust with us! :D

  12. Great signing. Another player for Ashley to make a good profit on at next transfer window

  13. A super signing but hoping he is to play rb. Despite what people say about playing either side he is still right footed. Like the defence we are building (just need 1 more full back!) coupled with our cm positions we have an excellent nucleus of a team, just lacking a fit Ben arfa and a number 9. Also exciting is putting a team down on paper of players under 25 – good future team. :-)

  14. great signing. see the doom merchants are out again though! italian left back isn’t good enough for us, he needs to be on the right? get real numpties.

“Anyone know what time the Santon interview will be on?”

I wonder if Pardew will be willing to give an interview on the signing? :-)

  16. Fantastic signing. Hopefully, 3 more of similar quality to come before the window closes. 2 forwards and a left back will give us a season to look forward to

  17. DOMINIC says:

    “NOW FOR 2 STRIKERS”

Yeah I’d lay off that skunk Dominic its not good for you :)

    and Steve as well :)

This is Newcastle United not Citeh. We dont have a Sheikh Fathim in charge !!!

  18. come on the toon sign a bloody striker now not looking forward to 2moro please god we keep our better players i hae transfer deadine day but hopefully we get a class striker in and i just might change my mind

  19. looks like ashley wants to play tight again and go for man u striker on loan, i really think ben arfa could be a good out and out striker for us, he,s fast , got quality skills and knows where the net is, i think we have enough quality in midfield now , lets just hope this santon guy gels quick coz the last 4 games we,ve had krul has been motm probaly 3 times for me and thats a worry, if it was,nt for him at scunny then it could of been a disaster,

  20. Flight takes 2 hours.
    Medical takes 2 hours.
Getting the money out of Fatman’s wallet takes 8 months
For everything else there’s Mastercard :)

  21. Penalty-Spot says:

“I’m not being funny guys and I hope it’s true (sure it will be by tomorrow) but that picture looks dodgy to me…have a look at the actual size version. His legs n feet ain’t right!”

Yeah but Pardwho’s always been like that :)

Lee Ryder from the Chronic posted it Penalty-Spot.

  23. You’d think after selling the best left back in the league, ashley would have spent that same wad on choices 1 or 2 – i.e. Cissohko or Pieters.. but no always the budget route at the toon these days… get someone surplus to requirements on the cheapo… plus Italians rarely settle.

Who’s next ? let me see ah yes a loanee from Manure who scores 1 in 10 games? woohoo CLASSIC Ashley!

Quick look amongst the comments above me… ah yes you’re all doing cartwheels about a lesser replacement… tick tock… talk about lowered standards…

and no, I’m not a mackem – but a very disgruntled and longsuffering toon fan.

  24. “You’d think after selling the best left back in the league, ashley would have spent that same wad”

Since when did Leighton Baines play for us?

  25. Penalty-Spot, possibly, don’t think Raylor deserves to be dropped, but I think Simpson will keep his place in the team…

  26. Very right footed. Has played left back but looks better on the right side.
Personally I prefer left footed left backs. Better than Simpson on the right side possibly but nowhere near Jose standard on the left.
Let’s hope he is better than I think. He will get my support however as he looks like a trier.

Know where you’re coming from ogy. As I said the other day with Fatman you kinda know he’ll screw up so you hold your breath waiting for some great signings but then when you run out of air you’re happy for anyone to come in provided it isnt Marcelino :)

I think that’s what he does very well. Limits the fans expectations so eventually they’re happy with anyone coming in through the door.

  28. The boy does look very good indeed, will be physical and I am very impresed with him as a replacment for Jose who was class. For the doubters who worry about him being right footed (and his is very much so) I remind you the Graham Le saux was right footed Denis Irwin was right footed and most importiantly the best left back over to play the game Palo Maldini was right footed! A striker with real pace would be nice… And dont be to suprised if we see the beast Check Tiote leave for Arsenal for big money to fatten the fat mans pocket

  29. italians allways produce quality defenders, as for jose being much better , i don,t think so , this guy has played some quality football at the top level, don,t get me wrong jose was quality and gave everything but i think this guy has more potential

  30. Coach Dec says:

“And dont be to suprised if we see the beast Check Tiote leave for Arsenal for big money to fatten the fat mans pocket”

But Tiote says he’s happy here……………….oh wait Carroll said that as well and Nolan and Barton.

Coach Dec you’re a makem and I claim my prize :)

  31. Team for QPR:

    Krul
    Raylor, Saylor, Colo, Santon
    Obertan, Tioté, Cabaye, Jonas
    Best, Elliot

What, keepers are tall – surely he’ll be great in the air!

  32. Coach Dec says:
    August 30, 2011 at 7:54 pm

“and most importiantly the best left back over to play the game Palo Maldini was right footed”

Aye, he is (possibly) Dec, but one of the many reasons he was so great was that he developed the abilty to be both left AND right footed. He was a league apart.

  33. FFS lads give the lad a chance, he right footed but your no mug getting 7 caps for italy at left back by the age of 20…i watch quite alot of italian football and i’m telling you now he is absoloutely top class. Give him 6-12 month to properly settle in (ei with language, area, team-mates and club in general) and he will be one of best full backs in league. I remember last season spurs vs inter and lennon jus couldnt get past him.. I’m over the moon we got him and at 4.5m euro one hell of a bargain, not a great fan of the fat club but this is one hell piece of shrewd business. I would much rather have him than Pieters or cissohko.

Ps jus heard a rumour fernando Llorente from bilbao is on our radar, not sure how true but would imagine he’s well out of our price range. Would be happy with maiga £7m and macheda on loan

    Keep the faith

  34. HA No Im not a mac, just Arsen has a a wad of cash he MUST spend, and he is a big fan of Cheik, (who wouldnt be the boy is class) You never know maybe the fat man will say no to the cash (and maybe I will get sun burn tomorrow)haha

Team for beating QPR if we keep him and dont sign a wold class forward lol

    Krul
    Santon Colo Taylor Simpson
    R Taylor Tiote Cabaye Jones
    Obertan Best

  35. rick parphitt says:

“FFS lads give the lad a chance, he right footed but your no mug getting”

Are you Yoda in disguise ?

  36. Santon looks great as a right footed player at LB, cutting in make passes/shots, somehow, i think we may have POTENTIALLY replaced jose with an IMPROVEMENT!!

    HWTL!!

  37. could,nt agree more rick, this boy is top class , lets just hope he can find his feet quickly in epl, defenders don,t allways gel quick , look at colo when he came and jose, they were both bollocks when they came but turned out quality, give this boy time and we,ll be fighting off the top 4

  38. this kid man marked ronaldo in champions league qtr’s in only his 9th start for inter, in the end fergies swithed him over to the left. He good with both feet, has pace, stature, vision, strengh and rarely jumps out of a tackle. All these are key ingredients to a good full back. As for replacement for enrique, enrique wouldnt get near the team if he was still here and we had signed this boy….

Has anyone else heard any thing on this Llorente tale doing the rounds?

Ps.. is Brian Swanston doing anybodys head in with that b*****d ipad of his yet?

  39. Great signing for a right back is Santon..but we still need a left back(Ali Cissoko?) and a striker or 2(Maiga and Macheda on loan) though and maybe another midfielder to replace Barton(Barnetta?}..well thats about it til January..:)

Yes they should let Natalie Sawyer have a go at it…

    AndyMac, your ‘Yoda’ comment…

  41. I’ve finally got around to uploding the official presentation picture for any of you who haven’t seen it already.

Sorry for the delay but I’ve been deeply probing our new defender for another piece.

I’m sure that you’d rather see Nathalie Sawyer have a go with Georgie Thompson on the SkySports newsdesk Jimbob.

“I’m sure that you’d rather see Nathalie Sawyer have a go with Georgie Thompson on the SkySports newsdesk Jimbob.”

You could jumble a few of these words around and then yes, I would rather see that…

  44. Apart from probing Georgie and Natalie, the message here is whether he’s left footed, right footed or club footed Fatman’s finally spent some money (unless it was paid in chips for a ;ocal Casino or Sports Direct vouchers to be used in the new Milan superstore ?)for a decent player.

Everyone outside and howl at the moon

  45. We should focus on Macheda for a loan for a replacement for Ranger then go for a main striker in Roux or Cisse. Cisse looks to have pace though which we want.

So excited for the transfer deadline and what we can do for the rest of the season if we get a class striker alongside the santon signing.

  46. It’s obviously just a cynical attempt to make the team better & get fans to part with their hard-earned to watch football at SJP.

  47. Pardwho the Clueless said

“We are delighted to bring to Davide to Newcastle. He is a quality left-back and an established international who also gives us flexibility in defence. Davide is a young lad and a great signing for us and I am sure he will adapt to the Premier League very quickly.”

Thank feck he didnt say “We’ve been tracking this boy for a long time”. Keep it simple Pardwho otherwise people will begin to suspect !!

“I cant help it mate. Not been this excited about our team for years”

Have you got your Kanga pants on in case have a little accident Phisix? :-)

  49. i LIKe that Santon has a few days to settle in before our next game, and hopefully its also a sign to other potential signings that we’re building a strong team here for the future.

All thats left is for a striker or two, what about Gyan the scum are supposed to be selling for 6m (find it hard to believe tho, they paid 15m)…

Macheda, 20, still learning but great player…

Demba Cisse, did we really bid 11m? i hope so…

  50. 1st team looking goooood!!!!!

    —————Krul—————
    Simpson–Taylor-Colo–Santon
    ———Cabaye-Tiote———-
    ————–Ben Arfa————-
    Marveaux————–Jonas—
    —————–Ba

    not bad reserve team either:

    —————-Elliot————–
    Raylor–Willo–Situ—Ferg–
    ——Gosling– Gutherie——
    Vucikc——————-Obertan
    ———-Best———————
    ——————Ameobi——–

SUBS: Sammy, Abied, Macheda ? , McLoven, etc…

  51. “Demba Cisse, did we really bid 11m?”

No because thats the transfer budget for the next two seasons :)

  52. To the people suggesting he’s a right back… He’s right footed BUT his main and regular position is left back. There is no rule that you play better on the right side just because you are right footed… that’s just a myth.

I seem to remember Philipe Lahm of Germany playing left back in the European championships a few years ago despite being right footed and he was 1 of the stand out players of the whole tournament…. and that’s saying a lot considering full back isn’t normally a position that gets a chance to catch the eye.

  53. yep hes our left back simpson is rb with tavernier understudy(wonder if rayon taylor will stay left as stanton as understudy?)at 20 hope santon can handle prem…….still very young!
