Newcastle linked with Leroy Fer.

N..not tonight, N..not tonight.
N..not tonight, N..not tonight.
Newcastle have been linked with a new name today, one of 62,349 transfer links to date.

The Daily Mail seem to believe that Newcastle are close to capturing 20-year old Dutch defensive midfielder, Leroy Fer.

I’ve never heard of him to be honest, but apparently Fer, nicknamed ‘the bouncer’ due to his strong physique, is close to signing at St James’ Park in a deal said to be in the region of £4 million. Now this is a report from The Daily Mail that has no quotes or anything to back it up or to give it any substance, so on that basis I am inclined to believe that this is just be paper talk. Still lets take a look at him anyway, have a look at what we could have won, so to speak. (more…)

Ben Arfa deal edging closer.

Ben Arfa - Soon to be in Toon?
Ben Arfa - Soon to be in Toon?
It looks like the protracted Hatem Ben Arfa saga could finally be reaching a solution that will please most Newcastle fans.

The story has been well publiscised, but it hasn’t been Newcastle doing all the shouting. That has been left to Marseille and the player himself, but after a few days of entertaining dialogue between the two parties it would now appear that the Marseille boss, Didier Deschamps, is prepared to let the player leave Stade Velodrome.

The last little update on the saga came late last night when the Marseille president admitted that he wouldn’t want to be the person to ruin the career of Ben Arfa by keeping him at a club he has publically declared never to to return to. That in itself fuelled the speculation that he could be prepared to let Ben Arfa finally get his wish and join Newcastle, and these new words from Deschamps will have added weight to the specualtion that something is about to happen. Lack of investment could cost us survival.

 Cheap cheap!
Cheap cheap!
Newcastle are now just three days away from kicking off their Premier League campaign, but expectations on Tyneside have never been lower.

I think most Newcastle fans will be happy to survive this season, although lack of investment in the playing squad means that will be a massive gamble, and it appears that it is a gamble that the club are prepared to take.

I understand there are still just over two weeks to go in the transfer market, but as things stand currently I just can’t see many more, if any, new faces coming through the door. It pains me to say that as I am generally an opimistic person, but the lack of investment is beginning to get me down. A modest outlay on players to add to our squad for the new season would have comfortably secured safety in my opinion, but if there is no investment then we could be in for a very long season indeed. Ben Arfa deal isn’t going to happen, but it was fun whilst it lasted!

Ben Arfa - Would have been a great signing.
Ben Arfa - Would have been a great signing.
I am just about ready to put my neck on the block and say that I don’t think we will be getting Hatem Ben Arfa anytime soon, anytime at all in fact.

It’s my opinion that the protacted transfer saga has gone on for far too long for the move to materialise now.

I would be happy to be proved wrong mind, very happy in fact as I beleive that Ben Arfa has enough about him to become a real fan favourite at St James’ Park.

It seems that the player would like to come to Newcastle, as evidenced by the fact he stormed off in a huff when the Marseille president said he would be staying in France and not going out on loan. In fact I even think the player told the club that he wouldn’t be going back to Marseille, although if that is wrong then please correct me as I have just got in from work. (more…)

Ben Arfa close to Newcastle switch?

Hatem tuned up for Toon?
Hatem tuned up for Toon?
Reports in the Italian press are suggesting that Newcastle have won the race to sign Marseille midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa.

The source is Italian publication Tutto Mercato, who claim that Ben Arfa has rejected bids from Hoffenheim, AC Milan and Parma and has chosen Newcastle as the place he would like to move to.

I’m not too sure of the legitimacy of the Italian press, or of the legitmacy of these reports, but they do seem to correlate with what has been reported on the French press over the past few days. The Ben Arfa saga most definately rolls on then, and it looks like it is the player himself who is trying to place Newcastle in the box seat to capture the signature of the 23-year old talented midfielder.
