Contract woes?Contract woes for Nolan now at Newcastle United?
According to The Mirror, Kevin Nolan is having difficulty getting a new contract out of the club.
He has two years left on his current contract and was supposedly in talks to extend that by at least another two years, however it seems to 28 year-old has been told that there will be no further contract discussions for him until the end of next season.
The Mirror alleges that this now has Nolan reluctantly considering his future with the club.
Now before we get carried away, I should point out that there are no direct quotes in the Mirror’s article and it all comes from ‘sources close to the player’, so it could just as easily be a load of garbage intended to whip up a storm at our club. It wouldn’t be the first time the press have done that.
However, it does seem odd that a few weeks ago we were hearing all sorts of noises about Nolan entering into contract negotiations and then nothing further was heard.
Nolan’s wage bill will no doubt be large and we’re all aware that reducing the wage bill is a long-term aim of the club, but we’re talking about our captain here and a player that umpteen others have come out to praise as being a great influence on them. (more…)
Joey Barton with the good luck 'stacheJoey Barton recently heeded Danny Simpson’s advise and decided to join Twitter. Joey has been known to be quite forward and somewhat outspoken and of course wasted no time pondering whether or not his biggest fans Robbie Savage and Piers Morgan would be as vicious in a logged and public manner. Of course they were and I assure you, it’s great fun bullying Mr. Morgan but after being bombarded with tweets from fans requesting he sign a new contract, Joey broke his relative silence.
Now I’m not in the habit of reporting the usual waste you hear on Twitter but, as they say, this is from the horses mouth.
I tend to be fairly positive and patient in regards to this club primarily because I understand knee jerk reactions don’t help us in the slightest. I like to wait for all the facts before I make a solid judgement and until then try to remain as calm as I can and stay as level headed as is humanly possible… but then something like this happens and that Zen-like state goes out of the window. Nolan: Having second thoughts now? With left back, Jose Enrique stalling on new contract negotiations amidst much speculation on a move to Liverpool, and now the Joey Barton imbroglio over his 2/3/4 year contract extension, could it now be that current captain and leading goalscorer, Kevin Nolan, is the latest to vacillate over his long term future at the club?
Speaking a month ago, Nolan, who’s contract expires in June of 2013, said of the renewal:
“Negotiations are at an advanced stage. Most things have been agreed and I would think I will sign next week or the week after.”
Staying or going?Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton may have some contract issues but Kevin Nolan is keen for him to stay at the club.
I have a stinking cold, which will probably turn into rabies, and I overslept, so I’m not feeling too chatty at the moment. I will therefore simply get down to business and report anything that might be worth reporting.
Rumours abound that there’s a bit of a sticking point with Joey Barton’s new contract, which he has so far refused to sign. This is allegedly over the length of the contract with the club offering two years and Barton wanting four. Pardew said:
“It is up to the player and his agent to settle the deal that’s now on the table.
“Contracts are complicated in terms of how they are paid, tax issues, length. I want Joey to stay.”
That sounds a bit like the club is adopting a take-it-or-leave it approach and I assume they’d therefore be prepared to let Barton go. However, this may just be part and parcel of the negotiation process and some sort of compromise may yet be found.
Barton has previously declared that he’d stay on at Newcastle if fellow midfielder Kevin Nolan stays at the club, so it’s feasible that Joey is waiting to see what happens in that respect. (more…)
Cluck cluck.Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew praises Nolan and expects him to be fit for pre-season. The manager also gives more detail about Harper’s injury.
Now that Kevin Nolan is definitely finished playing for the season, Alan Pardew has taken the opportunity to praise the 12 goal midfielder:
“He brings leadership, technical ability and goals, very importantly, so we’re going to miss him.
“He’s played with this ankle for a while now and not really moaned, he’s just got on with it. But we needed to sort it out to give him a chance for a full pre-season, which will be important for him next year because there’ll be competition here for him and he’ll need to come back as near as dammit.
“It gives him more of a chance, and that’s why we’ve done it. Everyone’s got a little eye on next year, including myself now. We need to know exactly what we’ve got here and we need to increase the competition here.
“People need to step up and I think everybody’s realising that. There will be new players coming in here and competition will be greater.” (more…)
