Pardew: No more anarchy at Benton.Alan Pardew has informed us that the lack of discipline that crept in under previous managers such as Chris Hughton and Alan Shearer will no longer be tolerated at the club.
Speaking in a rare interview, the tough talking, no nonsense supremo called time on the anarchy in and around the club’s Benton training ground.
On the lack of discipline when he arrived at the club he remarked:
“Just in and around the training ground it was a little bit loose.
“You know, a big club like Newcastle, I think it’s important that you have disciplines that carry on through the season, and obviously coming in mid way through the season I didn’t really put them in force so, and I think we’ve all had the benefits of that and the discipline in the training ground, and around it, has been terrific.”
I couldn’t really make much sense of the latter part of that as it seemed a little contradictory, though perhaps if any readers could enlighten me? (more…)
Ranger prepares to shootAs a striker, young Nile Ranger hasn’t been the best at hitting the target so on that logic I think this is a story that has been blown way out of proportion. When he shoots, he often misses, gaining him the appropriately affectionate nickname of “Nil Ranger”.
Jokes aside, the above is a new picture leaked to the Sun who of course paint Nile Ranger as a hitman for the Wallsend Mafia.
NEWCASTLE United star Nile Ranger was quizzed by club officials yesterday after he posed “like a gangster” with a GUN.
Pardon me if this post is a little messy in places; it’s difficult to organise your thoughts when you’re in fits of laughter.
If you manage to read beyond the above quote without any kind of fluid pouring out of your nose, you’ll find out that it is in fact a replica firearm that was being carried about for whatever reason, presumably in public.
What’s missing from the article is that Nile was at his girlfriends house and they had a few friends over and one of the silly Southerners pulled out the replica gun and everybody decided that they wanted to hold the magical chrome plated object. Of course the gun came to Nile, whose girlfriend is aroused by men with guns and she took a picture. (more…)
Must avoid another card this seasonNewcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote goes into the record books, although it only gives Alan Pardew a headache.
It seems that Cheik Tiote’s yellow card for tripping Matt Derbyshire on Saturday has gained him a Premier League record. He joins Robbie Savage and Mark Hughes on 14 bookings for the season, which is apparently the record.
Were the McWhirter brothers still alive they’d no doubt be handing him some sort of trophy and John Noakes would pin a Blue Peter badge on him whilst slipping in elephant poo and shouting “get down Shep”.
As records go though, it’s probably one he could do without, particularly as it means another booking before the end of the season would mean he’d miss the first three games of next season.
This has all got Alan Pardew reaching for the aspirin because he now doesn’t know whether or not to risk the player against Chelsea next weekend:
“I will have to consider it. He would miss three games at the beginning of next season and he is very important to the team,” said Pardew. (more…)
Tiote: “Overzealous” says Pardew. On the eve of Newcastle United’s game with Manchester United on Tuesday evening, manager, Alan Pardew has issued a public warning to midfielder, Cheick Tiote, that he must not be “overzealous” against the so called ‘Red Devils’.
Tiote does indeed have a somewhat poor disciplinary record having picked up some 10 yellow cards, and a red in the FA Cup game against Stevenage since he joined the club on 26th August last year.
Speaking in an interview, Pardew began by noting that he had missed the Ivory Coast’s ‘Lion King’ for no less than five games through suspension, two games for picking up ten yellow cards in a season, and three for a straight sending off. He said:
“I haven’t had that many Premier League games but he has missed five of them, and that can’t be right,” then adding:
Tiote: Out for Mackems, 'Spurs and Fulham. The F.A. anouunced today that Newcastle’s United’s appeal on behalf of the club’s defensive midfielder, Cheik Tiote, has been rejected, and that a ban for Newcastle’s next three games stands.
This means that the Ivory Coast player, who has rapidly become part of the essential fabric of the club’s first team as defensive cover for the back four will miss fixtures against the Mackems, Tottenham and Fulham.
The player was shown the red card in United’s defeat in the F.A. Cup against Stevenage on Saturday, 8 January. It was for what the referee, Andre Marriner, saw as a wreckless tackle on Stevenage’s John Ashton, where he felt that Tiote was out of control and had his studs showing, though he never really touched the player.
