Barton: Chances of new contract “slim to none”, but Pardew still hopeful.

This confirms what Barton’s agent, Willie Mackay, was saying back in May:
“I had a meeting with Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias and club secretary Lee Charnley and they have indicated Joey will not be offered a new contract.
“Joey will continue to be a Newcastle player next season and then he will leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract.
“Joey would have loved to have extended his stay at Newcastle, but unfortunately it is not to be.”
Now Barton has backed this up on his Twitter page. When asked by Twitter user Craigy Robertson:
“Do you think NUFC will eventually offer you a new contract? Makes no sense for the FCB to get rid of you,” Barton tweeted back:
“Contract negations not re-opened am off now to watch Mr.Nice DVD” then adding before he went to enjoy the tale of Britain’s most famous purveyor of herbal remedies:
“Not speak to any other club either back to NUFC on tues, happy?”
A few hours later, Barton was back to the tweeting again.
When told by silver toungued charmer, Kyle Graham, to:
“Stop being such a t*** and wanting a 5 year deal and settle for a 3 year if you ‘love’ the club so much,” Barton replied:
“Haven’t been offered a week 1 deal u nugget.”
When ‘Big Dave’ Kerr asked what the chances of them reopening might be, Barton tweeted back:
“Slim to none…” then adding:
“If anything changes on the contract front, I’ll be 1st to let use all know don’t worry. Forget all this nuggets talking rubbish.”
When Twitter user Kevin Ashford asked:
“So if a premier league team does not offer u a deal, but let’s say west ham for example did, you would just call it a day?” Barton then tweeted:
“Why would a drop down a league when I can more than hold my own in the premiership???”
Though of course, Barton did indeed “drop down a league” when Newcastle United were relegated from The Premiership in 2009. When Ashford responded:
“Barton I agree that you are still good enough for the premier league:) I was just asking if it was something you would consider?” Barton tweeted back:
“What benefit would it give me???? Logically??? None I play this game to play against the best week in week out…..”
And that was that more or less it. Whilst it has been known for some time that chances of Barton extending were “slim to none”, it is good to hear it confirmed by the player himself and not just his agent. It is also interesting to know that the player has not been in touch with any potential new clubs yet with a view to a move before his contract expires, and that he will be rejoining the club on Tuesday as preparations begin for a new season.
Meanwhile in a rare interview, his manager, Alan Pardew, has not ientirely given up hope of keeping Barton at the club. He said of the contract imbroglio:
“I have spoke to Joey over the summer. Unfortunately, at the moment there is no new contract for him.
“He has a year remaining, and I think he will stay for that year.
“I am hoping he will play better than last year, I don’t see why he shouldn’t.
“My view of it is quite open ended. I think like a lot of players that yearly term contracts in the Premier League are going to be the norm.
“But who is to stay that in a year’s time that Joey gets a contract that he finds acceptable?”
Good luck on that one Alan!
Big Sam at West ham is saying 3m from Stoke is not enough for Carlton Cole. Well Carlton Cole is a lot better than Best/Lov/Shola so maybe we should make a bid. The only reason I never considered him before was I thought they would be after 10million for him.
