Can the Toon become a permanent fixture in the Champions League?
We’ve all got our opinions on exactly how the Premier League will pan out but, on the eve of the new season, betting sites have put their cards on the table and in a prediction that many Magpies might disagree with, have Newcastle missing out on successive Champions League campaigns.

The betting experts at Bookmakers TV have analysed the points predictions from different spread betting sites and, while Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United are again expected to fill three of the Champions League places, the other spot is most likely to be filled by Liverpool.

Jurgen’s Klopp’s team underperformed badly last season and are expected to score eight more points this time round, while Newcastle drop back four points to a total of 67.

The downturn in Newcastle’s results if they happen will most likely be put down to having to balance Premier League football with the extra exertions of a European campaign. The hope is that the signings of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento will strengthen the squad sufficiently to cope with the additional games.

Chelsea are also expected to bounce back from last season’s nightmare, but a 23 point jump to the same points tally as Newcastle seems highly optimistic, particularly after Christopher Nkunku suffered a lengthy injury blow.

Regardless of how Chelsea fare, Eddie Howe’s men know they’ll have to hit the ground running to avoid getting left behind. They certainly got off to a good start though with a highly convincing 5-1 victory over Aston Villa, which should have been a tough fixture after the Villans resurgence last season under Unai Emery. Several more tricky fixtures follow though with Man City, Liverpool and Brighton all likely to provide a stern test.
