Latest Toon signing Edmundsson ripping Russia apart! (video).

NUFC Blog have scoured the length and breadth of YouTube to track down a video of new Toon signing, Jóhan Símun Edmundsson in action. Well here he is playing for the Faroe Islands against Russia Under 21s and scoring the winning goal with a very decent header (he is No.17 playing in white).

In the wake of Toon’s January transfer bonanza comes news of the club’s latest youth signing. 18 year old Jóhan Símun Edmundsson, a striker who can play on the flanks has arrived on loan until the end of the season from Faroe Islands giant, B68 Toftir. He has also been capped by the Faroe Islands national team.

Some of you may remember that the current head coach of the Faroe Islands, Brian Kerr, used to be assisted by Chris Hughton when manager of Ireland. Kerr said on the player:

“I don’t think he’s going to be in Newcastle’s first team this season, but I’d expect him to make a very good impression and maybe look to break into the side next year,”

“He’s a biggish lad who has good ability. He can beat a man – he has a trick – and he knows how to score goals.”

“He’s scored in three Under-21 international matches in the last year, including against Russia, when Colin Calderwood was there to watch him.”

“He was playing out wide in a 4-3-3 formation then, but I think he’s better playing through the middle, which is where I picked him for his full international debut against France.”

“I spoke to Chris Hughton about him and we had Edmundsson and another lad – Christian Mouritsen – go on trial at Newcastle before Christmas.”

“Chris liked them both, but felt that Christian, at 21, needed first-team football, which Newcastle couldn’t offer him.”

“But Edmundsson has a chance. As well as his ability, he’s incredibly enthusiastic, honest, willing to learn, as the players in the Faroes and across Scandinavia tend to be.”

Judge for yourself Toon scouts. What do you think?

  1. Worth a shout I think but give him service like that from the wing instead of floated high balls for him to flick on zzzzzz

  2. This is a joke right, as if you can tell anything from the vid unless you think you’re Dennis Wise!

  3. Also Clem, do you think the quality of a youtube broadcast of a Faroe Islands under 21 match is going to be the highest quality?

I know it’s not exactly the third world but come on, it is a bit remote!

  4. Hello toonsy

The Faroe Islands are a modern welfare state and I would safely argue with a higher standard of living than the UK. For example the minimum wages are £9-10/hour.

  5. higher standard of living than the uk?

wiki your country and eat ya words.

5% unemployment and has to rely on 20% of your GNP to come from denmark to make ends meet.

in short, your economy is on a tightrope and extremely vulnerable

but least you’ve got kristian blak to while away those long cold nights

its fair to say most scandinavian countries do have a high quality of life, alas, your about as scandinavian as iceland

  6. eastend, the UK has about an 8% unemployment, the USA has around a 13%. 5% is significantly lower than both of these. Quality of life is about far more than just statistics, but of course your English ignorance that we are the best country in the world will of course prevail.

On a football note, he seems like a decent player, but I can’t see how he can make a large impact at first team level, we seem to have a wealth of strikers (albeit the most of them are distinctly average).

…Faroe, how much is it for a pint of Heineken, 20 Regal and a packet of dry roast?

  8. I have been to the Faroe Islands many times and I know the country well….and I have to say with out a shadow of a doubt that they DO have a much higher standard of living there than in the UK by a mile! any one who thinks people in the uk have a high standard of living are living a very sheltered life..the kind of narrow minded shit that comes from a lot of newcastle fans…

“the kind of narrow minded shit that comes from a lot of newcastle fans…”

Narrow minded such as your use of gross generalistion. I have also been to the Faroe Islands and would agree with your comments, but the name you use and your final comment let you down badly. Which team do you follow?
