Joe Kinnear’s latest interview video on Gomis, Bent, Remi etc…

August 4th, 2013 | 13 Comments |

Joe Kinnear gives his latest interview to Sky Sports after his latest charity cricket match with a Bunbury 11.

In it he gives the latest news on his quests for Loic Remy, Bafetimbi Gomis and Darren Bent, along with a bit of insight into his general thinking towards the end.

He wasn’t brave enough to have a crack at saying “Bafetimbi” yet, but he’s still referring to Newcastle United’s top striker as “See-See.” (more…)

The number 9 Newcastle United really missed out on?

September 4th, 2011 | 12 Comments |

Cissé at Metz – 2008/9.

In all the numerous striker targets Newcastle United were linked with and failed to “get over the line”, one name seemed to be something of an afterthought, though according to his current club, German Bundeliga side, Freiburg, Newcastle United actually did made a late bid for Papiss Demba Cissé which was refused.

Newcastle were reported to have bid around £7 million for Demba Ba’s 26 year old Senegalese striking teammate, though there didn’t seem to be any official confirmation of the amount, just that a bid was made. One thing which is certain though, he is worth quite a bit more than £7 million and his current contract contains a release clause of around £14 million. Though such release clauses, which are quite common on the mainland of Europe, are usually inflated in terms of the players real value, in this case it isn’t. (more…)

Jonathan Legear linked with Newcastle, again.

Sharp hairstyle there mate......
Sharp hairstyle there mate......
It was perhaps inevitable that the rumour-mill would start creaking into life, especially given the fact that we are now under two months away from the transfer window reopening for business.

There have been a few names linked over the last few weeks, but one name that keeps popping up is Jonathan Legear, currently of Anderlecht in Belgium.

Legear is predominantly a right-sided midfielder but he does have the abiliy to play up front, aswell as possesing a fair amount of pace. He is 23-years old and has scored 14 goals in 99 appearances for the current Belgian league champions, although in fairness he has only really started to figure on a more consistent basis over the last two and a bit seasons.

Those of you who read regularly will know that I, personally, don’t really believe any speculation, but I still like to cover the various names that we are linked with from time to time, hence the reason for this article.

Check out Legear in action. (more…)

Jamie O’Hara kicks off Toon transfer rumours.

Jamie O'Hara in black and white?
Jamie O'Hara in black and white?
And so it begins. In anticipation of what many people percieve as automatic promotion the press have decided to set the wheel of their transfer rumour moving decidedly early this year. Already we are being linked with a few names that apparently we would be chasing should our promotion be ensured.

Top of our summer shopping list appears to be Tottenham’s higly rated midfielder, Jamie O’Hara. The lad is currently on loan at crisis club Portsmouth, and has been one of their shining lights in what has turned out to be a disastrous season on and off the pitch for the south coast club.

We were linked with a loan deal for O’Hara a couple weeks back, with the word being that should Portsmouth’s adiministrator decide to cull the wage bill and send O’Hara back to Tottenham then we would be first in line with another loan deal for the left-footed midfielder.

Manager, Chris Hughton, knows all about O’Hara. Our level-headed leader was one of the key figures in Jamie O’Hara’s youth development at White Hart Lane and apparently the two of them get on quite well. It is thought it would take around £3 million to prize O’Hara away from Spurs, maybe more as their manager Harry Redknapp holds him in high regard and has recently given him a 4 year contract. Hughton has testing times ahead [updated]

Big tests ahead
Big tests ahead
New Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton hopes to get at least some of Mike Ashley’s £20m cash injection to spend on players.

Amidst Mike Ashley’s popular announcement that he would be inflicting himself upon Toon fans for another season and a half, there was also the news that he’s putting another £20m of his own money into the club. Ashley didn’t actually say where the £20m would be spent but it is speculated that the money would go towards new players and improving the scouting network.

Apparently Hughton – after talks with Ashley and Llambias – is already drawing up a list of targets for the January transfer window, although he was keen to just concentrate on our upcoming games for the moment. Hughton said:

The most important thing first and foremost is that we have to work with what we have.

We can’t bring in anybody until January other than loans.

I’ll identify what I think we need when that time comes, but the most important thing is getting the results in the games before then.

There are two remits really – the here and now, and then what happens when the window opens when we’ll sit down and look at it then.” (more…)
