Tottenham take on The Toon.
Tottenham take on The Toon.
Venue: White Hart Lane.
Date: Saturday 11th Feb, 2012.
Kick-off: 5.30pm.
Referee: Andre Marriner.

Good afternoon Geordies (or should that be good evening?) and welcome to our regular “match banter” feature.

Today of course we face Tottenham Hotspur away at White Hart Lane. If you read my match preview you will see from the stats alone that this should be a very tough proposition for the Magpies despite the Tottenham manager’s recent “distractions.” However, Spurs’ drab 0-0 stalemate against Liverpool may give cause for both hope and despair. Whilst they seemed to lack their usual potency upfront, they certainly kept things tight at the back, but we’ll see.

As usual, i will try to post the team sheets for the game below as quickly as I can once they become available.

This game will be broadcast in the UK on ESPN. (more…)

Newcastle United vs Aston Villa match banter!

Newcastle United v Aston Villa.
The Magpies welcome the Villans this afternoon.
Venue: St James’Park, NE1.
Date: 5th February 2012
Kick Off: 1.30pm
Referee: Mark Halsey.

Good afternoon Geordies and welcome to our regular “match banter” feature for this afternoon’s early kick-off against Aston Villa at St James’ Park.

Despite being a fair sized Premiership team, unlike Newcastle United they tend to pass under the radar of most due to being incredibly dull and boring, especially under their current manager, the dull and boring Alex McLeish. However, as quite a few Toon fans who were there when we were relegated at Villa Park in 2009 will testify, some of their supporters can be a nasty lot sometimes.

Some of us will not forget their taunting chants and thoughtfully prepared banners, to be displayed in the case of us being relegated on that fateful day (see photos below). On the rare occaisions they’ve come on this site, they’ve also been spoiling for a fight for some bizarre reason too. It certainly isn’t a Birmingham thing though. When supporters of their neighbours and rivals, Birmingham City, come on here they have been the exact opposite, and have quite possibly been the nicest “visitors” we’ve had on here, so much so that I was almost delighted when they got St. Christopher as ther manager at St. Andrews. But I digress. (more…)

Blackburn Rovers vs Newcastle United match banter

Blackburn vs Newcastle United.
2-1 to us so far this season.
Venue: Ewood Park, Blackburn
Date: 1st February 2012
Kick Off: 8.00pm
Referee: Phil Dowd.

Good evening Geordies and welcome to our regular “match banter” feature.

This evening sees us facing Blackburn Rovers for the fourth time this season, with the record so far being two wins to one in our favour, their one victory being in the League Cup with our two coming in the League and the FA. Cup respectively.

Despite being a troubled club with highly embittered fans, the Lancashire team come into this game on the back of two very creditable results, a 3-1 home win over our recent destroyers, Fulham, and a 1-1 away draw against Everton. So, I wouldn’t put too much store by our respective league positions. Though Blackburn are still bogged down in the relegation zone, currently they are third from bottom and making a good fist of fighting their way out, rather than languishing right at the very bottom for fairly long periods as was the case earlier in the season. On the other side of course we had an excellent start to the season, though our more recent form has been a little “hit and miss” of late. (more…)

Seagulls and Magpies – Brighton vs Newcastle United FA Cup match banter!

Brighton v Newcastle United in the FA Cup.
Seagulls and Magpies battle for cup glory!
This afternoon sees Newcastle United cruising down to the UK’s “LGBT” (Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Transgendered) capital, Brighton.

However I shall reftain from indulging in the practically limitless opportunities for cheap, tacky innuendo about Poyet’s men getting Newcastle United “round the back” and giving them a good pounding and so on… Instead I will just rise above all that, behave myself abd concentrate on telling you that for an in depth look forward to this FA Cup clash, you can do far worse than checking out UTD111’s excellent preview of the game, which has all the team news, pre match gossip and lots of other stuff too. I will also be publishing the official teamsheets for the game below when they become available. If I may borrow a little from the preview mentioned above, here’s what Alan Pardew and Gus Poyet have been saying about the forthcoming game: (more…)

Fulham vs Newcastle United match banter!

Fulham v Newcastle United.
Shamone!
Venue: Craven Cottage, London.
Date:: Sat 21st Jan, 2011.
Kick-Off: 3:00 pm.
Referee: Lee Mason (Lancs).

Good afternoon Geordies and welcome to our regular “match banter” feature for today’s away visit to Craven Cottage, the home of “Cottagers” of Fulham.

As usual, if you’re looking for a detailed look forward to the game, I would suggest checking out UTD111’s excellent preview with team news, quotes and stats with all the usual gossip and speculation in the run up to the game, which hopefully will make up for my rather brief banter post this time.

As well as seeing the game, the faithful who will be making the trip down to London today will also be able to visit the wonderful monument to the “King of Pop” at Craven Cottage, which is in my honest opinion is worth the trip alone.

I shall be putting up the official teamsheets for the game below when they are available. (more…)
