Kick-off moved to prevent trouble. The kick-off time for the game against Sunderland on October 31st has been moved forward at the requst of Northumbria police.
The only real surprise about the move is that it wasn’t made sooner. The return leg at Sunderland was moved forward pretty much as soon as the fixture list was released, yet the game at St James’ Park remained untouched.
So why did the bizzies wait until after the tickets have started to be sold before making the decision to apply to the Premier League for permission to move the game to an earlier 1:30pm kick-off? I, and many others, suggested that it may want to be moved to an earlier time, so why has it taken the authorities so long to cotton on to the same fact? (more…)
Yven Moyo - The newest recruit. It looks like Newcastle United are pressing ahead with their plans for the future of the club as it has emerged that highly rated French youngster, Yven Moyo, has signed a four-year deal with Newcastle.
Moyo has been on trial with Newcastle and featured on the bench for the reserves during their 2-1 win over Wolves last night.
Rumours surfaced earlier today that Moyo had indeed signed for us although personally I’m not one to jump the gun so I waited until it was on the official club website before annoncing it on here.
The 18-year old former Sochaux player becomes the latest addition a fledgling youth academy at St James’ Park that already boasts an array of talent. Much of the focus has been on the exploits of the first-team, and understandably so, but I for one am very happy that the club are still making moves to ensure NUFC has a bright future ahead. (more…)
Chris Hughton - Faces some tough choices. Is anyone still feeling a little deflated after the weekend? I know that I am still smarting from the home defeat against Stoke, and I am sure others are aswell.
There were a lot of things that just didn’t work at the weekend, and now the manager has to earn his money and adress those issues that were plain to see for everyone against Stoke.
In true Newcastle style, what started off to be a fantastic week with away wins at Everton and Chelsea was followed by the inevitable kick in the bollocks by losing at home to Stoke. As I said in my match report, I can handle us losing, but what I can’t handle is us not giving it a real go and trying to take the game to the opposition, particularly at home.
The fact is that Stoke did a job on us. They stopped us playing and only let us play where they wanted us to play. For all the first-half possesion we had we created pretty much the sum of nothing and we were lucky to benefit from Robert Huth making an erratic and needless challenge to concede a penalty and hand us the lead. A regular sight at St James'? Nah.There used to be a time when tickets for a match were rather hard to get hold of at St James’ Park.
I don’t mean going back to the Keegan era when we had a long waiting list for season tickets but only a 36,000 seater ground. In fact even as recently as just a few seasons ago it was pretty hard to get tickets for home games.
You were either consigned to the heavens in level seven, or if you were really lucky and got in there really early then you could maybe grab a spot in another part of the ground. It was never guaranteed though and more often than not those people searching for tickets would have to make do with what they got rather than choosing where they wanted to sit.
The crowd of 41,915 that witnessed the defeat to Stoke yesterday is a far cry from what we used to get in the Premier League, so where have they all gone? (more…)
Kenwyne Jones - Played a blinder.I’ve had a habit of writing my match reports just after match, which has led to some emotional pieces and caused some trouble between fans. So for this match I thought I had better change my approach.
After sleeping on it I have to say that my disappointment has stayed with me. I’m not disappointed that we lost, I never am providing that the team have given it their all in trying to win the game. They didn’t do that yesterday though in my opinion, which is why I am still feeling angry about it.
Stoke came with a gameplan, stuck to it, and took the three points back home with them. For all the ball that Newcastle had, the fact is they did very little with it. It was the wrong formation from Hughton in my opinion, and too many players had an off day. If Newcastle want to survive in the Premier League then both of those issues will need addressing if we are to keep our destiny in our own hands. (more…)
