Owen for sale. How many articles about our club’s current plight will begin with “just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse”? Well, it seems on evidence, that most people involved with the club are trying their best to provide ammunition in order to justify the trend. The most recent being Mr Michael Owen, or at least his agency. The same Michael Owen who we signed amidst much hype that he would eventually fill the boots of Big Al. The same Michael Owen, who for many reasons, has failed dismally to live up to his form before and during his spell at Madrid. He has also failed miserably to justify a £17m price-tag and ridiculous wages.
Of course, it’s probably unfair to blame Owen for signing on the dotted line. He should never have been offered the deal he initially was. Even if he’d been a success it would have been some price to pay. As it is, the fact he hasn’t played enough or performed enough, just makes the financial damage even more farcical. (more…)
Malcolm Dix: Honorary vice president of NUFCNewcastle United honorary vice-President, Malcolm Dix, has urged Mike Ashley to offer Alan Shearer a rolling contract as pre-season training approaches.
Dix, the founder member of the “Magpie” group which brought Sir John Hall to the helm at St James’s back in 1992 said yesterday:

Alan Shearer: Tempted in the wilderness by Fat Freddy? As inevitable as it used to be to see broken teeth outside The Rocket in Longbenton on a Friday neet, Mr Freddy Sheperd chucked his hat into the ring as soon our sale was announced.
Local papers recently reported that Shepherd met with Shearer in Jesmond to discuss the present situation and what his plans are. It’s also claimed those plans heavily involve Big Al.
However as reported in several newspaper and particularly in The Guardian, this is the general consensus –
“Although Shepherd’s interest is known by Ashley, sources have indicated he is not sure who is providing the money needed to meet the £100m asking price. (more…)
Profitable Group represetative, Steve McMahon. Many a successful team plays out of their back four. It would seem our potential and apparently popular suitors, The Profitable Group, would instead be building from the ‘black’. Quotes from The Telegraph ‘insider’ as opposed to a ‘spokesperson’, tell us that this group is financially responsible and see it as imperative to consolidate our debts and clean up the balance sheet and presumably ensure we’re self-sufficiently funded, should they gain ownership.
Scene 1: Rome 44B.C. Julius Caesar was fighting off an attack by a murderous group of Senators – “Et tu, Bruté?” (meaning “and you Brutus?”) were the words uttered by Caesar to his closest friend Marcus Brutus – when Caesar saw that he too was involved with the murderous group. Caesar lost his will to fight back on seeing the betrayal and allowed the Mob to cut him and kill him. It was the ultimate betrayal by a man who Caesar had loved as a brother.
