An old photo of the current signs.I have stayed pretty quiet with regard to these new advertising boards we could possibly end up with outside St James’ Park, until now.
There seems to be a movement that is dead set against them, which is fine as everyone has their own opinion and that, but I honestly don’t see what all the fuss is about.
The NUST, True Faith and a number of other sites are gearing up their own various bits and bobs to raise objections to it, including giving everyone the link so thay can make an objection to the planning application themselves. The theory being that the more people that object to the planning proposal, then the greater the chance of the proposals being rejected. In the interests of balance, you can e-mail any objections you may have to planning.control@newcastle.gov.uk. (more…)
Between a rock and a hard place...It’s not really a new story, but it is doing the rounds again so is perhaps worth a second look, although some of it doesn’t make for positive reading.
A new table has been revealed showing the value of sponsorship deals from each club in the Premier League. The revenue streams from shirt sponsorship at all clubs has increased, apart from at two clubs. On the plus side, revenue has dropped at Sunderland, despite them believeing that they are a big club. On the downside, our revenue has also dropped.
To be fair, part of the drop in revenue can be attributed to factors beyond the control of our football club. The credit crunch bit hard, and it bit Northern Rock particularly hard, meaning that any sponsor deal with them was never going to be as extravagant as it was previously. Add a relegation onto that, with the drop in exposure that goes hand in hand with that, and it is clear to see why the money we are being given to carry a name on our shirt has pratically halved. 'Fantastic'? St James Park.I’m not talking about this season, although life has been largely fantastic at St James’ Park which now boasts the only unbeaten home record in the football league. I’m talking more on the grander scheme of things, and the news today is that Newcastle United are ‘proud’ to announce a new sponsorship deal with a company called Fantastic Telecoms. Never heard of them? No, neither have I, however they are now the clubs “official telecoms partner”.
On the face of it, it doesn’t sound that bad. But when I read more into it, some alarm bells started ringing. Perhaps i’m reading too much into it? Perhaps the whole renaming debacle of a few months ago that touched a nerve with me has left me with some doubt as to just what the implications of this deal are?
Fantastic Telecom are part of the much larger MDS telecoms group, the deal will offer Newcastle United fans phone and broadband packages in a more cost effective way for the consumer. As an added sweetener, 10% of all subscriptions will be donated back to the club to invest in the youth setup. (more…)
