Enrique: Situation still as clear as mud!
Enrique: Situation still as clear as mud!
Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew has come out and denied any knowledge of a “done deal” that would make left back, Jose Enrique follow in the footsteps of Andy Carroll in a move to Liverpool FC.

Pardew told Tyneside newspaper, The Chronicle:

“There’s definitely no deal between the clubs – 100 per cent.

“He’s under contract here until next summer. And we hope to open talks on a new deal as soon as possible.

“That’s where we are.”

Pardew than concluded by saying:

“We want to keep our best players, and Jose’s one of them.

“As far as anything being a done deal, that’s not true. We want Jose to stay. Nothing’s changed.”

Though of course, he also said about Andy Carroll before his £35 million move to Liverpool in January: (more…)

Enrique to Liverpool "Done deal" says Phil Thompson.
Former Liverpool defender and assistant manager, Phil Thompson is claiming that Newcastle United left back, Jose Enrique, will become a Liverpool player at the end of the season.

Speaking to Norwegian TV channel, TV2, Thompson reported that a deal for the 25 year old is “a done deal”, saying:

“From what I’ve heard, yes the deal has been done and he will come to Liverpool.”

The nasally well endowed pundit and Liverpool insider continued:

“It’ll be interesting because he’s done very well. He had a difficult first season coming into the Premiership a couple of years ago but he really understands the game now.

“He’s one of those full backs who is good going forward but he’s also a good defender and I think that is the main thing.” (more…)

Enrique: Comments taken "out of context"
Enrique: Comments taken "out of context"
Newcastle United left back, Jose Enrique comments in a Spanish publication caused something of a storm in a teacup yesterday, when his comments in Spanish were translated to imply that he may be seeking a move to a bigger club in order to play in the Champion’s League.

The comments were translated as:

“It is flattering that Liverpool are interested.

“I’ve also heard that Manchester United and Aston Villa have asked about me.

Perhaps the most controversial part of the (mis)translated interview was quoted as:

“They are both big teams and I’m not closing the door on anyone. I’m ambitious and want to play in the Champions League.

“I want to win things. I’m OK at Newcastle but I aspire to more.”

However the player has come out in an interview on the club’s official website to say that the comments were taken completely out of context. Enrique explained: (more…)

Enrique likely to move on in the summer

Jose Enrique - like to move from Newcastle in the summer?
Wants to play Champion's League football
Newcastle United left back Jose Enrique gives a strong indication that he could be looking to transfer elsewhere in the summer.

Gossip and speculation can sometimes whip people up into a storm without anything of substance to back it up. Reading between the lines can often be a dangerous game too as, whilst the facts might be objective, what an individual reads into them is always subjective.

However, sometimes statements come out from players that leave little room for doubt as to their intentions, even if they do still require a subjective interpretation.

One such statement is from Jose Enrique as follows:

It is flattering that Liverpool are interested.

I’ve also heard that Manchester United and Aston Villa have asked about me.

They are both big teams and I’m not closing the door on anyone. I’m ambitious and want to play in the Champions League.

I want to win things. I’m OK at Newcastle but I aspire to more.(more…)

No way Jose! Enrique procrastinates while Liverpool ponders

Jose Enrique, Newcastle United
No contract until we're safe
Newcastle United left back Enrique procrastinates on contract while Liverpool allegedly think about a summer bid.

A couple of things are annoying me at the moment. The first is a rat that’s moved in under the decking at the bottom of my garden, which has horrified my wife. It has apparently done this because my wife puts bird food out and nobody told the rat that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. I thought about giving the blunderbuss to my personal concierge and asking him to rid me of the rodent, but then I realised I don’t have a blunderbuss. Or a personal concierge.

We stopped with the bird food but that doesn’t seem to have encouraged the rat to move out. Presumably he’s found something else to eat.

So, I called the council and they will indeed remove said rat for a fee but this in itself is a problem. When they say ‘remove’, I think they really mean ‘kill’ because I can’t imagine the council runs a sideline in re-homing errant rats. Now I’ll admit I don’t like the way this rat sits on the decking in broad daylight and gives me an arrogant look, but I’m soft and one thing I can’t abide is cruelty to animals, so I don’t want it killed.

So there’s a stand off. My wife’s telling me to get rid of that rat, I’m reluctant to have it killed, the rat’s giving me funny looks and I’m being sorely tried by the whole situation. (more…)
