Toon v Tangerines match banter!

Mags v Tangerines.
Mags v Tangerines.
Promotion is won now, but there is still the matter of the Football League Championship to consider as Blackpool visit St James’s Park this afternoon. Of course, Ian Holloway’s ‘Tangerines’ were one of only four teams to beat us this season, the others being Nottingham Forest, Scunthorpe and Derby. We had our revenge on Nottingham Forest and Scunthorpe, with a 0-0 draw preceding the Derby defeat, so, Blackpool could be the last team to ‘do the double’ over us. They certainly have the motivation to do it as Blackpool, currently seventh in the Championship have their own eyes on promotion, and a good end of the season could lead to a playoff spot for them.

Of course, if you have any good links to match commentary for the game for people who live outside the North East, please feel free to post them here. Also, for more pre match speculation, as per usual, check out Toonsy’s excellent match preview

Howay the lads!

“Any radio links that works outside the UK??”

The nufcradio.tk one should work everywhere, okk. Have you tried it?

  4. Thanks Toonsy…

receiving http://www.nufcradio.tk/ loud and clear in Jaarmany..well, kind of loud and clear, just started getting a bit choppy…maybe the satellite got bricks hoyed at it flying over Elswick Road…

  5. radios toast… cack… “Norman Collier” ? sorry worky…whats the crack ?…living abroad..that’s a new un to me..

  6. The smogies are hopeless like. Even if they did get to the playoffs I don’t recon they would win them.

  7. If I were Ranger I´d ask for a transfer request. At least if Hughton stays at the helm. Same for Kadar. They only get their chances through injuries. Ridicilous.

  8. Paulo Souza and Swansea can thank their luck stars Blackpool are away at St.James Park otherwise they would find themselves kicked oot of the playoff spots today.

  9. Real Madrid v Barca tonight. I never usually watch Spanish football as I don’t rate it personally, but I have to watch that later just to see Messi!

  10. Carroll and Lovenkrands seem to have a good understanding. Quite a few times Caroll has tee’d Lover up this season and vice-versa.

  11. El Clasico FTW~~~~

Time to see CR9 and messi magic. hahahas.

Though I am an RM fan too.

    RM FTW!!!! ;)

  12. Totally off-topic……but I just need to get back into the habit of taking the p**s out of the red scum in preparation for next season….

    Fancy a cheap holiday?
Apparently 25000 flight tickets from Gatwick to Madrid on May 22nd may have just been cancelled. Best be quick. go to http://www.aufwiedersehnfergie.com/

The red shirts are protesting in Bangkok again.
Why can’t that Man U scum acccept that they’re out of the Champions League now.

    BREAKING NEWS:-
Ferdinand and Vidic are leaving Man U this summer to star in the new Batman film.
All they have to do is stand around and ask, “Where’s Robben?”

  13. I have no issue with Man Utd really. They are better than us and I resoect them a little bit more now after this season. Now we know what they face every week when all teams want to beat them.

Now Liverpool on the hand…….. ;)

  14. Aye Ross, could be 5 easily.

What happened to us getting slacked off the face of the planet? And where has Charlie “best player in the league” Adam been? Nolan has had that jumped up jock in his pocket all game!

    3-0 well done lads

  15. Charlie Adam IS one of the best players in the Championship. He was last season when he was on loan and he has been this season too. In fact, find a player in the Championship who is Scottish and you’ll see him near the top of the list.

Ideal squad players for next season I think and the benefit would be you are almost certain to make a profit from their sale if they don’t make it as Championship teams know their quality at that level.

It’s win-win if you ask me.

  16. YES!

Hull down to Burnley. Get back to the Championship where you belong Hull.

  17. Get Leon Best on, give him a crack now the game is dead and we need to rest players for Tuesday.

  18. Toonsy @ 81

OK Toonsy here’s one just for you LOL

I was in a bar with a Scouser yesterday.
    “It’s a lovely day today.” I said.
To which he said, “Yeah, if I had a job I’d take the f**kin day off!”

  19. wickywoowoo

I think you’ll find Kevin Nolan is championship player of the season and thats a fact.

Adam will feel out of his depth at St James Park. lol

  20. wickywoowoo – Is he better than Nolan? That has been the argument presented for a few weeks now.

    It seems he isn’t.

  21. UTD 111 – My hatred of Liverpool runs much deeper than jokes like that ;)

    Hull 1-3 Burnley

  22. Worky ye could be right there ;) and I dont think it is just his goals he brings a lot of other things with him and I thing the Kids look up to him too.

  23. Also, I’d like to see West Ham go down. If they stop up then I don’t think they will be down the bottom of the table next year. If Hull stayed up then I think they would be so it could help us stopping up.

  24. toonsy

I hate Liverpool more than I hate Sunderland and I will have a street party when they crash and burn in the next few seasons.

  25. @toonsy: And they got the sea-sick

    Anyway,left 1 more and a draw will do. ;)

  26. Oh well. I think all in all this is adequate revenge for the defeat we suffered at the start of the season. Some of their fans might have thought we would have let them have the points since we have won and they are still chasing playoffs. hahahahahaha

  27. thats a bit annoying – harper needs to learn to either catch it or push it away from goal

  28. Toonsy hello mate I wasnt being ignorant its just im normally on here most of Saturday morn yarning, but this week has been a bit hectic with the daughter being back from Uni we were out today and I only got back about 10 mins before kick off.
I fel bad now after my score prediction :(

  29. I never said Adam was better than Nolan – I said Adam was ONE of the best players in the league. Any honest fan would admit that.

One of the best doesn’t mean THE best, does it?

  30. I think the pressure of all the world cup talk is maybe getting to Harper. He never usually makes the mistakes of the last few weeks.

  31. Also, DJG – Adam was a Rangers player. Newcastle wouldn’t be out of his depth, lol. Ibrox is an equal stadium with more regular high profile european football and a bigger fan base.

    Out of his depth, lol.

  32. For most of this season Adam would have played in front of 10 – 20,000 crowds. Today is double that.

  33. wickywoowoo

Yes 4-1 when we have nothing to play for and they are very much still chasing playoffs suggests to me out of their depth. Remember Blackpool get about 10,000 ;)

  34. That is out of Blackpool’s depth then – Charlie Adam doesn’t run the club or build the stadium, lol.

The point is Adam has played infront of a crowd the same size as what St James’ Park offers. It isn’t something new to him or something that would scare him.

I am sure you wouldn’t have objected to his goals and assists this season either, would you?

“Ibrox is an equal stadium with more regular high profile european football and a bigger fan base.”

Rangers are about the same size as Newcastle while Newcastle are in the Championship. The Premiership is a different matter though.

  36. Yes, but Adam has outperformed all but 3 or 4 Newcastle players this season too. What does that say about our squad? That he would fit in perfectly and offer an out and out attacking, goalscoring midfield option with mobility – that we do not have.

You just made a point that backs up my opinion.

  37. Rangers get European football every season because it’s impossible not to. The SPL is competed for by two teams. It’s like a formality.

  38. Thats not me saying I dont rate Charlie Adam though. He was pulling the strings for them today and from what i’ve seen has been good for them most of this season.

Ross, It’s a bit like Norwich getting a place in the Champion’s League for winning League 1.

    _____________________________________________

And the English Prem League is competed by more than 2 teams?? since when??

  41. UTD111-When did I say it wasn’t? The Premiership wasn’t in question. But you only have to look at the table currently to see there’s 3 points between the top of the league and third. I’d say it’s currently being competed for by 3 teams.

Take a look at the SPL to see Rangers are currently 13 points clear of Celtic, with Celtic 5 points clear of third, and 13 points themselves, clear of fourth. It’s a two horse race from the moment the league kicks off. The Premiership is not.

  42. The EPL has been a 2 horse race for the last 6 years Ross. I’d like to see Arsenal win it for a change but we all know they won’t LOL

Since the EPLs inception, only 4 teams have ever won it – and one of them was Blackburn who bought it.

Wasn’t having a go at you, but I always chuckle when this allegation is thrown at the SPL by english folk….

  43. UTD111-I agree with you that Arsenal won’t win it this year, I was more talking currently, as opposed to overall. Like you say, it’s sadly quite clear that it will be Manure or Chelsea winning the league, lol.

I just think on a game to game basis, The Premiership is far more competitive. Even when you look at domestic cups etc, from what I’ve seen and can remember, the old firm are pretty much always involved and will most probably win it.
That’s not me saying that the likes of Chelsea, Man u etc arent regularly involved in the latter stages of the FA cup etc, because they are. There just seems to be a huge gulf in ability between the old firm and the rest of the SPL, whereas i think although there are some brilliant players playing in the Premiership, the games between the outsiders and the top four, will be more competitive, on a more regular basis. (If that actually makes sense. I’ve typed it thinking it did, so im going with it, lol).

I think West Ham would give Chelsea more of a game than Falkirk would give Celtic, put it that way. Celtic however, have been abysmal this season, lol.

“Since the EPLs inception, only 4 teams have ever won it – and one of them was Blackburn who bought it.”

Of course, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal didn’t “buy it”, UTD111. They won it strictly using homegrown players from their own academies. :-)

  45. Worky @141

I take your point on that. I guess what I was trying to say in my clumsy way is that it took the sort of money Jack Walker had to break into the exclusive club for just one season!

  46. Portsmouth’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed following West Ham’s victory over Sunderland on Saturday.

    Bye. ;)

  47. UTD111-I Find Celtics demise this season highly amusing. I live in Edinburgh these days and hear alot from my mates about how Celtic would brush Newcastle aside quite easily. Needless to say the 4-1 beating in pre season was deemed a mistake, a needless fixture, and given every other excuse under the sun lol.

My best mate is a Rangers fan and my dad is from that end of Glasgow so if I had to follow a Scottish team, it would be them.

  48. My opinion rarely matches that of anyone on this blog, Ed’s blog or BBC 606. I am not used to not liking these things :-p

  49. wicky – I don’t not rate Adam, he has put Blackpool up there near enough by himself. I just think he has been talked a lot and is no better than Nolan, Guthrie or Barton. But that is my opinion.

  50. toonsy says:
    April 10, 2010 at 6:06 pm

“Yeah, i just did a quick one.”

So Bowburn probably won’t bother to write a proper one now. ;-)

  51. Yeah – Adam has got a weaker squad there by himself. He is about the same age as Danny Guthrie too so if we give Guthrie time to improve in the Premiership – surely Adam would have the same right?

Would Guthrie, Nolan or Barton have achieved what Adam has for the team if they were in the Blackpool squad? No, I don’t think they would.

  52. And? Adam doesn’t play for us, hence I dont really care.

If you want to whip yourself into an orgasmic frenzy about Charlie Adam then I’m sure there are some Blackpool fans that will help achieve that creamy mess.
