The Guardian: Even more garbage about NUFC.
The Guardian: Even more garbage about NUFC.
On Tuesday, the Guardian’s Chris Arnot and Chelsea’s ‘Head of Corporate Responsibilty’, Simon Taylor (no relation to the Guardian’s well known Newcastle hater, Louise Taylor incidentally) suggested that there were racist protests at St James’s Park against the signing of Andy Cole in their story “Search for a British Asian football star kicks off“, something which was completely untrue. The offending part of the story went:

“When Andy Cole made his debut at Newcastle’s St James’s Park, Taylor, then a student in the city, recalls: “There were protests outside the ground. But Andy scored a hat-trick that day and we heard no more from the protesters.” (more…)

Magpies modern classics – Newcastle 3-2 Barcelona.

Part four of my look at some of the best games from the modern history of Newcastle United features a Champions League game from September 1997, just before Kenny Dalglish managed to sell off the last of the creative players we had, and yes that was a dig!

It was a match that will live long in the memory of many a Newcastle fan, as arguably the best team in Europe were sent packing back to Spain after losing 3-2 against a side that nobody thought has a chance of winning. (more…)

The year is 1996, the opposition was Manchester United, and after missing out on the title the previous season, Kevin Keegan and his team wanted to prove a point.

That was of course a ten minute clip of one of our greatest memories in recent times. That score sent out a message to our rivals that we were not to be messed with. (more…)

“The Hope of the North” and “The North v South Cup Final”

The first film introduces the Newcastle players taking part in the FA Cup final of 1932, and the second introduces their opponents from the Arsenal team.

There are two more films, a longer one with coverage of the final at Wembley, and one showing the team getting a rousing reception from Geordies upon their return to Tyneside. Finally, there are several more links to newsreels showing silent coverage of Newcastle’s progression in the earlier rounds, with victories over Leicester, Watford and Chelsea respectively. (more…)

Magic Magpie Memories II (FA Cup, 1952).

F.A. Cup semi final replay – Newcastle V. Wolves. (2-1) 1951.

This match was played at Leeds Road, Huddersfield. It’s First blood to The Wolves with a goal from Walker. Then Newcastle strike back with goals from two of the usual suspects, Jackie Milburn and Bobby “Dazzler” Mitchell. The Magpies are through to the FA Cup final! Something that would become a regular event over the next few years.

There are four videos in this sequence, one of Newcastle United in the semi final against Wolverhampton Wanderers, one of the final, one of the lads returning to Newcastle to a hero’s reception with brief speecehes from Joe Harvey and Jackie Milburn. Finally, there is a longer feature taking a more general look at the FA Cup of 1951. (more…)
