Newcastle appear to have lost out on Ziani

The Daily Mail today tells us that Ziani is looking likely to sign for Newcastle, despite his alleged feud with Hatem Ben Arfa following a training ground bust-up a few years ago.
Foreign media tells a different story however.
Apparently, Ziani flew to Turkey yesterday and has all but signed for Kayserispor who are currently 4th in Turkey’s ‘Super Lig’.
It is reported that Kayserispor coach Shota Arveladze managed to win Ziani over despite interest in the player from Galatasaray.
The deal will apparently take the form of a loan until the end of the season with an option to purchase for 2.5m Euros thereafter.
It seems that Kayserispor are also prepared to meet the player’s wage demands of 69,000 Euros a week (£50,500) which could well have been one reason why he was a no-go for Newcastle. I can’t imagine Ashley paying him that sort of wage.
Ziani appears to have confirmed the speculation in the foreign press, saying:
“Yes, I am in Turkey. The purpose of my presence, and as you know, of course, is to meet officials of the club Kayserispor who invited me to begin discussions about my possible transfer.
“Now if we can find agreement, I can sign maybe even today.”
Although I should warn you that that’s a loose translation based on my grade 4 CSE French. He could well have been talking about his intent to take up yak farming in Bolivia for all I know.
He was never signing for us. We have been distancing ourselves from him for about a week now. We probably just inquired and the rest is all bull fed to foreign media by his agent.
