Enrique: Twitter storm.
Enrique: Twitter storm.
Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew has been highly critical of the club’s left back, Jose Enrique
after reporters revealed that a “tweet” stating that Jose wouldn’t be starting today’s game against Tottenham Hotspur on a Twitter site which allegedly belongs to the player.

When it was put to him by reporters that Enrique had published a ‘Tweet’ stating “we decide is better dont play.” Pardew said, without confirming whether the information was correct:

“Did he tweet it, did he?”

“Players can’t be giving that sort of information out.”

Pardew then added:

“It’s difficult to police … we need to make it as a club policy that it has to stop.”

When asked whether Enrique would be fit for Sunday’s match against West Ham, Pardew then replied:

“I’ll check his tweet.” (more…)

Four battles that must be won at The Emirates.

Tiote - Key to Newcastle this weekend?
Tiote - Key to Newcastle this weekend?
Let me introduce you to yet another nufcblog.org feature, well I hope it will become a feature anyway.

I’ve been thinking about the weekend trip to Arsenal, and just who Newcastle will need to try to keep quiet if we are to walk away from The Emirates with any points, or indeed if we are to walk away without being thumped, which against Arsenal is always a possibility.

So I thought of having an article that will highlight the key areas that I think Newcastle will need to control if we are to do well on Sunday lunch-time. This isn’t a match preview, that will come later on tonight, or perhaps tomorrow morning when I can get my grubby little hands on all the team-news. Instead this is a few key personal battles that I feel that the players in the black and white shirts will need to win if the odds, which are stacked against us anyway, are to be tipped in our favour. Newcastle full-back, Jose Enrique believes that the Tynesiders can compete in the Premier League, without spending millions of pounds on new talent.

With Chris Hughton’s future still undecided the United boss has, so far, had to work with a shoe-string budget compared to the days of old at Newcastle, and it appears that the days of record-breaking signings are over, for now anyway.

“We haven’t signed too many players or big name players. Look at Sunderland – they have spent a lot of money and we outclassed them 5-1,” Enrique told The Daily Telegraph. “Some teams spend money and will think they have more of a chance of staying up or getting a strong finish in the Premier League, but we have a good squad.”

“When new players come in and have been here for a month or so, it feels like two years because they are made so welcome. It’s a really important quality” (more…)

Carroll and Jose injured, but will it keep them out of Old Trafford opener?

Injury problems for Carroll?
Injury problems for Carroll?
Andy Carroll has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad for tomorrow nights match against Uzbekistan at Ashton Gate.

Carroll came off at half-time with a back injury in the match against Rangers at the weekend, and was closely followed by Jose Enrique who also suffered a some form of knock.

There is still a week to go until our opening game of the season, so a lot will depend on the seriousness of any injuries sustained before any panic buttons can start being pressed. They certainly didn’t look like major injuries to me though, but slight niggles can be deceptive, and we already know that Chris Hughton tends not to risk players who are carrying little niggles, unless it is absolutely necessary of course. Newcastle need defensive reinforcements.

The treatment at St James’ Park is already beginning to fill up, even before a ball has been kicked in the Premier League.

It is worrying that we seem to be losing players left, right and centre due to injury, but an additional concern is the amount of time that players will be out because of these injuries.

Take Danny Simpson as an example, he will miss the first month of the season through injury, and it looks like Steven Taylor will be joining him although that is yet to be confirmed. Tamas Kadar is another player who is fighting to be fit for the start of the season. Add all that together and it is becoming apparent that we are desperately short of players in certain positions for the new season. (more…)
