Xisco medical at Deportivo tomorrow?

Xisco: Deportivo bound?
Xisco: Deportivo bound?
While most attention has been focused on the alleged medical of Stephen Ireland on Tyneside today, news has come in from the official website of Deportivo de La Coruña that the forgotten man of the Newcastle United frontline, Xisco, will be returning to his old club for a medical on tomorrow morning (Monday).

Though my Spanish is a little rusty to say the least, the article on the Deportivo site says something like:

“Sand and Xisco to have a medical exam tomorrow with the Sports Sunday 30/01/2011 15:19, canaldeportivo, TO Coruña

“The Argentine forward, Jose Sand, and the also Spanish ram, Xisco, hope to arrive this afternoon TO Coruña.

“Tomorrow, Monday 31 of January, both footballers will have a medical exam first thing in the morning at the Medical Services of the Royal Sports Club.”

The forward, who signed for Newcastle for a reported initial fee of £5.7 million on the 1st September, 2008, and on high wages, has only played 10 games in the first team since his arrival. In that time, he only scored one goal, and also spent some time away on loan at another Spanish club, Racing Santander.

By his own admission his stay with the club has hardly been a success. In an interview around a year after he joined the club he caused something of a furore by saying:

“After a difficult first year in Newcastle, this year seemed it was going to be more of the same and a good time to leave.”

“I even stopped playing in the last few days to force my exit.

“If they hadn’t accepted the loan at Santander, I would have regarded my situation at Newcastle as hopeless.”

Good luck with the medical!

  1. Anyone think it is a bit of a coincidence that we let Xisco go just as Liverpool have said it will take £50mil to get Torres?
    :)

We could have offered a straight swap, Tez!

  3. Robbie Keane gone to West Ham. Good. It was starting to look like he would end up here. Hammers are really desperate at the moment.

  4. Shame really, he’s never really had a chance. Would prefer to just get him off the books altogether though.

  5. Do you not think Robbie Keane might have done well for us on loan? I think we need a striker. I was really surprised we didn’t try to sign Carlos Vela.

  6. The whole Xisco thing has been a bit surreal. At £570,000 a game I’d have expected a bit more entertainment from him, like maybe taking to the pitch on a unicycyle or whatever.

Divven’t knock it, batty. It’s an excellent idea and I hope it comes off in the end.

  9. Judging by the results tonight, looks like Arry could do with someone like Andy Caroll. Ooops, what have I said .!!!

  11. Imagine we paid almost 6 million for this guy!… I wonder who we could get for that kind of money in this window.

Speaking of transfers… Ireland dosnt make me that confident about Pardew’s transfer skills. Just let Carr do the transfers?

  12. Podolski and Huntelaar. Two of the most overrated players of the last 5 or so years. Huntelaar is no better than Carlton Cole and Podolski, whilst very talented, is inconsistency personified. He literally goes from world class to championship level from game to game. Hence why nobody will touch him with a barge pole.

  13. Why are people assuming Ireland is Pardew’s work and not Carr’s. What proof do people have of this?

  14. El Toro,
aye mate, i’m sure i read AP stating that: These days, all the ground work gets done without the manager & he gets brought in at the end. Or words to that effect.

  15. Clint

Exactly. Just listen to Harry’s recent interviews. He has no idea what Spurs are doing with regards to signings. Managers no longer exist, only coaches. Well, other than Wenger and Fergy that is.

  16. Valle – do you have proof that Pardew is the one behind Ireland?

    Could it now be Carr?

You people on the internet conjour up some bullshit like.

See previous post in the topic you didnt believe you thickhead.

  17. El Toro,
    totally mate.
It’s all changed over the last few years. I find it weird that people still think it’s how it always was.
Everything is delegated out now, soon, players will delegate playing out.
    :)
    Maybe some have already?
    :)

What do you think of the ireland rumours btw mate?

  18. 18 hrs to go. It will be so interesting tonight. Hopefully we can get someone on the board. We may sign 1-3 players or nothing at all. Who know?

  19. Looks like the press are full throttle on Andy Carroll leaving, this time its Liverpool and if its true that he will treble his wages with any move i think it will happen sooner or later.
I would be gutted if he went but you couldnt blame the lad with the cash on offer.

  20. Trying to look on the bright side here. 30m is a heck of a lot of money. We are unbeaten in 4 without Carroll and with Carroll, we will always be a ”long ball” team. You see it with Crouch, teams just become totally one dimensional when he plays for them.

I like Carroll because he gives 100% and he is good on the deck too, but we NEVER EVER use him that way and play proper passing football to feet. It’s just too easy and lazy for players to bang in endless 60 yard balls to a 7 foot giant and teams have been sussing this out.

There must be cheaper and equally good replacements out there. Carroll has had half a season in the premiership and is now injured with what is quite a recurring injury for footballers. If you believe the rumours his lifestyle isn’t exactly condusive to getting fit any time soon. Is he a one season wonder? Who nows? Just trying to put a positive spin on it and see an upside if he does go.

  21. anybody else feel just a tad nervous about the situation with carroll then any sort of news of players coming in. Be glad when the window shuts but cant help but feel one last twist right at the end of it

  22. didn’t that twat dennis wise burden us with this hasbeen?i remember this being one of those things king kev was ranting about when he unceremoniously left the second time..

  23. Mark… Thats rich from someone who drops to kindergarden level and name calling.

I made an assumption, but you made a lie… There’s a difference. Let me put it this way, you send your chief scout to gather reports on an estaplished EPL player? kinda wastefull if you ask me, and i doubt thats the way they do things. But hey, i know just as little as El’Toro who seems to think he got it all figured out.
