The resumption of Premier League action after the International break see Newcastle United travelling to Birmingham’s Villa Park for this afternoon’s game against Aston Villa.
Previous results.
Newcastle United and Aston Villa come into this game at 12th and 13th in the Premier League respctively with 4 points to Newcastle United, and 3 to Aston Villa. Looking at their Premier League form so far this season, Aston Villa got off to an excellent start, convincingly beating Arsenal 3-1. However, this was followed by two successive defeats, 2-1 to Chelsea and 0-1 to Liverpool. Meanwhile, as you probably know, Newcastle’s results have been getting steadily better. After a 4-0 mauling by Manchester City in their opening game, this managed a 0-0 draw with West Ham, finally scraping 1-0 win against a toothless Fulham in their last game. (more…)

Hello, good evening and welcome to this latest “match banter” feature for this evening’s game between the Villans and the Magpies from Villa Park.
It easy to forget in the vicarious French shopping spree most Toon fans have been enjoying over the last week or so that Newcastle are still involved in a relegation dogfight. Though the good news is that Aston Villa are just as crap as we are, being one place and one point beneath us in the table.
However the bad news is that Reading were supposed to be crap too, and they beat us 1-2 at home after a dreadful blunder by our Silver Supremo. In that game, knowing that Cabaye was unlikely to last the whole match after coming back from an extended absence due to groin surgery, he took off Marveaux. Then minutes after the inevitable happened and Newcastle United, after being marginally on top in the game, were left desperately holding on with hardly creative influence in the side, evetually falling to 71st and 77th minute strikes from Reading super sub, Adam Le Fondre, who, with a name like that, sounds like he should have been playing for our team. Good afternoon Geordies and welcome to the match banter post for Newcastle United’s visit to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa.
Although the Magpies are flying high at fourth in the Premiership, with their best start in 15 years, manager, Alan Pardew is looking for an improvement in performance from the lads after a somewhat disappointing 0-0 draw with Queen’s Park Rangers on Monday evening. For a more extensive view of the upcoming game with team news, what the managers are saying and other stuff, please check out my match preview of the game.
As usual, if you have any good links for the game, please feel free to share them. Also as usual, I will endeavour to put up the full teamsheets for the match when they become available. (more…)
