Sheff Wed v Newcastle – match banter!

Owld acquaintance?
Owld acquaintance?
Following on from the previous games threads, I thought it would be a good idea to put up another article for the Sheff Wed game, that you can just use for the match banter. Yours truly won’t be in attendance but I’ve got the option of Sky Sports, with leftover Christmas dinner and a few cheeky beers but not all Toon fans are lucky enough to be there or have access to Sky.

So if anyone can find radio, video links etc to the game for people who don’t have it, I’m sure that would be appreciated. As ever, this can be the place to come together during the match and p*ss and moan, as we usually do. Squad news is on the preview article but hopefully we’ll get line-ups on here before the start.

As already mentioned in the preview, Boxing Day is notoriously bad if you’re a Toon fan, and we last won away from home on Boxing Day in 1988, ironically down at Hillsborough. The form guide points to a fairly straightforward three points for the Mags, but of course in front of the Sky cameras and an inflated Boxing Day crowd, we’re just as likely to trip ourselves up. At least, I don’t need to worry about the difficulty of getting to the game with the bad weather today. Just gotta keep that path to the fridge clear! Two nowt to us and no injuries for the game on Monday, is my prediction. How’s that for optimistic?

Howay the lads!

Team news –

One change to the smogs game. Butt comes in for the injured Alan Smith. Smudger has been a big player for us this season and will be a miss. Let’s hope Nicky Butt takes up where he left and not from his first few touches in the smogs game…

Harper, Simpson, S Taylor, Coloccini, Enrique, Guthrie, Butt, Nolan, Gutierrez, Ameobi, Harewood

Subs – Lovenkrands, R Taylor, Carroll, Krul, Kadar, Ranger, Pancrate

Sheff Wed

Grant, Spurr, Purse, Tudgay, Potter, Beevers, O’Connor, Varney, Simek, Johnson, Soares

Subs – O’Donell, Buxton, Hinds, Jeffers, Esajas, Clarke, Gray

    Any win will do though.
Happy xmas to all the bloggers, cheers to batty the matching his and hers lonsdale shell suits arrived on xmas eve and the hi tec trainers are proper casual.

  2. we never play at home on boxing day.. .cant remember the last time… come to think of it, cant remember the last time we won on boxing day either!

we’ll break that duck today tho, bet my bottom dollar

  3. We have to go for the jugular early.

Keep a high tempo from the off and have a right go at them… And no sitting back if/when we score like we have done recently. Need to keep it going for the full 90 mins. We are yet to give a team a proper hiding this season, why not start now?!

Cheers for the links for the match, I’m stuck at work today… Boooo! :o(

  4. Wednesday have lost their last 5 games – but it still will not be easy. I’ll be happy with 3 points – however we can get them – but it’s also possible we can blow Sheffield away, if we start like the proverbial steam train.
I’ll be delighted with 6 points from our last 2 games of the year – that’s the only thing that matters right now – Howay The Lads!!

  5. @Jay Jay

No mate. Ipswich were utter shite. I mean to really make a statement. We could have put 10 past them that day but once again we took our foot off the pedal. Same happened against Swansea, 3-0 up after 28 mins then slowed down and let them play a bit…

  6. No Smudger – not being risked. Butt instead – otherwise the same team that started against the Smogs.

  7. im fan nufc nem carabay somali boy Great man sir bobb robson manager nufc 1999 sheff wed 8 0 frist game Thanks Sir Bob i had the privelige to witness your fine work. i was so digusted when a certain geordie sacked you may he hang his head in shame forever god bless you. You were and still are a Legend

  8. 4-0 the toon , would of liked Guthrie in the middle instead of Butt with Pancrate or R taylor out wide . still think we will roll them over though .

  9. happey xmas ufc today game nufc vs sheff wed 8 0 win nufc 1999 nufc manager sir bobb robson today nufc manager Hughton

  10. Damn…were a few steps slow…gonna be one of those days…..we will still win this though…

  11. What are we doing the day like?…18 minutes in and they’ve been all over us like a rash, we’ve barely been out our own box nevermind our half like. The defending for their goal was shocking and every time the ball gets hoisted into the box we just stand and look at it hoping the other will do the dirty work.

As i type this, Nolan finishes a lovely header to make it 1-1 but that is lucky like. Wake up now and take control of the F***king game.

  12. Wonder Kev !!!!! That’s it ..let’s put them away….they are punching way above their weight in these starting minutes..

  13. Shola was also a country mile offside, haha. Shocking from the linesman!. Bugger it though, we’ve been poor and we’re 2-1 up, starting to relaxe and improve now but they’re still closing us down quickly in our final third and we seem to panic a little at times. How many goals has Nolan got now this season?..Canny finish from Shola but i cant believe how the linesman hasnt flagged that, lol.

  14. geordie deb hope you had an nice xmas day, I just hope we dont sit back now and invite them to attack. But we normally do that when were the 1st to score, usually we seem to keep the guns blazeing when we comeback from getting beat.

  15. Wouldn’t have been too happy about Shola’s goal if I were Wednesday fan like. But we’ll take them all thesame.

  16. Well if you sit back you get what you deserve.

Although I don’t think we can complain against the decision considering Shola’s goal.

  17. Truly diabolical start to the second half. We may be flying high at the moment but we are still an awful team. Both Taylor and Colocinni just stood there for their laughable equaliser. Really need to step it up 4 gears.

  18. I see Pancrate is on for Jonas, I didn’t realise Jonas was playing.

Were lucky were playing Derby on Monday as their really bad away from home.

  19. This is painful, how are we being outplayed by a shit championship side. Great stop by Harper though.

  20. Good boy Harper….but we have to gather ourselves here…..

PS: Nicky Butt is just an absolute tosser….can’t wait for he’s contract to run out all ready.

  21. Shola’s tired, I’d have Carrol on now.

This is typical, the stats were pointing to a Newcastle win so it’s always likely we wouldn’t win.

I have a feeling we won’t be winning today, though N \Forest only drew so a point won’t be that bad.

  22. I dont think we deserved the win today we just never really got stuck in but I do think we should be sailing past teams in the bottom half

  23. Harewood and Pancrate are absolute shite! Disgrace how Guthrie is being picked ahead of Ryan Taylor at right mid too.

Team for derby (Are best team)

  24. Cardiff losing, Forrest drew so it’s not been too bad.

They do say if you win at home and draw away you will get promoted.

We need to win Monday now though.

  25. Mondays team
Give Joey twenty minutes for Smith
and Carroll or Ranger some time if we are leading.
It really stands out the fact we badly lack anyone with creative skills to fill the attacking forward role, sure Nolan can score but he is not exactly creative in the sense he can set up and lay on the killer pass.
About the closest we have is Barton (so far a sick note and nutter), may be something to consider if we intend to enter the market this window.
Wonder how Mancini feels about Stephen Ireland, will he stay or will he go ? Ah! just a pipe dream.

  26. Big thank you to everyone who posted a link to the game. I had been searching for 15 mins with no luck until I read your posts. Much appreciated. If you can do it again for the Derby game that would be great. Cheers, Jilly Bean
