Fulham v Newcastle United.
Shamone!
Venue: Craven Cottage, London.
Date:: Sat 21st Jan, 2011.
Kick-Off: 3:00 pm.
Referee: Lee Mason (Lancs).

Good afternoon Geordies and welcome to our regular “match banter” feature for today’s away visit to Craven Cottage, the home of “Cottagers” of Fulham.

As usual, if you’re looking for a detailed look forward to the game, I would suggest checking out UTD111’s excellent preview with team news, quotes and stats with all the usual gossip and speculation in the run up to the game, which hopefully will make up for my rather brief banter post this time.

As well as seeing the game, the faithful who will be making the trip down to London today will also be able to visit the wonderful monument to the “King of Pop” at Craven Cottage, which is in my honest opinion is worth the trip alone.

I shall be putting up the official teamsheets for the game below when they are available.

Historical fact of the day: It was Bobby Robson who discovered a young Malcolm MacDonald during his ill fated first mangement spell at Fulham. He bought the then full back from Tonbridge Angels for £1000, then told him to get up the front and bang some in!

Howay the Lads!

  2. It would be great to get 3 points today. I know we don’t usually we don’t fare to well at the Cottage and Fulham have a decent home record of late but I would love it if we beat them….

  3. Perhaps Ben Arfa has given in about playing on the RW now? I think Shola is due a goal now too.

“Perhaps Ben Arfa has given in about playing on the RW now?”

When did he say that he didn’t like playing on the right wing Phisix?

“Thought I saw somewhere that Harps damaged an ankle in training?”

I haven’t seen anything anywhere UTD111. I think he’s persona non grata now.

  6. I can’t believe how wrong that sculptor got that statue of Johnny Haynes.

Think AP has gone for the outscoring them approach today, should be ok as long (as many have already said) HBA and Shola work to back up the defence.

    3-1 to us.

  7. I just it was general knowledge that he prefered to play in the no 10 role behind the striker?

  8. Historical fact of the day:

It was Bobby Robson who discovered Supermac at Fulham and told him to get up to the front.

I may just put that in the post above.

  9. Worky
The news about Harps was on NUFC.COM

“Rob Elliot continues as goalkeeping cover in the absence of Steve Harper, who reported swelling around his knee after a recent training session.”

  10. Thicko Paul Merson has just said we are “punching above our weight”

What a buffoon that bloke is! He’s still calling our skipper “Cudiccini” even though he’s been put right a few times in the last 12 months!!!

“@17 Fulham signed MacDonald as a RB”

Aye, well you should know Supermac! ;-)

I put it in the post at the top, he was £1000. Bobby didn’t last long in his first job, he didn’t get off to a great start. Still, you orbably know all that already.

  12. Lets hope it continues now. AJ is the only one to worry about with his pace like Santon just found out.

  13. That was one of the best halfs I seen us play recently. Totally dominant.

What position is Jonas playing as he is all over the park and looking really good in the middle alongside Ben Arfa who is also looking really good.

    Great goal by Guthrie.

  14. Nah, Santon has been class. He took one for the team there due to Colo and Willo being to far up front.

  15. Yeah, no changes,we are near to close the game.Maybe a little bit more movement from Shola .

  16. we gave them too much place in the middle for 5 mins and that was enough to receive one.
Fulham are one of these shit teams which play different every game.Won’t be surprised if they score again.F****** lucky team .I’ve watched that million times at this stadium

  17. ye, they look solid, but why the hell the ref should change the game? I think at first he showed outside the box and then??

“ye, they look solid, but why the hell the ref should change the game? I think at first he showed outside the box and then??”

But as I wrote above old boy, we should have only have ten on there, and possibly nine now with that Krul thing just that just happened.

  19. i don’t think we need a new defender or some concrete add.I think we need a new philosophy when we are playing away from home. The same old song. Seriously we are the only one who can do 0-1, 4-1 for 20 mins.

  20. I feel like crying I really do. How can we go on to dominate and then to this. SHola still on…

  21. Pardew has no plan B it seems then. Keeps that retard Shola on who does NOTHING! Sooner Ba and Cisse are back the better as he is past it.

  22. What an absolute shocking performance!!! im a coach of a team that would have out performed the toon today!! How Frikkin embarrassing!!!! we need to sort our back line out!! Simpson and Willo are only good as cover in my opinion we need to strengthen massively if the dream of European football is a reality !! we would be a laughing stock!!

FFS come on Fatty Cashley sort it out!

  23. Dunno what’s worse… Shola still on after 75 minutes, or the fact Shola looked knackered after half hour.

  24. pretty bad switched off pinning our hopes on two strikers to come back really does say a lot without our key newcastle dont have the fire power and look a different side :(

  25. why does pardew use shola he’s dun F all all game! arghh!!! im getting pissed sometime soon i think ^^

  26. workyticket says
“Pardew was absolutely spot on about Ben Arfa not being a winger”

Pardew just doesn’t understand the football. (Shola stays on, Best out, Perch in??), but that’s not enough- see the next game- i’m sure Shola starts again and still without new quality defender.

  27. This is like watching Sunday league. Seriously. A toe punt up field and our back line can’t cope. Shocking.

Pardew simply has no idea when things are not going well. Always 4-4-2, and he’ll probably blame this one on Ben Arfa’s work rate, not the fact his tactics should have changed the moment AJ came on, and the high line of the defence was suicidal.

  28. Shola is for Championship, no making joke.Never seen more ineffective PL forward. I gotta pray God to see him scoring.

  29. Blackburn did the business with 10 men. I genuinely think w/o that penalty we would have held a 1-0. We we’re lucky with santon staying on, but i think the krul yellow was correct as the way the ball was going away. Cisse thinking “what have I done?”

  30. the highline has worked all season so dont think it would change this game take into consideration fulham pumping it forward and the introduction of Johnson and his possession and knockdowns they looked a different side

  31. Depressing. We need a fast CB, never play Shola again and Pardew needs to learn tactics. Not happy at all.

  32. Maze,
if we ever equalize with 10 men, i will not believe my eyes.Seriously. That has not happened for years. We aren’t just this team anymore. There are no player for such thing

  33. This is what QPR could have done to us at the start of the season, and last week if they had a players who could finish.

In retrospect we should have scored three first half, but it doesn’t help when you have a donut up front.

“Other results have been kind to us today.”

Liverpool will have to draw with Bolton later to overtake us, so we’re pretty safe for the moment.

  35. Its an absolute disgrace man!! we bossed the 1st half. Iam not suprised atall that we could not close the game out with our two f****** shitty strikers in besty and shola. we will not score more than 2 goals in a game with them to losers upfront but when we do score 2 goals in a game (like today) they will not be the ones doing the finishing. Reaults were kind to us today yet AGAIN we cant take advantage. ive never felt this upset about a defeat since the mackems 2-1 over us at SJP, thats how bad i rate this..

ITS ALWAYS 1 STEP FORWARD 2 STEPS BACK WHEN PLAYING THE SHITTY TEAMS!!!

  36. It’s not about one game or one draw, Worky. It’s about the same match we will see against Blackburn probably. No face away from SJP.

  37. No matter anyway! Senegal kick off at 9pm UK time, can just pretend Ba is in black and white.

I thought we we’re very good first half, and most would probably agree. The penalty completley changed the game.

Aye but Fulham were awful in that half maze.

“It’s not about one game or one draw, Worky.”

old boy, I’m the last person to go on one or two results, and I’ve been very unpopular for it in the past.

  41. I reckon if darlington come in with a £2.75p bid for shola. we should accept WHY is that bloke still wearing a toon top after all these years f**k his loyalty. loyalty doesnt bring you goals.

2 games 1 goal (5 all season between them) for our strikers without Ba, i think its time we brought loverman into the fold. what can we lose? even if we go 4411. pardhew honestly cant be convinved with best/shola

  42. there are a few blind people out there!! Pardrew has done an awsome job at Newcastle!! considering the Dross he took over and the Tool he works for!! Have a look at were we are in the league at what stage we are in the season! i dont doubt us for European football next season for once!! WAKE UP Man the manager is Fine!! the Players need booting out and a sheik should buy us up…. Simples!!
Pardrew deserves a medal for what he has done at Newcastle!! and about time he got some fans backing!
Shocking result today… We need to shop well in the market….

  43. Absolutely appauled!!!
The only way that couldve been worse is if Obertan was on the pitch instead of Benny… Shola was terrible, much better impact sub, should never start a game!!!

  44. “Pardrew deserves a medal for what he has done at Newcastle!!”

CH would have done just as good a job as Pardew if he was given a chance!!

  45. @ Phisix @ #67: don’t insult retards!

    Deep breath time.

This result was about a horrible performance in the second half. For better and worse, those were the same players who completely controlled the first half.

AP has still done a great job in terms of results but I think this game largely turned on him being outfoxed by Jol strategically. (Not buying “penalty turned game”-probably an even-up call after ref realized he clearly should have sent off Santon.) When Johnson came on, it was clear that Fulham would send fewer passes over the top and instead try to play Johnson in behind our defenders, especially in the channels, with passes on the floor.

Colo, who had been supporting the midfield aggressively and helping to dominate possession, needed to pinned back at this point. Before, Zamora had been alone up top and had won sweet fa so we could do with Colo getting up the pitch. Why he wasn’t ORDERED to stay home after Johnson came on, and especially after we scored, I have no idea. If he just wouldn’t obey, then Guthrie needed to be told to cover him. That’s two goals (also nearly got Santon dismissed). That’s down to the coaches.

The players, however, were hugely off the pace of the game in the second half. You can’t win a game in a league this good playing 45 minutes. It’s cliche because it’s true. If I were the gaffer, they’d be running a lot in the next training session…

  46. well, I can’t think of owt worth saying (except for wasteing my breath on my weekly rant that these players can’t play 4-4-2 away) so I’ll say nowt.

but we must sign this defender before we play the poney-tailed Carroll again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvEobeNfGcc

(sorry for posting it again but it might help you to forget the match!)

  47. When Pardew gets his tactics wrong we get thumped its part of his making where ever he goes.Okay done great up to now but we need something for us to push on for demba and cisse tiote to come back to.Hopefully we will still be around seventh place but today the way we caved in must send some alarm bells ringing. Why we can never beat Fulham on their patch is always a mystery anyway.Had Swansea down for an away win too what a let down Real Sunderland now they reckon got to put up with that at work tommorow.

  49. Relax. All teams get thumped occasionally. It doesn’t take away all the good results we’ve got this season.

It was only a week or 2 ago that we thumped Man U and we’d won 4 games in a row before this (including the cup game).

The people criticising Alan Pardew deserve the team to get relegated as punishment… We’ve done incredibly well this season. We were tipped by many in the team to be relegated before this season started and yet now we probably have the best team we’ve had in 10 years and all this has been achieved while stabilising the club financially.

With the ammount of debt we had we could have done a Leeds and yet look at us now…..

Of course they don’t Paulos, that’s just silly. How many in the team tippped us to be relegated this season? Do you have any examples?

“With the ammount of debt we had we could have done a Leeds and yet look at us now…..”

Last time I checked the accounts Paulos, we were actually in more debt because we were relegated amongst other things, though that should come down a fair bit by the next set of accounts are released.

  52. Completely agree, Super. Without getting into the deeper nuances, there’s no way you can squeeze a 2-forward formation out of this squad without Ba & Cisse. Might as well play with 10.

  53. this game does not matter too much lads as we have got an easy twelve points from the next four games!
