NUFC Blog on metro.co.ukAs some of you may already know, I am currently the Newcastle United blogger for metro.co.uk, the website for the free newspaper distributed in London and several other major cities throughout the UK.
Anyway, I want to prepare a piece over the next few days for my Metro blog which features the thoughts of my fellow Newcastle United fans about what the coming season might bring for the club, whether it’s about Alan Pardew, how well you think we will do in what remains of the transfer window, where you think we will finish or whatever.
As it won’t be an epic piece overall as it is word limited, so it would be great if you could keep your entries to around 50 words. To give you an idea, the paragraph preceding this one is 58 words, so something slighly shorter would be fine, or about the same about the length if you absolutely must, but definitely nothing over 60 words please. If you don’t have Microsoft Word or something similar with a word counter and can’t be bothered to count the words one by one, you can find an online word counter here. (more…)
Papiss in his new W(r)onga shirt and “Sisse” boots. It seems there’s a grand conspiracy to make me look like a complete arse at the moment.
Just before I finally had my most recent blog, “We’re still in the dark about Cisse and Wongagate” published on metro.co.uk, Cisse came out and spoke for the first time on his war on Wonga, saying:
“It has been a very difficult time for me and the Club, and also for the fans. I have had some useful discussions with my Club, my family and Islamic teachers in the last few weeks. After a huge amount of thought and reflection I have made the decision to follow my teammates and wear the kit.
“Now I think it is important for the team and the fans that we concentrate 100 per cent on football. Although I did not go to Portugal on the training camp, I was back here working hard on my fitness and preparing for the start of the new season. Since then it has been great to be training with my teammates again. I feel great and ready to go, and cannot wait to be out there against St. Mirren on Tuesday and to play my part for the team.”(more…)
Mick Harford – Warned off by Toon fans before he even started?Whilst searching for inspiration yesterday, this piece by Jackie Smithfield in Newcastle United blog The Mag caught my eye. Entitled ‘Newcastle fans help Mick Harford to decide Millwall is better bet’, it bragged of fan power scaring away Harford from his former club before he’d even started, claiming:
‘With an overwhelmingly negative reaction, no doubt Mick Harford has also got on the ‘blower’ to friends and family in the North East to gauge which way the wind is blowing:
‘On this basis, it would be no surprise to see Harford saying thanks but no thanks. Shame his mentor JFK is slightly thicker skinned when it comes to the reaction he produced on his appointment.’
And to put it mildly, I just couldn’t see the wisdom of that. Joe Kinnear might well be thick skinned, but the writer of the above is just thick if he or she thinks a policy of fans attempting to force out anyone Joe Kinnear tries to appoint to enhance the Newcastle United’s scouting before they’ve even started won’t be damaging to the club. NUFC Blog on metro.co.ukThis is just a quick note to let all you regular readers know that I will be blogging for Metro.co.uk on a more regular basis from now on.
They made me an offer a while ago to increase the quantity of my writing on there and I decided to take them up on it.
As well as that, I will also be working on some things around the back of this blog for a while too, along with other stuff before next season starts. This means that I will be blogging less than usual over the next few weeks, but there should be a new, improved blog ready for the coming season.
Since my last message on my activity over on Metro, I also published one more ‘blog on there, another one in my epic series on Alan Pardew’s long balls. Although some of it is a kind of digested version of a longer piece on here, I also added some bonus insights especially for the Metro version. That one is entitled “Newcastle United – still the biggest long ball side in Premier League.” You can read both by following the links above. (more…)
