Bassong: Leaving ASAP.Newcastle United Centre back, Sébastien Bassong has given an interview to the media about the reasons why he is deperate to leave Newcastle, saying:
“I have to leave – for the sake of my career!”
The 23 year old defender, linked with several Premier League teams, has now been relegated two years in a row, leaving relegated French Ligue 1 team, Metz to join the Magpies after impressing ex-Director of Football, Dennis Wise, and ex manager, Kevin Keegan in a trial for the club.
He has, of course, become a very popular player with fans since making his first appearence in a friendly against Doncaster, where Toon fans chanted “If number 46 (Bassong) scores, we’re all on the pitch!” He was also voted as Newcastle United’s “Player of the Year” by fans last season.
Bassong continued, saying:
“I have a lot of respect for Newcastle and the supporters – everybody knows that – but I want to play in the Premier League, and I think I deserve to play in the Premier League,”
“I would like to play in the Premier League with Newcastle but, for the moment, it’s not possible.(more…)
Shane Ferguson - One of many bright prospects.Winger, Shane Ferguson, the 17 year old Newcastle United prospect who can now boast of a full international cap for Northern Ireland despite his young age, today shared his thoughts on his new 3 year deal at the club. Ferguson was speaking in Newcastle while most of his teammates are in Ireland, working on pre-season training and the forthcoming match against Shamrock Rovers. Firstly, he tackled the lack of a full manager at present.
“Everything is still up in the air in regards a new manager and the possible new ownership, but I am only focusing on pre-season training”.
He then went on to talk about his chances for moving up in the Newcastle hierarchy of players, despite his caps at all levels with Northern Ireland, he is yet to figure in United’s first team. He said:
“I will be working hard and hoping to push my way into both the reserve and first teams.
“To be honest it was not a hard decision for me to stay at Newcastle because we are a big club.
“Although we were relegated to the Championship, I feel the younger players like myself may be given a chance because of it.”
He also had a few words to say about his fellow Irish teammate, Michael McCrudden, the versatile forward / winger who will also be staying at Newcastle. (more…)
