Sigmund DalglishKenny Dalglish turns to psychiatry to tell Newcastle United fans what they think about Andy Carroll.
Apparently there’s a royal wedding today. When I heard about it I assumed Cheryl Tweedy was getting hitched again but apparently it’s to do with a couple called Kate and Will. Anyway, it seems my invite was lost in the post so I thought I’d write an article on here instead.
Kenny ‘Sourpuss’ Dalglish has been telling us Toon supporters what we think of Andy Carroll ahead of Sunday’s game, so we’d better jolly well listen.
Kenny instructs us thusly:
“They [that’s us] will do whatever they want, but it won’t take away from what he has done for their football club and it won’t take away what the football club meant to Andy.
“It is a compliment really, in a strange way, if you do get abuse because it means you must have been important to them.”
So any boos for Andy Carroll will actually be translated as “we love you” according to Kenny. I wonder from which Internet site Kenny got his degree in psychiatry. (more…)
Potential Toon target?Newcastle United titbits: Ireland crocked, Barton of interest to Liverpool and a striker from South Korea.
No doubt you’ve all heard that Stephen Ireland is crocked for the rest of the season with an ankle injury. That, and the fact that he’s only made two substitute appearances for Newcastle, might mean he’s crocked as far as his future at our club is concerned too.
Alternatively, if Pardew is still keen on Ireland and thinks his spate of injuries is only temporary, it might allow the club to offer a fee somewhat under the player’s market value to take him off Villa’s hands.
In my post yesterday I said that I expected Joey Barton to sign a new contract for Newcastle this summer. However, since then – and in a move simply designed to make me look daft – Kenny Dalglish is apparently mulling over the idea of making a £5m bid for Barton. So now I’m not so sure about Barton’s Toon future. I’d like to think he’d sign for us out of some sense of loyalty, but Liverpool might be a tempting proposition for the player. (more…)
Realistic? Or pie in the sky?Shola Ameobi urges Newcastle United to push for a Champions League place in coming seasons.
Shola has been talking positively about our chances of Champions League football in the coming seasons. He believes that’s what we should strive for and that, if we think positive and push on, we can indeed achieve that.
Shola said:
“There’s no better feeling then hearing the Champions League music and lining up in a black and white shirt – why not strive for the top?
“If you aren’t striving to get back to the top then why are you here?
“As a player you want to play in the biggest competitions.
“It was a great period in Newcastle’s history, and certainly the highlight in my career.
“Playing top teams in Europe is something you cherish.
“Being a young lad at the time I took it for granted that we would be in it every year after that, which you just can’t do.
“But you can strive to get back to it and strive to be better as a player and a club.
“If you aren’t striving to get back to the top then why are you here?
“As hard as it might be, we have to think positive, and one day in the not too distant future we can get back.” (more…)
The moustachio was a mistakeJoey Barton wants to pledge his future to Newcastle United, allegedly. Enrique is more of an enigma, but what about our triplet of talented keepers?
The summer will be interesting in many respects for Newcastle United, not least to see who leaves the club and who comes in. However, if the recent comments of a ‘source close to Joey’ are anything to go by, Joey Barton won’t be one of the leavers.
“Joey wants to stay at Newcastle because he is happy here.
“He may be opinionated at times, but he hasn’t forgotten what Newcastle did for him during his time at the club, and he’s got a lot of respect for all of the staff there, from the manager down.
“There has been talk that he was ready to quit the club, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
“His main priority is to stay here – and always has been.
“Joey has got a great rapport with the Newcastle fans who obviously appreciate his efforts on the pitch, and he wants that relationship to continue.”
Of course a ‘source close to Joey’ could be his cat for all we know but I do tend to think that he wants to stay at Newcastle. No doubt Ashley will want to reduce his wages but if it isn’t to an insulting level then, personally, I’d expect him to be lining up in black and white next season despite alleged interest in the player from Hamburg and despite the fact the club failed to get him on a new contract in January. Gameiro - Toon target?Rumours abound, particularly when it comes to Newcastle United transfer speculation. Here’s a roundup of the some of the weekend’s nonsense.
Most transfer news is complete tosh. Occasionally a journalist might pick up a genuine lead and report some transfer news that’s truth, but it can easily get lost in the plethora of tosh that’s made up to sell papers.
Essentially we haven’t a clue, which is my default position on all of life so it doesn’t unduly bother me. I rarely have a clue what I’m doing, which I put down to macroscopic quantum effects but my wife puts down to me simply being a buffoon.
Take your pick.
All of which is a warning that this morning’s missive should be treated as pure speculation as I’m going to report some alleged ‘transfer news’.
Enrique/Spearing
Amidst all the tosh, I reckon one nugget of truth is that Jose Enrique won’t be a Newcastle United player come the end of the summer. That’s just my opinion of course. However the latest press speculation (from The Express) reckons that Kenny ‘Sourpuss’ Dalglish is keen to hijack AC Milan’s potential interest in Jose and take him to Liverpool instead. (more…)
