Hughton hails ‘best fan’s in the country’.

Nottingham Forest have sold out their ticket allocation for the top of the table clash and the sheer importance of the game should mean that Newcastle have a crowd near to 50,000. Whether it will be enough to topple our record of 49,644 set against Middlebrough earlier in the season remains to be seen but either way an electric atmosphere can be expected. The only reasons I expect this game to not sell out are because of the Monday evening kick off and because of live Sky TV coverage. That said though, a crowd of around 50,000 on a Monday night will be magnificent and flies in the face of critics who claimed that we would struggle as crowds desert us.
Speaking to the clubs official website, Chris Hugton waxed lyrical about the fantastic level of support the team has recieved this season.
“We’ve got the best home record in the country because we’ve got the best fans in the country,” Hughton said, “They have turned out in huge numbers at St James’ park all season, they have always stuck with us and that’s why, on a couple of occasions, we’ve got late goals to win games.”
Hughton wont go far wrong when he dishes out such effusive praise when talking of the fans. Keeping them on side is very important for any manager who wants time and we have seen many examples of ‘fan power’ forcing a chairman to act, not only with oursleves but at other clubs aswell. What better way of keeping fans on side is there asides from flattery?
Anyway, enough of the love-in. Looking forward to Monday’s game against the only team that is really challenging our promotion, Hughton has yet again called on the fans to play their part. Chris said:
“We need them again on Monday because this is a massive game, probably the biggest of the season so far.”
I’m pretty sure the atmosphere will be electric on Monday evening and our lot will be doing their best to spur the lads on to a win that would, barring the most ridiculous Devon-loch style collapse, effectively seal our promotion. Whether we break our own record again remains to be seen but if it isn’t this match then I’m pretty certain we will get a full house before the season is out.
