Newcastle United v Wigan Athletic.
Worried about Wigan?
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle
Date: Saturday, October 22nd, 2011
Kick-off: 3:00pm
Referee: Neil Swarbrick.

Good afternoon Toonsters.

Here we go trying to extend our unbeaten run to 9 games this season and despite the talk of potential banana skins you’d have to fancy our chances of taking all 3 points at home to Wigan.

You might want to take a look at Jimbob’s excellent and extensive Newcastle v Wigan match preview and Worky’s post about what Pardew and Martinez have to say which, between them, have left little for me to add to proceedings.

Coloccini’s toe seems okay according to reports and the only player we have on the injury list is Mike Williamson, which gives Pardew plenty of options for the starting XI. I would nevertheless anticipate it looking exactly like it has done for the previoius few weeks with subs only being called into action due to injury or late in the game, but we’ll see.

So enjoy the game and I hope you can find a decent Internet feed. I’ll update the teamsheets when they’re available. I’ve got us down for 3-0.

“Same team as before. Ben Arfa, Santon on the bench.”

I thought it would be Dani M. Until we lose it will probably end up staying more or less the same.

  2. 3-1 toon. Will be tough game but we are far better thn thm. HBA to score coming off bence. 3points needed today lads with tough games lying ahead.

“Worky, notice Ba having to act as the 5th midfielder?”

Jimbob, I noticed him heading the ball at the goalkeeper when it may have been easier to score.

  5. We’re being outnumbered in the centre, but because we’re the home side, I think we’ll keep it as it is with two up top…

  6. We have been creating some nice movements, but we have lacked chances bar a few. We need to turn it up for the next half and maybe bring on Benny and Santon early for some oomph.

“Worky, that was Best I think.”

“Try this link, Fox Sports and usually great quality.”

I forgot to say thanks for the link sussextoon. I’m watching that one.

  10. If I wasn’t a Toon fan, I’d feel sorry for Wigan because they don’t deserve that, especially being 19th or whatever. Like QPR against us though, despite the decent foreplay, they just can’t finish themselves off properly.

Things are definitely going our way so far this season.

  11. Can’t complain 3 points…thought we would have smashed in the wigan skulls then gave the corpses a bout of bukkake…

  12. Still undefeated and the confidance is still there. Marv was tidy and needs to play in our starting XI. Benny started off slow but showed some class after.

  13. It was always going to be one of them games, but we got 3 great points, and Cabaye is up and running!

I wonder due to Best coming off at half-time for HBA, that it was kind of an acceptance from Pardew that he got the tactics wrong first half, and should have matched Wigan’s midfield five.

Feel a little sorry for Wigan, they play the right way, just don’t have a striker.

    Anyway, great result!

  14. Bukkake some corpses SJT?

That is easily the most grim thing I’ve read on this site, and I say some inappropriate stuff at times. :-)

I agree Jimbob, but at least he deserves a bit of credit for changing things in good time.

  16. Agree Worky, good time to change it, and I think taking Best off over Ba was the right thing to do.

    “Bukkake some corpses SJT?”

Aye Jimbob, I think SJT’s been looking at some very wrong websites recently!

SJT, how are your scores deein’ in the prediction thing?

  18. I wonder if we’ll see more 4-5-1 variants from Perdew after this match. It certainly does play to our strength in mid-field and reduces our requirement for strikers. Does anyone have stats for second half vs first half? Would be interesting to see the different nubmers vs formation.
