Fancy a Brazilian?Don’t worry, I’m not going all namby-pamby on you all by discussing the merits of a certain under-beard style, you perverts. I am instead referring to a certain Brazilian footballer that Newcastle are apparently on the trail of.
Former West Ham striker, Ilan, was surprisingly released by The Hammers after playing quite a large role in their ultimately successful fight for Premier League survival last season, and Newcastle are apparently poised to swoop. The source for this little nugget of information is none other than Sky, so you can make your own minds up on just how much credibilty it deserves, although as the player is available for nothing then you would have to say that Sky have at least got the transfer value near enough spot on! Ilan netted four goals in eleven appearances last term, and a few of those appearances were from the bench, so that isn’t a bad record in all honesty. (more…)
£8 million, because he's worth it?Jamie O’Hara is a name that has been linked with a move to us numerous times over the last few months, and the genreal concensus is that he would be a great buy.
Now it seems his days at Tottingham Hotspuds are numbered as their sack-faced boss, Harry Redknapp has said the player is free to leave White Hart Lane and look for first team football elsewhere. I say free, but it isn’t meant literally as Redknapp has reportedly slapped an £8 million price tag on the midfielder, which is far too high in my opinion.
There have been reports of a rift between Redknapp and O’Hara after the player said he would like Tottenham to lose in the FA Cup semi-final so he could play in the final with his loan club Portsmouth, so maybe that rift could be used as a bargaining tool? There would certainly need to be some bargaining if we ever were to sign him, as that price is way out of our price range and Spurs nearly always get good deals for their outgoing players. (more…)
Defensive cover?Well, it’s the weekend, which obviously means the papers crank up the printing press and churn out that little bit more speculation and gossip.
In spite of that though, it is actually pretty quiet on the Newcastle transfer speculation front today, which is surprising and not what I want to see when I wake up on a Saturday morning.
Ultimately this time of the year always leads to speculation from fans across the country. It’s a little bit different this year due to the World Cup, but the focus of fans of clubs across the country remains on their respective clubs for the time being. One new link today has been regarding Chelsea player Slobodan Rajkovic. The controversial defender has been on loan for three seasons and has spent the majority of that time in Holland, with the pinnacle so far being a league winners medal won last season with Steve McClaren’s FC Twente. Viva Espana?....... Nah.Only three days ago, Newcastle United recieved the Championship trophy in front of a packed out St James’ Park. For those unaware of what it is, the Championship is the the league below the Premier League.
Things are very different down in this league, and I would hope that the experience of the Championship will make us more mindful as fans with regards to just what other teams face in this division, particularly relegated teams who are used to stories in the media and TV coverage on pretty much a weekly basis, there isn’t much of that down here. Far too many times over the years I have picked up a newspaper only to see Newcastle United involved another scandal or linked with another star. You soon learn to ignore them and disregard them as rubbish. It’s been different this season though, and whether it is through our actions as a club to reduce the amount of headlines generated, or through lack of media interest in anything other than the Premier League or any other combination of reasons, I have been happy that we have been allowed to just get on with the job without being the targets of media frenzy.
