Newcastle United v S.C. Braga.
Another stiff test in Portugal!
Date: Friday, 27th July.
Venue: Estádio Algarve, Faro, Portugal.
Kick off: 8.45pm local and UK time.
UK TV: Live on ESPN UK.

Another day, another game, another Newcastle United team!

Newcastle United’s first game since yesterday sees them facing a Portuguese team who have recently seen themselves breaking the domination of the “big three” of Portuguese club football, Porto, Benfica and Sporting Club of Portugal. Last season, they came third in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, and in the season before that, second. Hence, this should provide another stiff test for the Magpies. However, with the two games in two days format of this “Guadiana Torneo”, John Carver jas stated that Alan Pardew plans to field two almost completely different sides. This should see our Silver Supremo wheeling out far more of the “big guns” for this one, as the side who played Olympiacos yesterday featured quite a few of the bairns and squad players, but we’ll see. As usual, I shall be posting the teamsheets below when they become available.

Some of you out there will no doubt recognise an old Toon face in the Braga side, that of Hugo Viana, the Portuguese midfielder who was signed for Newcastle by Bobby Robson in June, 2002. It seems a long time ago now, though he’s still only 29 with quite a few miles left on his clock yet.

This is another of Newcastle United pre season friendly which will be televised by ESPN, but I will also be publishing some links to the game, and also highlights after the game too so stay tuned!

  1. Cabaye on the bench, but where is Ben Arfa? Should be an interesting game and if we win we get a trophy so its worth going for it.

“Has Pards not learn that we suck in 4-4-2. :S”

Perhaps there’s something in the poll above after all, Phisix.

  4. Good team, we will kill those French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Ukrain, Suesse, Papal, Armenian, ball playing, Asain, Chinese somebody’s.

  5. Stonger side first half. Soaked it up and came on strong . Papiss may have had two and Sameobi playing very well. Looking solid now and I fancy em strong now. 2 nowt. HWTL.

    “Stronger side first half.”

Aye Porcie, but it’s Braga’s turn to send out the bairns and the reserves this time. I was checking out their squad against the teamsheet on “Transfermarkt” and the commentator was right, it’s very much their second string side.

  7. Ba misses penalty and scores rebound. They had it saying Braga 1-0 for a while too haha.

  8. Dissapointed by the number of long balls forward that are so easily defended. Makes you wonder if this Carroll thing is more than just rumours.

  9. These “friendly” games haven’t been that friendly. That Douglao who’s just been sent off reminds me a bit of that “Douglas” we’ve supposedly been chasing. He’s a radgepacket too.

  10. If there are any Yanks out there, can anyone please explain why some of you are comparing the London Olympics to Hitler’s Olympics of 1936 because the opening ceremony celebrated “Solicialized medicine” (whatever that is?), and also why some Americans are saying that we’re all dying in hospital corridors?

    What’s all that shit about?

  11. Most Americans decide what they think of important societal-economic issues and politics based on what the teevee legacy media tell them. Over the past several years, some of us have gotten all complainy about the fact that if we get a compound fracture or need a kidney removed, it puts in onerous debt for the rest of our lives. Some have even gotten so uppity as to suggest that we should have some form of single-payer health (or all-payer, etc). Therefore, the mainstream media-who have giant insurance and pharmaceutical companies, among other, as their overlords-have been beating the drum even more incessantly about how single payer or any system that cuts out the profit motive of private healthcare IS scary, scary European socialism/communism. Thus we get healthcare ‘reform’ that amounts to forcing everyone into for-profit insurance policies. Credit where it’s due: some Americans see through that but it’s a credit to the effectiveness of our propaganda media that many do not.

As to the Hitler thing, I don’t even have a guess. Once again, pretty glad I dropped cable last year. I’m not going to pay to help these dumbass “pundits” poison people’s understanding of the world with their blatant corporate propaganda.
