Danny Simpson – She said he said “They’re not renewing my contract”

Danny Simpson.
Simpson: Alot on his mind at the moment.
Whilst we don’t usually get involved with tabloid WAG tittle tattle here on NUFC Blog, an interesting tit-bit has come to my attention in the ongoing tabloid drama between Danny Simpson, his old flame Stephanie, and his new flame, that Tulisa woman from that awful “N-Dubz”, and also that awful “X-Factor” thing.

According to the Stun, Stephanie (25) spoke on the Toon right back’s reaction when he found out the she was pregnant with the couple’s second child, sobbing:

“I found out I was pregnant a fortnight ago and he wasn’t very happy.”

Then, in news which may be of more interest to Newcastle United fans, she continued, claiming that the frisky full back said:

“I haven’t got a club — they’re not renewing my contract in May — how are we going to afford another baby?”

Then adding: (more…)

Are Newcastle prepared to let Colo and/or Simpson go?

Coloccini in contract negotiations with Newcastle United.
No new deal for Coloccini yet
Newcastle United have been trying to negotiate new contracts with Danny Simpson and Fabricio Coloccini, so far without any success. We’ve seen before that the club is prepared to let players go if they demand what the club thinks is ‘too much’, so what does the future hold for this pair?

It seems like the contracts of Coloccini and Simpson have been ‘outstanding’ for ages and new attempts to get both players to sign new contracts this week have apparently failed. Nevertheless, Alan Pardew is upbeat about the negotiations and said:

We’ve had conversations. I can see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel now. I can understand why fans are concerned, but we’re making progress.

It’s not easy, contracts, and we’re trying to do what’s best for the football club and what’s best for the player. Sometimes, they are worlds apart.

There’s been a bit of antagonism with contracts in the past. There’s a lot more communication here and I think we’re trying to work through the process in a sensible manner.

The press have suggested that Danny Simpson has turned down a £25,000/week 5-year deal and, although he still has 18 months left on his contract, there have been rumours in the past that he might favour a move away from Newcastle (and the higher salary that might bring him). (more…)

Toon to get attacking boost amidst defensive woes?

Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson nears full fitness.
Nearing full fitness
Newcastle United centre-back Mike Williamson nears fitness and, whilst an alleged bid for a West Ham defender fails, it seems that Modibo Maiga is actually heading to Tyneside.

With our central defence currently emptier than a Mackem’s head, there’s some welcome news that Mike Williamson managed 45 minutes for the reserve team against Bolton yesterday and apparently feels okay after it. Williamson said:

I feel completely fine. That was the plan today – to play 45, to get myself back in and try and get the cobwebs out and then train on Thursday and Friday.

It reminded me of what I’ve been missing. It was good and I enjoyed it. It was great to get the boots back on and now that I’m back, hopefully I can just get fitter.

Injuries are frustrating but it’s just part and parcel of football. It has been really good to see the team doing so well and enjoying the plaudits that they deserve for working so hard.

I’ll accelerate it as quickly as possible, but not to the detriment of anything. But my knee and ankle are completely fine now, so it’s just about getting the minutes under my belt. And I’ll try to get as much fitness and running as I can.

I still doubt he’ll be fit enough to play in the Swansea game though.

Club toughens stance on Simmo contract

Newcastle United's contract negotiations with Danny Simpson appear to have reached an impasse.
Take it or leave it stage?
Comments from Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew appear to indicate that Danny Simpson is now at the ‘take or leave it’ stage in contract negotiations.

Further to my article a few days ago in which I mentioned the contract situation with Danny Simpson, it seems the club is toughening its stance a bit more if Pardew’s latest comments are anything to go by.

Pardew said:

It will be as dangerous for Danny as it is for us to delay any longer.

He is a player who within 18 months has broken into the first team and established himself. We are a big club and he has done very well.

Now we have a situation where he has a contract and feels he should be rewarded with a new one. I agree with that. I believe that really all we’re talking about are the figures, but is very difficult at this level to say we think negotiations are at a particular point when he probably thinks they are somewhere else. Yanga-Mbiwa and Pieters eyed as Colo and Simpson replacements?

Latest Newcastle United target?
Yanga-Mbiwa alleged latest target
Newcastle United allegedly turn their interest towards a 22 year-old Montpellier defender while both Simpson and Coloccini are yet to sign new contracts.

The last flurry of transfer speculation about Newcastle was mainly about attackers and, in the interests of balance, the press have been hitting us with speculation about defenders – either new or current – over the last few days.

The Daily Mail and The Sun, for example, have us interested in Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, which is easy for them to say. He’s 22, plays for Montpellier and is a naturalised Frenchman originally from the Central African Republic, which is a place I really like on account of it being exactly where it says it is. A sort of geographical onomatopoeia.

Anyway, Yanga-Mbiwa started out as a right-back and has more recently played as a centre-back, which is the sort of versatility managers like. He’s been at Montpellier for his entire footballing career and has also notched up 8 appearances for France’s under-21 team. Arsenal were linked with the player, who is contracted with Montpellier until June 2013, at the end of last season. (more…)
