Perch's masive payday.A rather interesting revelation has surfaced regarding our new recruit, James Perch, and particularly regarding the state of play with his wages at Newcastle United.
Perch sign a four-year contract at the start of the week and on the surface it looked like a decent deal. We got a player who can play in a number of different positions for what should have been a knock price, including the salary.
That was until Nottinham Forest chief Mark Arthur revealed that Newcastle United had offered to quadruple the wages the player was earning at the City Ground, and how it would be unfair on Perch if Forest stopped him from earning a much higher salary elsewhere, although the reported £1.2 million fee would have no doubt helped incite this sudden bout of goodwill. Perch: Caught, hook, line and sinker?Breaking news regarding Newcastle United as it has been revealed that a fee has been agreed between clubs for Nottingham Forest utitlity man James Perch.
Details are sketchy at the minute although a fee of around £1 million has been mentioned for a player who will add to the numbers within our squad.
Perch impressed against Newcastle at St James’ Park back in March when Nottingham Forest came to toon, and that came after we were linked with the player back in January.
You can keep on top of the situation here as it develops and more details become available, but it certainly seems that Newcastle are starting to make moves in the transfer market. (more…)
All we care about is NUFC.Level 7 was undoubtedly in fine voice last night as the natives played their own part in Newcastle’s crucial victory over promotion hopefuls, Nottingham Forest. By the time Jose Enrique scored to make it 2-0, the appropriate volume which would have been fitting for such an occasion deserted me. I was so hoarse it came out as a whisper.
Each new ditty seemed to spread further and further round the ground, and when the last goal went in, the roof lifted off to ‘Jose’ ringing around the ground. And yet one song which has become less and less popular in recent weeks is the ‘Get out of our club’ song aimed squarely at our much-maligned owner, one Mike Ashley. This isn’t yet another excuse to dredge up the past because my feeling is that for now, supporters have almost, more or less, accepted an agreement to disagree on the current incumbent. Because not once did I hear the song being aired from my lofty perch, not even a whisper of it. The closest we got was the more neutral ‘All we care about is NUFC’ song. (more…)
Will Hughton land James Perch in his net?A little bit of a transfer news coming out of St James’s Park suggests we could be on the verge of making our first signing of the January transfer window. Nottingham Forest’s James Perch worked under Colin Calderwood during his spell as Forest manager, so no doubt there would have been some recommendation coming from our Scottish assistant manager.
Predominantly a right back, the 24 year old can also play in the center of defence and has covered various positions across the midfield at points in his career. So, a utility player then, although one who is apparently held in high regard by manager Billy Davies, who quickly signed Nick Shorey as temporary cover whilst Perch recovers from a long standing shin problem.
You’ll forgive me for not getting over excited over us being linked with a player who has played the majority of his games in League 1, and perhaps this shows the level of ambition being shown by our current owner!
If it’s a right back we are after so desperately then why don’t we pull out all the stops to secure Danny Simpson? Fair enough, he didn’t have the best of games last night, but every player has a below-par game once in a while and Simpson has been largely excellent during his time with The Toon. Manager Chris Hughton is still confident of landing the Salford lad in a £500,000 deal, with fresh talks scheduled today. Hughton said: (more…)
Crucial goalWell what a miserable bloody night…..stuck in a pub where I could only just about see and hear the game in the first half and where the locals seem to treat the bar as a place to lounge rather than a place to buy a drink. I was already hacked off before the game kicked off. And of course my mood didn’t improve with the events that followed.
The law of averages suggested that our luck was due to run out sooner or later again, and that when playing badly, some team at some point would take advantage. That team was Nottingham Forest. Of course it didn’t help that our, surprisingly, solid defensive start to the season was shattered with the news that both Steven Taylor and Coloccini would be missing. Really, of all the recent admissions I’ve made over things I’ve said which I never thought I’d say, to say that I never thought we’d miss Colo is right up there with the corkers……
But it’s a fact, he’s settled in a unit and has looked half decent at this level so missing both him and the combative Taylor was sure to spell trouble. Particularly when Forest came into this game with some decent form and two strikers proving to be a handful. However that aside, staying with the word ‘average’, does the whole set-up still not smack of something distinctly average? (more…)
