Can we go through this evening?Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle. Date: Thursday, 22nd November. Kick off: 8:05pm Referee: Danny Makkelie (Holland). UK TV: ESPN.
Hello, good evening and welcome to our “match banter” feture for this evening’s Europa League game against the Madeirans of C.S. Maritmo.
With Newcastle United topping Group D with eight points, a win this evening would definitely see us through into the next round, However, if second placed Bordeaux with seven points win too, we would have to take it to the last game to find out who will top the group in the final reckoning, which could affect the strength of opposition we face in the next round.
On the other side, Maritimo, bottom of the group with only two points are just hanging on by the skin of their teeth now, and meed to go all out for two wins in their final two group games to stand any chance, so it would be no surprise if the Portuguese Men-o-War come out on the attack, as merely playing for a draw will get them nowhere now. However, for some in depth background to this evening’s game, may I suggest you check out my extensive match preview, which should tell you everything you need to know about this evening’s oppostion, and if that isn’t enough, you can also find some further background to the game in the previous pieces I wrote for our two legged battle here and here, which should be more than enough for anybody! Our last game at their place.Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle. Date: Thursday, 22nd November. Kick off: 8:05pm Referee: Danny Makkelie (Holland). UK TV: ESPN.
This will be our penultimate game in Europa League group stage, with Newcastle United facing their second (away) leg against Bordeaux for the final game after this one.
As things stand, the Magpies lead the group with eight points and a win should see us safely through to the next stage. However the Magpies only lead second placed Bordeaux by only one point. Hence the big question should be whether we finish first or second on our group, which will probably have a bearing on the strength of the opposition we would face in the next round. Meanwhile, this evening’s opponent’s chances are now hanging by a thread as they are currently bottom with only two points. This means that so far, things are going as they might have been predicted from the start, with Newcastle United being narrow favourites over Bordeaux, with Brugge being seen as the slightly stronger of the two underdogs. Speaking as a Newcastle United fan, I sincerely hope the Belgians go out after their disgraceful treatment of travelling Toon fans in the second away leg at their place. But I digress… (more…)

Apologies for the quality so far, but as usual I will update them with some better ones when they come along. In the mean time, there are some MUCH better highlights from ESPN here.
A win should see us through to the next stage.Venue: Jan Breydel Stadium, Bruges. Date: Thursday, 8th November. Kick off: 6:00pm Referee: L. Banti. UK TV: ESPN.
Hello and welcome to our “march banter” feature for this evening’s game, the second leg of our Group D contest against Club Brugge.
This evening Newcastle United meet a Club Brugge side who are in turmoil, having sacked the manager who faced us in our previous game two weeks ago after he lost his fifth game on a row, taking the side from top of the Belgian League down to eighth, which is right in the middle of the table as there are only 16 teams.
The Magpies are already looking fairly strong at the top of our table with seven points from our first three games, and a victory this evening should see us through to the next round at least as one of the top two in our group. On the other hand however, Alan Pardew will not have had a chance to see any Club Brugge games under their new caretaker coach, Philippe Clement, as they haven’t played any yet! So, they could be a “surprise package”. However, for a more in depth background to the game this evening, you could always check out my previous match preview which will keep you abreast of all the team news, along with lots of other stuff too.
