Today is of course deadline day for the transfer window, so what can we expect?

Well I’m not convinced we’ll actually buy anyone but I would hope there’ll at least be one or two loan signings to strengthen the squad.

Hughton told The Journal:

We have good players here and it’s only right the young lads are given an opportunity in this squad because they deserve it.

But we need some players in before 5pm because we realise that the squad is not strong enough to compete for the whole season. The club are aware of that.

Once we have injuries, the squad is going to be stretched. (Fabricio) Coloccini was missing against Leicester, Jonás (Gutiérrez) has a hamstring problem and will be out for four weeks and Shola Ameobi has a stress fracture in his foot which needs to be monitored.”

I’m sort of chuckling even as I write this. I say ‘sort of’, simply because it’s turning more from a chuckle to a kind of hysterical low mewling sound. That’s what this club is doing to me and to others. The fact that the board continue to display such incompetence and such a lack of decency and respect for those at the club and the supporters is bordering on the ridiculous.

The latest debacle is the letter Peter Lovenkrands received through the post informing him that his services were no longer required. He’d earlier gone on record as saying he’d be happy to stick around if offered the right deal. And in return he receives this unwarranted kick in the teeth. (more…)

Danish Toon striker / winger Peter Lovenkrands’s agent, Ivan Marko Benes has told Danish sports site, Sporten.dk that his client is awaiting confirmation on who will be manager at Sid James’s Park before talks with the club on extending his stay on Tyneside.

In a symptom of the instability at the club with Mike Ashley’s proposed sale, and ongoing talks betwen owner, Mike Ashley and Alan Shearer over the Toon hotseat; Benes told Sporten.dk: “We have agreed with Newcastle (more…)
