Dan Gosling: Second time lucky?
Dan Gosling: Second time lucky?
Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew has revealed that injured midfielder, Dan Gosling will make a return to training in around three weeks, some time after Newcastle United’s game with Manchester United on 19th April.

A short cameo appearence against some vagrants from the wrong side of the North East apart, the 20 year old has been out for no less than year since he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in a game for his previous club, Everton. After playing in the Sunderland game for only a few minutes, his knee started giving him problems straight away and he had to have more surgery.

Speaking on his second return to the side, Pardew also remarked that he knows little about the player, and that despite having a good reputation with coaches at Newcastle and his previous club, he still has “a lot to prove yet” to him. The manager said of Gosling’s progress:

“He is recovering. He should be back in training after (the) Man United (game),”

He then added that he hadn’t seen that much of Gosling in action, saying:

“What can I say about him? I haven’t seen a lot of him yet. (more…)

Are some of Newcastle United’s injury problems self inflicted?

Ireland: One of several players rushed back too soon?
Ireland: One of several players rushed back too soon?
Newcastle United are currently having injury problems, and the journey to the end of our return season in the Premier League may be longer and harder than expected with key players out. Of course, injuries happen in football, some are unavoidable, however some are the inevitable consequence of poor training methods, including pushing players too far too soon. Has this been the case with Newcastle players such as Dan Gosling and Stephen Ireland?

Ireland, who was carrying a knee injury when signed on loan from Aston Villa was all set for his debut against Everton last Saturday, however a thigh strain picked up in training has ruled him out for another stretch, with the midfielder looking certain to also miss Newcastle’s next match against Stoke. Obviously, a thigh strain isn’t the same as a knee injury, however after such a long time on the sidelines, it’s a possibilty that the thigh strain was a result of the player being pushed too quickly after a fairly long spell out.

Speaking in a recent interview on the Ireland injury, Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew also conceeded that this was a possibilty, saying:

“We knew when we took him he was injured but this thigh strain, like anything when you’ve been out for a long time, you pick up these little injuries,” (more…)

Dan Gosling, Newcastle United
Possible return this season?
Newcastle United’s Dan Gosling looks like he might finally be making progress towards fitness.

We signed Dan Gosling on a 4 year contract from Everton in July 2010 but has so far only made a solitary substitute appearance for us against Sunderland back in January.

Gosling has been plagued by a knee injury he picked up while at Everton and the announcement of his return to fitness in January was premature.

Although he only played for a few minutes during the Sunderland game, the knee started giving him problems straight away and he had to have more surgery.

Gosling said:

The swelling never really went away, so I was constantly fighting an uphill battle really.

I was back and I felt good, but every day was the same that when I was training or playing it would get really stiff. The fluid on my knee kept coming back and it was preventing my thighs from working, so I was losing muscle all the time. (more…)

The 20 year old has been out for no less than nine months since he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in a game for his previous club, Everton. This happened in a collison with Wolves’ goalkeeper, Marcus Hahnemann.

Speaking on the length he has been out through injury, Gosling said:

Dan Gosling: “Yeah, I think it’s about nine months now and it’s been a long time coming.

“I feel like I’ve been at the club for a while but have only played five minutes so far.”

Though Gosling played 5 minutes in injury time against the Mackems, he has also played two further games since coming back. The first being a 70 minute spell in a behind closed doors game with Hibs, and the second in a reserves fixture against Wigan.

Gosling continued:

“But I’m feeling better in myself and I’m getting close to full fitness now, and hopefully will have many more minutes on the pitch soon.” (more…)

Shola: Fully fit for return on Sunday.
As Newcastle prepare for Sunday’s derby against Sunderland, Magpie’s manager, Alan Pardew, has reassured fans that Mackem nemesis, Shola Ameobi, along with winger, Jonas Gutierrez, left back, Jose Enrique and centre back, Steven Taylor, will all be fully fit for the game.

Shola has been sidelined with an ankle injury for the last two games while Gutierrez, Enrique and Taylor all missed the previous game against Stevenage. Vintage centre back, Sol Campbell, should also be fully recovered from a virus and available for selection.

Pardew told local newspaper, The Journal:
