Newcastle United v Bolton match banter.
Fifth win in a row?
Date: Monday, 9th April 2012
Kick-off: 3.00pm
Referee: Mike Jones
UK TV: None

Good afternoon Geordies, and welcome to our match banter feature for todays game at St James’ Park against Bolton Wanderers.

As some of you will have noticed, no doubt, if we win this fixture it will be our fifth victory in a row in what is turning into an excellent finale to the season for the Magpies, with the club being in danger of qualifying for the Champions League if they aren’t careful!

The Trotters come into this game on the back of a 0-3 home defeat at the hands of Martin Jol’s Fulham, however their recent form hasn’t been bad at all. They won three of their previous four games before that lifting them from the relegation places in what has been a very poor season for the Lancashire club, not least with one of their players, Patrice Muamba almost dying on the field of play in what should have been one of the brighter moments of their season, an FA Cup quarter final appearence against Tottenham. But anyway, for all that kind of stuff, and much, much more, you can check out Jimbob’s superb match preview which should fill you in with everything you need to know in the run up to the game. We shall also be posting match highlights, a full match report and a links to a video of the whole game when it’s all over (hopefully).

Finally we shall also be posting the team sheets for the game when they become available, which only leaves it for me to say:

Howay the Lads!

  1. IT’s brilliant that in this site you guys have gone the extra mile to bring all the footage from the game. The only let down being there are no links for live streaming of the game then you’d have it all covered. Good work and I hope we win today. HWTL

There are links, JP! I hope I can get a full video of the game, as it isn’t on Sky or ESPN this time.

  3. I hope Ba scores today to shut them rumours flying around and to boost his confidence.
2-1 to the Toon, hopefully more, but I’ll be happy with that :)

“I hope Ba scores today to shut them rumours flying around”

    What rumours, JP?

  5. Very poor lacklustre first half. All the players look knackered. No spark. Pardew will have to give the half time team talk of his managerial career if his players are going to get anything out of this game.

  6. That Norwich is doing the business makes this excruciating to sit through. C’mon lads!

  7. Level on points with Spurs as it stands…my fingernails will be tiny nubs after the next 15 minutes…

  8. Everton turning it up for the run-in, as usual. Another reason to grab these points.

“Everton turning it up for the run-in, as usual.”

They were completely robbed in one of their recent games too, tunyc.

  10. resutls going are way :), feeling really sorry for ba he must be the only one not having a good time right now

  11. Saw that, worky. I’ve had EFC pegged as the team to worry about for several weeks, knowing the MON bump would eventually wear off. Seems like that happened today.

  12. And we’d be 5-6 points clear of CFC if they didn’t get some officiating help on Saturday…

  13. If Arsenal hadn’t got a 95th minute winner against us a few weeks ago we’d actually be 3rd now…. Amazing.

Anyway Chelsea still have to play Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and Man City all away…. Then they have to play us at home. They also have their FA cup and Champions League semi finals to deal with so I now can’t really see us finishing lower than 5th now.

I really thought the champions league was no longer a possibility after we lost at Aresnal but with us being the form team out of the contenders and Spurs starting to stutter I think we actually have a better chance at it than Spurs and Chelsea.

  14. What a goal by Hatem!

Great assist by Shola & Super Cisse does the rest!

    Another clean sheet.

    3 points bagged!

  15. Paulosio @34:

Another good thing is that Man City will have nothing to play for when they come here and probably a manager on the verge of being sacked.

    Do we dare to dream?

  16. Any Man Utd fan will know this, the sign of a team of champions is playing badly and still winning – it wasn’t pretty but we got the three points.
Also, considering Chelsea have some horror fixtures (e.g. Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle (yes, we will be hard to beat) etc.) and Tottenham seem to have ran out of steam, we could get the fourth or even third place with a bit of luck..Let’s be optimistic, we have nothing to lose anymore, let’s get behind the team and stop with the negativity.

  17. I lost the stream on my PC just before HBA scored, just got “…..and Bolton nil” as I switched over to the Radio. Frustrating, but we got there. HWTL.

  18. clinath,

check motd tonight, if you’re within range, it was special mate.

  19. pissed off with Sky before the KO. Talking about spurs winning and Chelsea losing, so the will pull away and make 4th spot theirs….its like we’re Fckn invisible or something. After the games they still want to talk about spurs “surprise” defeat rather than our victory!!!

  20. That’ll never change mate, sorry.

They’ll have to mention us as we’re above chelsea & level with spuds for now. Although they could wait to see if chelsea win & keep ignoring us, F*** ’em!

  21. ….I’m still waiting for them to trot out “…but they haven’t played anyone yet”

  22. I’m trying not to count my chickens, but…

Since we are pretty much going to finish 6th at worst, if Liverpool beat Everton this weekend does that guarantee us Europe???

  23. To quote Arsene Wenger and his French proverb yesterday… “the horse has smelled the stable.” Well, NUFC have sniffed the garlic of Europe and there’s nothing to stop us now! HWTL!

  24. I’d be very surprised if HBA isn’t in the France squad for the Euros. Even if he doesn’t start games, what an option off the bench against tired legs.
