Newcastle United vs Blackburn Rovers match banter!

Newcastle United vs Blackburn Rovers.
At least we won't have to look at Big Sam this time!
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle
Date: Saturday, Sept 24th, 2011
Kick-off: 3:00pm
Referee: Martin Atkinson

Hello, good afternoon and welcome to NUFC Blog’s match banter post.

Of course, this afternoon sees the Magpies facing tricky customers, Blackburn Rovers, at home; our first home game in four. As I pointed out in my match preview, Blackburn have beaten us in the last five of these home games, and the last time we won, Sir Bobby Robson had just been given the boot as manager, with current assistant, John Carver leading the lads to victory on that day. Optimists will probably say this run has to end soon, just as our London hoodoo did several years ago. Let’s hope so!

Despite a very poor start to the season though, Blackburn seem to have been much more successful in their recent games with a draw against Fulham and a spectactular 4-3 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League, and a 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient in the League Cup, so it probably won’t be easy. Looking at things from the opposite perspective though, our defence has been very mean, in the Premiership at least, with only two goals conceeded in no less than five games.

As usual, we have our match preview for a more in depth look with all the usual stuff such as team news, what the managers say, statistics and all that kind of thing. Also as usual, I shall endeavour to post the teamsheets for the game below when they become available.

One last thing, if anyone has any links to the game, please feel free to post them.

Howay the Lads!

  1. Time to end that beaten run and then beat them in the Carling Cup away too! Looking forward to actually seeing what Benny and Marveaux can do!

  2. There’s a rumour floating around that Pardew has decided to start Ben Arfa. I would be seriously surprised if such transpired.

  3. Also not sure if you know this mate but if you look on NUFC.com and scroll down a bit it always lists any channels showing the match, in the UK and Overseas.

If you can’t find a link directly you can search for streams of that channel.

Not foolproof but I’ve had some cracking links that way in the past.

    Thanks GeordieDan.

I’ll have a look as well, but I’ll be hunting down the teamsheet too.

  8. HOWAY THE LADS.
Well done BA proving the doubters wrong I said you where excellent!!

    (I lied)

  9. Perfect half except for Raylor bad pass back. We need to keep pushing in the second half and bring on Benny and Marv when the other two wingers tires or we need some more creativity.

“Perfect half except for Raylor bad pass back.”

We’re giving the ball away a bit too much. It wasn’t just Ryan Taylor Phisix.

  11. A good result,Ba can score,Benny is back,we are doing well and we are that high in table Cashley wanted to call NASA in(untill he relisied the Cost).

  12. At last,
they can’t cheat us out of another game this time.
Probably cos that cheating little F*** gamst wasn’t playing (cheating).

    Get in.

    Kean out!

  13. HOWAY THE LADS!!!

Really enjoyed that. Great contributions all over the pitch and Obertan surprisingly(for me at least) much more effective today. I just wish he could shoot.

Similar for Best. But Ba was unplayable today.

Welcome to NUFC Mr Ba. Well played.

With great cameos from Marveux and Benny Boy that was a very good match.

    HWTL’s :D

“When’s it all going to go wrong?”

We’ve been lucky with our opening games WT. None of them too special and all beatable except perhaps for the Gooners.

Hopefully by the time we meet up with the Mancs and Chelski it’ll be from a comfortable position in the top half when a point or two dropped wont make a great difference.

Obertan was better than he has been and Ba showed he can score in the BPL and his West Ham success wasnt a fluke.

Still prefer 4-2-3-1 – as we’d be less predictable ! However as long as we’re winning it dont make a great deal of difference do it ?

  15. Andy,

I think we’ve both got Geordie goblins on our shoulders like Hugh. They’re constantly whispering in wor lugs.

Mines currently telling me about teams like Blackpool and Hull, who have both been in similar positions this early in the season, and then got relegated / nearly relegated etc.

Next he’ll probably be telling me that Ashley’s going to do something mad again, or the team will be abducted by aliens.

Pleased about the game though. At least we’re buiding up a cushion for when it invetibly hits the fan in some way. :-)

    Did your

stream disappear shortly after you highlighted it WT ?”

Aye thanks Phisix, rekonufc and GeeordieDan too.

One of ’em went tits up after a while Andy. Can’t remember now ’cause I tried a few.

  17. Wow. A convincing performance, we outshot them 19 (8 on) to 4 (1 on) and had 59% possession… and we finally beat Blackburn. Good to see HBA and Marveux making appearances. How did those to look? I wasn’t able to catch the match.

  18. That’s two solid performances in the league in as many weeks. Good to see us converting more chances this time ‘roond.

  19. The world is spinning off its axis. Louis Taylor of the Guardian wrote a complementary article yesterday and a favourable match review today!

She usually spews bile about all things Newcastle and NUFC.

GS, She wrote one or two complimentary ones when Hughton was in charge and I think she fancied him a bit from what she wrote. Maybe shes fancies Alan Pardew as well?

Match report now up BTW and Highlights and match fact and stats are on the way.
