Kick-off: 3:00pm
Referee: Martin Atkinson
Hello, good afternoon and welcome to NUFC Blog’s match banter post.
Of course, this afternoon sees the Magpies facing tricky customers, Blackburn Rovers, at home; our first home game in four. As I pointed out in my match preview, Blackburn have beaten us in the last five of these home games, and the last time we won, Sir Bobby Robson had just been given the boot as manager, with current assistant, John Carver leading the lads to victory on that day. Optimists will probably say this run has to end soon, just as our London hoodoo did several years ago. Let’s hope so!
Despite a very poor start to the season though, Blackburn seem to have been much more successful in their recent games with a draw against Fulham and a spectactular 4-3 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League, and a 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient in the League Cup, so it probably won’t be easy. Looking at things from the opposite perspective though, our defence has been very mean, in the Premiership at least, with only two goals conceeded in no less than five games.
As usual, we have our match preview for a more in depth look with all the usual stuff such as team news, what the managers say, statistics and all that kind of thing. Also as usual, I shall endeavour to post the teamsheets for the game below when they become available.
One last thing, if anyone has any links to the game, please feel free to post them.
Howay the Lads!
