It’s been announced on the official site that Newcastle United have struck a sweet deal for Fabrice Pancrate. The French midfielder/stirker has secured a deal until the end of the season, after impressing Chris Hughton in his two week trial, which involved a run out for the reserves against Hartlepool United, with yours truly in attendance.

He had a five year spell with Paris St Germain, which included loan spells at Real Betis and Sochaux. And was being pursued by a number of French and English clubs. He was followed in the summer by Portsmouth, Everton, Sheff Utd and Burnley but nothing came of the interest.

Hughton declared he had been happy with his endeavour and ability in the training sessions, and having been pacy and direct in the reserve game against Hartlepool it seemed to bode well for the Frenchman. Personally, I would have liked to have seen more of him to make my own judgement but clearly Hughton has had that luxury. As a supporter having seen him in just the one game, I would say if he can get at defences the way he did in spells the other night, then he will excite the crowd. I only hope he has a final product.

Pancrate was a free agent so the only costs incurred will be whatever blood he’s managed to squeeze from the club wages stone. He’s been handed the No 21 shirt, and provided his registration is through in time, he could make his debut away to Preston North End on Monday.

  1. When I first heard about him being on a trial for NUFC, I went on PSG’s forum and asked what they thought about him. The only positive point they could come up with is that he runs alot. From they told me, he doesn’t have that end product and is quiet bad. So I’m a bit worried about this signing but let’s hope he’ll do okay.

  2. Seems like another Jonas but with pace. No end product. But, this is the Championship. Average players can play one good game and dominate.

  3. Metz fans thought Bassong was shit too to be fair.

A short term deal until the end of the season means we’ve got little to lose.

  4. Look we need bodies and i assume he`s good enough for the second division, it`s untill the summer and the only outgoing is wages, what`s to lose.

  5. He has by all accounts pace and that is something we do not have a lot of  , another squad member in and on a free . With the contract only being untill the end of the season it is a good deal . Costs us nothing and we get a long look at the guy and can see if he could do a job long term .

  6. Well another way of looking at it is that apart from Big Al our big money signings have been sh1t. So atleast we haven’t wasted any off MAs money lol and if he is a whinger or a Kermit we can say bye bye at the end of the season. The only thing that concerns me is why he has been shipped about a bit.

  7. In the day there was a  hailing station @ north Shields where incoming ships would report their arrival.
One such ship was named Anna, who when passing the station was hailed,
    “What ship?”
To which the reply was,  “Anna” !
A moment later the same query, “I said what ship “?
    Again the same reply “Anna”
This brough a frustrated, “Ah kna yee kna,   but a divin kna”
Moral of the story ,Larn yer Geordie like !
