Forster eyeing a permanent move to Celtic?

Fraser Forster, Newcastle goalkeeper currently on loan to Celtic.
Celtic or Newcastle?
Loaned out Newcastle United keeper Fraser Forster seems happy at Celtic.

23-year old keeper Fraser Forster has of course been loaned out to Celtic for the season, but he’s still a Newcastle player and will be returning to the club in July for the pre-season tour of the States, which will give Alan Pardew a chance to get a closer look at him.

Being allergic to Scottish football I haven’t closely followed how he’s done at Celtic, but judging by the fact that he broke Celtic’s clean-sheet record (23 clean sheets in 36 matches) it’s safe to assume he’s done pretty well.

With Harper, Krul and Soderberg also in the squad we’re fairly well-stocked with decent goalkeepers, so Forster could find himself loaned out again – or possibly even sold – next season.

Talking about his time at Celtic, Forster said:

Celtic’s a fantastic club with a fantastic history and with the chance to go and play in Europe.

This is a chance to go and win stuff.

So there’s a lot of positives about this club, it’s definitely a team on the up. (more…)

Newcastle need to show some Krul intentions.

Tim Krul - The future Shay Given?
Tim Krul - The future Shay Given?
It was revealed yesterday that Steven Taylor is set to be offered a new contract at Newcastle sometime in the near future, which is good, great in fact.

However, Taylor isn’t the only player who we risk losing at the end of the upcoming season as Dutch ‘keeper Tim Krul also enters the final twelve months of his contract.

Krul has been tipped to reach the top for some time now, and the Dutchman is still only 22 years old. As a goalkeeper, his potential is undoubted and you would have to say that he would be knocking on the door of the first team a lot harder at some other clubs than he is a Newcastle. The problem is that Krul has been a victim of playing in one of our most well stocked positions. We had Shay Given for years, then he left and Steve Harper came into the frame, which leaves Krul next in line for the number one, but will he be around for long enough to claim it for himself? Newcastle keeper currently on loan
Newcastle keeper currently on loan
Newcastle United have agreed to extend the loan of bright young keeper Fraser Forster to Norwich City until the end of the season.

Forster is Newcastle born and bred, playing for the Toon since the age of 11. After a brief spell on loan at Bristol City, the Hexham born keeper has really impressed at Norwich City keeping a clean sheet in 8 out of his 12 games. The deal means that Forster is now eligible for Norwich in future FA Cup ties with a 2nd round tie coming up against Carlisle on the 28th November

Norwich manager Paul Lambert said : “I think Fraser has done phenomenally for us and he’s got an understanding with the back four and is performing really well.

He said: “You need a presence and some of the saves I see him make, even in training, I think how has he got there?

“He’s only 21 years of age and goalkeepers can play for a lengthy time in their career. He’s done great.

““We have no chance of keeping him, the hopes they have got for him,” said Lambert. (more…)
