Carroll does the business again.Newcastle capped a fantastic eight days of football as they notched up their third win on the spin at The Emirates this afternoon.
Not many people gave us a chance of getting any kind of result against Arsenal, including me to be fair, but yet again Chris Hughton managed his men to a defiant , only this time it was away at a top-four ground.
The chant of old used to go along the lines of ‘one-nil, to the Arsenal’, but not today as Newcastle shut Arsenal down and stopped them playing. To a man they were excellent, and to me this result ranks above some of the other stunners that we have pulled off already this season. Joey Barton said in his post-match interview on Sky that Newcastle had ruined a few betting coupons so far this season, which is true as we now boast exactly the same away league record as Chelsea, which is the best in the league I hasten to add.
Newcastle named an unchanged side for the third game in a row, which meant that Chris Hughton remained positive in his approach to the game when many had predicted that he may adopt a more defensive approach. (more…)
The Gunners v The Magpies.Newcastle face a tough test this lunchtime when they visit The Emirates to take on a title chasing Arsenal side in 1:30pm kick-off.
I get the feeling that a lot of fans are not expecting too much from the game this afternoon, other than a spirited and committed performance from the lads in black and white of course. Still, Newcastle will be full of confidence after two victories on the bounce, including that 5-1 mauling of Sunderland, and our team do have a habit of performing away from home and pulling off the odd unexpected result, so you never know, perhaps we could defy the odds again today?
Newcastle boss Chris Hughton will be instructing his side to play without fear as they take on The Gunners, although he has also warned that the game this afternoon will be one of toughest games of the season. (more…)
Carroll and Nolan celebrate together. It looks like Andy Carroll is hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons yet again, if the News of the World is to be believed.
The “newspaper” claims that Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan went on a 14-hour drinking binge after the 5-1 defeat of Sunderland last weekend, but it doesn’t end there.
Under the headline ‘Toon stars’ cocaine and sex shame’, the paper goes on to tell the story of how Nolan and Carroll partied around the city of Newcastle, before ending up back at Nolan’s house with two girls for company, which Andy Carroll apparently had a threesome with. As for the cocaine bit, well that is just a bit of headline manipulation as neither player actually took the drug.
Now the News of the World is now pay-per-view, which means you have to pay to read it’s content, which means that I can’t really link you to the story as it will just ask for money basically. Instead I have copied and pasted the story below. I’ll let you read it and I’ll pin my thoughts onto the end of it. (more…)
The 12th man? It’s an accusation that gets thrown about quite often, usually by the press in fairness.
The concensus of the media seems to be that we are a demanding bunch of fans who have aspirations that have been fuelled by a couple of years of heady heights under Kevin Keegan and a couple more years of heady heights under Sir Bobby Robson, and when they aren’t being matched we, apparently, turn against our own team, manager, etc.
Those nasty nasty Newcastle fans, eh?
But is there an element of truth in those accusations? The latest media frenzy regarding Chris Hughton’s position suggests that there might have been, to me anyway. Most of us are aware that the story started off in the minds of the media, and in particular a certain Anal Oliver, but it did get through to players and, rather ridiculously, some fans aswell. Amigos, forever?Andy Carroll has thanked team-mate, captain, and temporary landlord Kevin Nolan today and has vowed to put his troublesome past behind him.
Carroll has been in the headlines for the wrong reason quite often in his young career, but on the plus side of that, his age also ensures that he has an opportunity to learn from his mistakes before it is too late.
Carroll was ordered to live with Kevin Nolan after appearing in court on a charge of common assault after an alleged incident at an ex-girlfriend’s house. For his troubles, Nolan ended up with hassle being brought to his doorstep as Andy Carroll’s new Range Rover, that he bought as a reward for signing a new five-year contract, got torched on the driveway of Kev’s family home.
Carroll has stated today that he wants this chapter of his career to be put firmly behind him, and thanked Kevin Nolan and his family for their support during these tough times for the Gatsehead lad. Speaking to The Shields Gazette, Carroll had this to say; (more…)
