Report of consortium’s bid to buy Newcastle United with Shearer as manager – but it IS the Daily Mail ;-)

The Daily Mail’s Colin Young is today reporting that a consortium of local businessmen, backed by wealthy Middle Eastern investors are involved in a £90 miliion pound bid for Newcastle United. It goes on to say that the group have already spoken to Alan Shearer, and are “prepared to meet his £3 milllion a year wage demands”. (more…)

Joey Barton: Should he stay? Or should he go?
Joey Barton: Should he stay? Or should he go?
Should he stay or should he go?

OK enough of the song titles….

Joey Barton, where to start? Forget his misdemeanours. Forget his unreliable temperament. Forget how little he’s actually played for us. OK, so that’s pretty difficult. Point being, can we afford to ignore these pressing issues and yet conversely can we afford not to? Is a man we paid dearly for in transfer fees and wages and arguably even more so in damaging publicity, really worth it? Let me begin by saying that once upon time I was a supporter of Mr Barton. I was lured by his obvious intelligence and articulation when speaking. I was accepting of his apparent remorse for past and present misdemeanours. I have since however, in addition to taking a continued disliking to him, decided that this is something we’ll forever make a loss on, one way or another.

Mike Ashley ponders his future at the club.
Mike Ashley ponders his future at the club.
Our financial position is pretty frightening. Our short, medium and long-term future, very much dependent on cleaning up the balance sheets. We are undoubtedly about to start free-fall into the red without some fire-fighting with our numbers.

What can be done about?

Mike Ashley has already severed 120 contracts for support staff around St James. While it is as inevitable as a barf-covered pavement outside Blu Bambu post-midnight on any given Saturday, it is not going to be easy.  Balancing the need to sustain, at the very least, a Championship status against the very real threat of liquidation is something Mike needs to worry about now whether he is able to pass on the reigns or not. He will want to recoup whatever he can, even if damage-limitation on the depreciation of our squad’s value is the most we can expect. (more…)

The Good Ship Toontanic – day 14698.

The Toontanic.
The Toontanic.
Each day I seem to grow more weary yet I hang onto my hope. We are still deep rooted in the doldrums,  without fuel nor wind we can not move, Captain Shearer is full of hope for what might be, but he too wrestles with his imaptience to get things started. We just need a little fuel to get going – he awaits like an expectant father for the fuel to arrive.

However there is still no sign of the new fuel arriving, the passengers and crew are awaitng nervously, we dont yet know what fate has in store for us, yet we all grab at every whisper of optimism that it will be here soon, one more day thats all…. (more…)

Shearers style of play – what is it?

Is Shearers spending spree about to be announced?
Is Shearers spending spree about to be announced?
Many who commentate, pundits and the like, continually state it doesn’t matter how you play its the results that count. Alan Shearer himself on many an occasion states that the result is the only thing that counts.

I ask myself if Big Sam had went on a decent run unbeaten and grinding out poor results, would that be good enough? (more…)
