Don’t believe the hype.

In many ways, black and white are very appropriate colours for Newcastle United.
There is no middle ground as a general rule and many aspects of our club are over-hyped and under-hyped accordingly.
I think it is all bollocks personally and I think a bit of perspective is needed in all this.
Of course losing to Blackpool is disappointing – It wasn’t how the script was written. Most home defeats are disappointing in fairness, but at least there are plus points we can take out of the game, aswell as negative points to be fair.
At the end of the day, nothing will be decided by us losing yesterday as there are still 34 games to go. Right now it is how we bounce back in the next few games that is the most important factor in all this.
The stats say that we had 22 shots at goal and had 57% of the possesion. It didn’t matter in the end, but at least it shows we are still creating chances and trying to assert our own game. If we stopped doing that then I would be a hell of a lot more concerned about it all!
I don’t want to dwell on yesterdays result to be honest. It has been and gone, lessons will need to be learned etc. I just find some of the knee-jerk reaction that came about after the match a bit silly to be honest, although I understand that losing points to a likely relegation rival is not ideal, far from it in fact.
Perhaps the 6-0 victory against Aston Villa has led some people into a false sense of security? Maybe some thought that we were better than we actually are after that result? As impressive as it was, that vicory will not be the deciding factor in us stopping up this season, much like the defeat yesterday won’t sentance us to a season of doom.
Can things be changed? Yes. Did all players play to the top of their ability? No, and I am sure they are as disappointed about that as we are, but we still created chances that would have gone in the back back of the net on another day.
Next up for us will be Everton, and no doubt there will be people baying for blood if we lose at Goodison against a consolidated top eight team. Maybe not, but the reaction of a lot of fans makes me think there will be a few dummies getting spat should we fail to take a point. I would also suggest that those who would like to see two strikers up front next week prepare to be disappointed. I do think there will be changes, but not on the scale of what some people will be expecting.
On the other hand, if we pull of a result I am ready for the tubthumping of a ‘mid-table finish’ to rear it’s head again. The life and times of a Newcastle fan eh!
It’s either one way or the other, black or white.
Tiote for Smith, that’s the only change I would make.
The Blackppol game doesn’t exist, only Everton.
