Reading v Newcastle game OFF!

Posted on January 7th, 2010 | 110 Comments |

The beautiful white cold stuff outside is turning into a right pain in the backside and Newcastle United have become the latest victims as the Reading game on Saturday has been called off. Reading have made a statement on their official site:

“Reading’s upcoming Coca-Cola Championship fixture against Newcastle United has been postponed. The game was originally set for 3pm this coming Saturday 9th January, but there is no prospect of a significant improvement in conditions between now and the weekend, so the club, along with the Football League, have taken the decision on the grounds of safety.

Our supporters’ safety is absolutely paramount, we take the matter very seriously and have made what we see as the most sensible and professional decision. With considerable ice and snow both inside and outside Madejski Stadium, there was no option but to postpone the game. In addition, a postponement gives both sets of supporters the best possible notice period.

Snowploughs were at Madejski Stadium on both Wednesday and Thursday, but the heavy snowfall ensured there was simply no prospect of the game taking place. The clubs will now begin to discuss a new date and this will be corresponded to supporters in due course. Tickets for Saturday’s game will be valid for the rearranged fixture.

No doubt our own official site will have it up soon enough as will other blogs, but here it is anyway for those that were planning on attending the game. And between now and Saturday, we’ll have to work out what the hell we’re going to do with our Saturday afternoons…

  13. Doccey – see someones been using my name on your site!

Any Suspects? Batty …any ideas? ;)

  14. “I’m off to Newcastle,” he revealed exclusively to Goal.com UK, though refusing to comment further.

The plot thickens C’mon Mike splash the shpondoolicks ya fookin fat ragie !!

  15. Any truhttp://www.newcastle.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=183820th in this………

  16. Hasnt that GOAL site been known for talking complete rubbish in the past?…i doubt it would be his first port of call, if he was going to come out and publically confirm he’s “off to newcastle united”…someone like SSN would have surely got a hold of it. What did they do, just bump into him in the street, ask for the hell of it and get “well actually, saying as you asked..”

  17. SIRJASONTOON;its about the only thing ive beaten in many years cheers m8,we are sad really sniffing anywhere for a bit news of the lads, hope ashley doesnt find out, mind i think hes busy at pompy had to nip down to c/place to give some help

  18. ROSS;goal normaly just follow other threads they say its a excli may got a deal going with them just a guess,as i said on another site

  19. Your a winner Icedog…been refreshing newsnow and got excited about signing a 3rd division player…times change….c’mon Ashley you big fat mook !!

  20. icedog-Fair enough mate, are they allowed to fabricate quotes and claim Beckford made them? I always thought there was a fine line between making up a story and then actually fabricating quotes, but who knows. Just find it strange that he’d confirm to goal.com that he was leaving, and not something like the bbc or SSN. I’m just ever the sceptic regarding the toon and transfers these days. I’ll believe it when its confirmed by the club, until then i cant see him joining us if the rumour of our bid being 1.5 million is true.

  21. i’m p issing myself with the excitment of signing a trouble making 3rd division nobody……a troublesome night’s sleep lies ahead.

  22. ROSS mate stick with sirjasontoon, batty ect they will keep you right honest as the days long

  23. komfort-Just flicked onto SSN and they say Leeds are currently mulling over a third bid. Is it 2 mil they want?..if it is and we’re offering 1.5 i dont see why we wouldnt just boost the bid. It is ashley we’re talking about though i suppose.

  24. ross , calm your passions m8….your right it’s fatty were talking about….wont happen.

  25. komfort-Dont worry mate i’m believing nowt until its on SSN or the official. My gut feeling is that we’ll make half arsed bids like this purely as an excuse, so when the end of jan rolls round they can say “look, we tried!..(again)”.
We just cant afford to do it though. Business end of the season we need strength in depth and someone thats gonna score continuously. We cant even guarantee Beckford would be that player, lol. I could see him doing a job for us though.

  26. bye the way doocey , there’s a certain bloke on here claiming incapacity benefit whilst clearing peoples paths for some extra dosh……i think you’ll find he’s the spammer/spanner.

…he’s the stealer of many a good man’s name.

  27. going to confimed by clubs friday after medical thats what there saying on leeds press just dont know with the toon,if so ashley must have won the money on sky-bet

  28. icedog-where you finding the stuff from the leeds press? always slightly better hearing it from them rather than a local rag/toon site i suppose

  32. ROSS;just got call from friend in leeds, takeing the water about it mind he is the normal leeds thug;,cannot say how good there press is,but surely they cannot be as bad as ours mind one never knows

  33. would = wouldn’t

Worky im not that fussed on him tbh I think we have enough goal scorer’s in the team. I think that’s half the problem as none of them are getting a “regular” decent run in the team.

  34. cant beleive it dave 1 of me best buddys on here and hes trying to grass me for somthing i havent done any 1 seen cropper

  35. Batty I haven’t seen him on for a while I think he was out helping a friend that was clearing peoples paths. ;)

“Worky im not that fussed on him tbh I think we have enough goal scorer’s in the team.”

There are lots of players like him who have scored lots of goals in the lower divisions, but aren’t that good once they move up too high. His game doesn’t seem to have a great deal of depth really, Dave.

  37. komfort see u have been advertising workys blog on dooceys u sly fox how much is worky paying u

<<<< worky but he did score against a top prem side could of had 2 so we best buy a decent winger now to supply the crosses

  39. What’s this about a french guy called Johhny Rotten ?? Any chance of him being Jerome Rothen ? He was great once…but utter piss nowadays…

  40. worky , i agree & if we can get him for nowt then i’d take a chance with him on a 18 month contract.

    …batty xx

“What’s this about a french guy called Johhny Rotten ??”

I think it’s Jerome Rothen, ToonKing.

  42. Worky,

Not being funny like put Andy Cole’s game didn’t have a great deal of depth imo.

Goals are the name of the game.

There seems to be a common thought these days that strikers need to do everything BUT score goals! 10 league goals seems to be exceptable nowadays. Totally wrong for me.

    Goals, goals goals!

  43. Aye alreet Batty boy?

By the way, I have heard a rumour that the Beckford deal as been agreed. A fee that could rise to £2m.

Don’t be suprised if he doesn’t play on Saturday for Leeds.

  44. worky i see your getting some hits now m8 keep up the great work oh and can u ban komfort

    “Worky,

Not being funny like put Andy Cole’s game didn’t have a great deal of depth imo.”

Aye, but Beckford may be more like Chopra, Zamora and Harewood than Andy Goal. Zamora hasn’t been too bad recently though mind, and he was better than Beckford in the same leagues.

  46. cheers batty m8 ??…

…er stupot you dont want to get to excited about silly little rumours now do you!

  47. Jerome Rothen is currently on loan at Rangers from PSG so i doubt anything would be happening with him like.

  48. Batty,

Aye ya right, but all Cole was, was a finisher clear and simple. No frills.

    Worky,

We signed Cole from a lower league didn’t we? Bristol City? Gotta be worth a shot for the Championship at least. I don’t think the standard is too different.

    Komfort,

This guy is a journo and he has just text me. It’s just what he’s been told.

    We shall see.

  49. @
    workyticket

Yeah that’s what i thought too….he is very poor though by now..wouldn’t mind getting him on a free or loan though… That would allow us to play Jonas on the right where he can cut inside and maybe score a few goals…

  50. I heard someone say on another Blog and im pretty sure it was a Leeds Fan, that they reckon that if Lovenkrands was in the same Leeds team he would have scored as many. I tend to think the same but he wont get a regular starting place.

  51. is he a cole or trundle ? send a stamped address evolope with a fiver in it hang on ile just get the address off komfort

  52. doocey dont know how u can bet on the toon and jinks them  even though i stand to make a prophit of 1350 if we win the championship

  53. Batty Boy, I’ll send you a fiver mate, nee bother!

    What’s the address?

I think he’ll be going some to be a Cole but I’d take a Robert Earnshaw type return in this division for the moment and we’ll worry about the Prem if we get there.

  54. batty’s address ? ..it’s the sally bash , but there could be a fowarding address to…under the arches.

    …neet neet

  55. doocey dont know how u can bet on the toon and jinks them even though i stand to make a prophit of 1350 if we win the championship

    —-

Very nice, how much did you bet on them in the frist place.
    £500 or something? :D

  56. batty – by the way, not sure if I mentioned it but…

Not a big betting man but stuck a tenner on Nolan against Boro at inflated odds for a free £20 bet.

But the £20 on a treble at the weekend and it came in.

First and last bet for a few years :)

  58. Alright Lads-that goal.com rumour is all over newsnow-anything official yet?
Off to kips hopefully have him nailed to the Mast the morra :)

  59. Ah right, good stuff Batty.

Tis an awful habit, but if have discipline then you’ll go places.

I often do a £1 Accumulator on 10 teams that give about 125/1.

Good craic & won’t break the bank :)

  60. Nothing official yet, just CH saying he likes the lad and is waiting to hear if the offer is accepted, don’t want rothen though, if he’s crap in scotland he’ll be worse in the championship.

My brother’s friend nearly won £66,000 on an accumululator like that, but but the bastard went tits up right at the end. That started with a small stake, it wasn’t a quid though.

  62. worky-similar situation. My best mate had a quid accumulator on and was looking at around 35k. Every team he had was winning up until something like the 86th min where an equaliser was scored. We were sitting infront of SSN at my bit like he’d done it. should have seen the look on his face, he was devastated.

Aye Ross, sounds just like what they were telling me. My brother’s had me doing things like checking Angola’s away form and stuff like that for him now.
